General Discussion / Re: QORA
« on: March 25, 2015, 07:54:30 pm »
Sounds interesting but if it's so great then why did the original developer leave his own baby?

EDIT: To answer my own question:

"I do not want to abandon this project but at the moment I simply have no choice.

My social and professional life have been damaged too much and I need to recover this while I still can.

Hopefully I can come back soon to continue the development of this project.

Why compete and re-invent the wheel? See if lawnmower.io will also offer BitUSD functionality. I'd certainly use it for BitUSD so that's two customers already!

It's certainly character strengthening, we've been in a painfully long cryptocurrency bear market now in general but I guarantee if I start shorting, that's when things will reverse.

not quite sure why this is worth a  +5%orgasm...  Basically all thats being said is that there are still people working on bitshares.  Big deal, thats what they should be doing.

Some ETA's would be nice to have... is this stuff all a pipe dream, or is there an actual target date to aim for?

https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/milestones
ETAs are:
0.9.0 = March 25.
0.10.0 = April 1
0.11.0 = April 8
come on
Do not believe this schedule,they can change it anytime.

Yea, it's more frustrating than anything to watch the milestones. All they ever do is get pushed back, past due, pushed back, past due, rinse and repeat. Some realistic ETA's would be nice.

Software development can be extremely difficult to estimate.  I work in the industry and know first hand that sometimes the most trivial items take *much* longer to troubleshoot than items thought to be huge undertakings, sometimes one item may require another item to be re-worked in order to achieve maximum efficiency, etc.  Sure, milestones can be changed or pushed back at anytime and I understand that could be frustrating but it's frustrating for the devs too and it's better to extend a deadline than implement an unstable version.  As far as the devs are concerned, the milestones listed are probably *very* realistic but sometimes shit happens and you have to roll with it.

General Discussion / Re: BitUSD / USD peg broken, why ?
« on: March 24, 2015, 06:33:12 pm »
Peg isn't broken, feed price at this time of posting is 1/0.006127 = 163.2 BTS/USD and there is ~15k for sale at that price on the internal exchange (nothing for sale below). There was just a hardfork to fix a shorting issue so I imagine we just need to wait for these services to update their version.

Oh man this version is awesome, so so smooth! Nice work :)

OSX Yosemite with 8GB ram.

When was the involuntary 0.1BTS receive fee decided on? I think this should be re-thought because at the moment. there's nothing stopping a rich twisted person from setting their transaction fee to 0.1 and sending <0.1 payments to people thus reducing their balance overall.

I heard Bitstamp are looking at implementing a Bitshares gateway but I don't believe it  :P

General Discussion / Re: Nearing Bottom
« on: March 24, 2015, 06:09:30 pm »
should be a medium term bottom here.

I agree, its likely. I just bought some BTS for the first time since bter went down.

But I think it will be a long slow sideways period before we go up much again.

I hope so, i want to accumulate some more.

Just buy some each week. Don't worry about entry price, drive yourself crazy.

Figure out how much you can invest, divide it by a year or two and DCA away.

I'm buying again now (first time since Bter went down), can't believe how low BTS has gone though

Giving it a try, I like that you support higher volumes than metaexchange and the rate seems competitive. So happy to finally have ways of getting into BTS without trusting altcoin exchanges! Shapeshift.io rate is awful.

Update: Worked perfectly! Can't wait for BTC/Silver pair to be added :)

I'm excited for peertracks!

Any idea if there are plans to change the logo? Oh and on peertracks.com none of the contact links work

We're closer than ever to v1, we have a web wallet, a lightwallet, better marketing team, cleaner website, other promising projects like moonstone coming along. Forget the price, the market is clearly being irrational - those who understand Bitshares and its potential are quietly accumulating. Yes my Bitshares are making a "loss" but I believe in this projects success which is why I see it as an all or nothing scenario to be in.

General Discussion / Re: [Rough Idea] Introduce 5% delegate rotation
« on: March 17, 2015, 09:38:30 pm »
I like this idea although perhaps not as many as 1000 - I gave up updating my delegate but will continue to do so as soon as I approach the 101 or am able to sign any blocks. So yeah, it's certainly motivation to keep the standby delegates up to date!

General Discussion / Re: Are people really this ignorant of BitUSD?
« on: March 16, 2015, 09:50:07 pm »
One obvious useful task to put PR/marketing to, would be to contact all those central to blockchain tech development and suggest where BitShares is up to. Those people should be easy to find.. core devs of all the key projects etc. That would need to be done in a careful way that is not at all critical of others but a simple statement to pique their interest and perhaps also note a standing opportunity to work with BitShares, where that can be useful to all sides - perhaps there are devs with time to spare who might get drawn in. Such a statement could then be technical beyond the normal blurb. There must be devs out there looking for opportunities. Blatant selling re delegates perhaps would not go down well but a friendly handshake might work. Perhaps marketing can resolve the mailing list and bytemaster could be writing then to Sunny et al.

I expect there must be certain elements of many projects that could be made easier pooling experience, network stability might be one. Perhaps that's already happening behind the scenes but having seen other Bitcoin devs talk at the London conference, as if they are ignorant of BitShares, there might be a easy win to be had there educating them about BitShares.

One concern is the very blatant attempts at marketing by Bitshares users though - it just triggers people to shun it and call them shills.

« on: March 16, 2015, 09:35:28 pm »
Yes, they are really all this ignorant of bitUSD.

If we get some big buy/sell walls out there like Cryptohedge was working on before the bter implosion, then we can get mentioned alongside Nubits as well.

Bitcoin has a much larger network effect for now, and the bitcoiners just ignore everything else.  We have to wake them up. :)

It'll happen naturally eventually - we just need to focus on the product and the adoption will follow! I used to be an avid Bitcoiner but have since been converted.
When Bitcoiners realise that they already have a decentralised exchange and come to terms with market pegs and gateways, Bitshares will become a very popular platform.
