I guess we should remove it. I didn't notice it either!  :)

General Discussion / Re: Supply
« on: May 13, 2016, 02:25:52 pm »
Where can I get good info and a chart of the supply of bitshares over time? Coinmarketcap lists the current supply but I can't see a chart.
Great question. We could use better data on this, as the Cryptofresh pages are a bit confusing to newcomers.

Note: Coinmarketcap is showing more supply than currently exists. There's a 2-year vesting taking place that ends in November, and after it's complete, then the supply will match CMC. Basically, in November of 2014, the supply was expanded from 2B to 2.5B, vesting over two years to certain people (not me, haha). The CMC total was immediately increased to 2.5B to make the total market cap look more attractive, and BTS has been playing catch-up ever since.

As for supply going forward, it is basically this:

  • increases by worker pay
  • increases by witness pay
  • decreases by fees paid (20% of all fees are burned)

The decrease in the Reserve Fund at http://cryptofresh.com/reserve is the amount that the supply is increasing.

We really could use an explainer video on this topic. I might put forward a worker proposal...  :)

General Discussion / Re: Graphene GUI testing and feedback

Trollbox header warns: "Message frequency is limited to one per 2 seconds." It's better to have a smaller header, and remove it. Instead, show this message if a user tries to send messages above the frequency limit.

The purpose of a forced settlement offset is not to protect any party specifically. The purpose is to maintain the stable and accurate price of the smartcoin, which in turn benefits all users of the system.

So, the best metric is this: how has the trading price of BitCNY compared to the price feed, over the last months? Can we overlay the price feed to the historic price and take a look ourselves? I don't see the price feed in a graph here: http://cryptofresh.com/a/CNY

Technical Support / Rate-limited free transactions status?
« on: May 12, 2016, 03:09:58 am »
What's the status of rate-limited free transactions on BTS mainnet? See https://github.com/cryptonomex/graphene/issues/603. It's a bit difficult to tell from the Github issue if this is now on the main chain.

The fee schedules at https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/explorer/fees and http://cryptofresh.com/fees don't mention the feature, so it would seem that it might not be active.

If this is active, are the specific coin-age requirements documented anywhere?

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Cryptofresh worker report questions
« on: May 11, 2016, 11:29:32 pm »
Why is the daily budget 313.9k, when other sources state that the blockchain can spend 432k? For example: https://bitshares.org/technology/stakeholder-approved-project-funding/

Stakeholder Proposals / Cryptofresh worker report questions
« on: May 11, 2016, 09:15:24 pm »
Quick question: What do the bits of green on the left of each Supporting Stake bar mean? Is that the amount of support that can be lost without the worker becoming unfunded?

Another, trickier question: Why is Funding Percentage at 42% for the refund400k worker, considering that the sum of the daily pay of the workers above it does not total 58% of 400k BTS? I was under the impression that this meant that 42% of 400k is the daily total refunded.

Stakeholder Proposals / Witness pay per block calculations
« on: May 11, 2016, 03:03:01 pm »
The network is currently configured for 1.5 BTS to be created per block. With the current network state of 25 witnesses and 3-second blocks, that gives 1.5 BTS every 75 seconds per witness, or about 51840 BTS of income per month to act as a witness.

Is this the correct approach to calculation? An interesting side-effect is that adding a witness will keep network costs the same, while diluting the individual pay for each witness.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Committee documentation
« on: May 11, 2016, 02:29:43 pm »
So, correct me if I'm wrong on any of this:

* Any user, on committee or not, can propose a committee-required transaction, such as fee update
* That transaction is added to the blockchain and expires when the transaction creator specifies
* If a majority of committee members approve it, it takes effect after the review period (which starts immediately?), currently 1 hour
* If shareholders don't like it, they must vote out yes-voting committee members within that review period
* The loss of committee majority stops the proposal immediately (can it regain majority, or is it then expired?)
* The committee can never drop below 11 members (this could cause a problem for stopping a proposal?)

Is there anything important that I missed? Thanks!

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Committee documentation

Good answers, thanks. Is any of this in a documentation page that I missed?

Also, I recall a two-week parameter when BTS 2.0 was first being presented. Is that no longer in effect?

Stakeholder Proposals / Committee documentation
« on: May 11, 2016, 01:44:34 pm »
The documentation at http://docs.bitshares.eu/bitshares/user/committee.html has a few tutorials for specific activities, but it's incomplete. Do we have documentation about questions like the following?

  • Can a proposal be vetoed by anther committee member?
  • To go into effect, does a proposal need approval by a majority of the committee?
  • Can the two-week proposal delay be modified by the committee?
  • Where can the list of active proposals be reviewed?

In common financial logic the collateral should not be force settled without any compensation if the collateral price does not fall below the margin call price.
@bitcrab What do you think about a collateral offset of 0.1% instead of 0% or 1%? If the feed is accurate, that still results in guaranteed profit for the shorter.

Thanks for the info! It would be interesting to see this graphed over time.

Technical Support / Re: Total number of witnesses
« on: May 10, 2016, 09:23:33 pm »
When voting you not only vote for individual witnesses but also for the number of active witnesses. I think you cannot vote for a higher number than you have votes for individuals.
Can you vote for a lower number than you have votes for individuals? I don't see this mechanism in the light wallet UI.

Technical Support / Total number of witnesses
« on: May 10, 2016, 09:07:21 pm »
I see from http://cryptofresh.com/witnesses that we currently have 27 active witnesses, with the rest on standby. How is this number determined, and what can move the threshold between active and standby?
