ANNOUNCEMENT 10 - BitShares 2.0 Pitchfork Date is October 13, 2015
The foreshadowing began back on April 6th with this subtle hint:

The final hint came just minutes ago when Bytemaster spilled the beans, um, I mean, actually announced something ahead of schedule for a change -- here:
2 days left now. How are you guys feeling about the testnet? On track for friday?
I believe that the test network has proven robust enough to replace the BTS 1.0 network in 30 days.
We have some graceful fallback positions that can be taken without missing the upgrade deadline:
1. If all witnesses are on a single node then the network works perfectly, even with 1 second blocks
2. Have several different witnesses all run from the same Amazon or Digital Ocean location
3. Have all witnesses use a dedicated server to relay messages through while being geographically diverse
4. Have all witnesses use current P2P and reduce block times to 5 seconds
In any event we are confident in the market behavior and evaluation of transactions and see no reason to delay upgrading the protocol simply because of networking/communication issues.
On the user interface side we have a viable wallet that supports:
1. market operations
2. transfers
3. voting
4. backups
Over the course of the next 30 days we will continue to refine the user interface, but at the very least it should be better than BTS 1 long before 30 days is up.
In other words, I am feeling pretty good about having the upgrade date be: Tuesday, October 13th (middle of work week)
So, yes, it's true.
And as an added bonus, you all get a super deluxe 34-day countdown at no extra charge.

Been away.....what a thing to come back to!! I was honestly ready and happy for next April. Thank you and well done on what must have been a monumental effort. I can hear the distinct hum of an immensely powerful, drawn bow. When this arrow flies, it goes straight and true all the way to its mark.
Bitshares alone offers nothing. We should never forget that it is the commitment of the community, the trust and belief of our partners and the alliance between integrity and usefulness that makes BItshares a possibility.
Whatever the future challenges, they can and will be overcome.

Depends upon your internet connection. There is almost no disk access and everything is in memory so it is blazing fast. There have been several million transactions on the test network and the test network has simulated 11 years of maintenance intervals at this point and can still be reindexed in under 5 minutes. I would guess that once the real BTS chain is out processing less than 1 transaction per second on average (based upon current rates) that your old PC will take no more than 10 minutes to sync for a very long time.

This is very welcomed news. Especially since the vast majority of us will soon use a web wallet and only a very small number (mostly just witnesses, delegates and devs?) will need to run a full client. In that context, 5 minutes seems almost trivial. Good stuff!

Are you going to send email tomorrow (when it's 30 days to launch) to everybody that has signed up at bitshares.org? It would be really good to let people know that 2.0 is finally coming – not everybody is reading this forum or the blog.
I think the blog post regarding what's coming with 2.0 (https://bitshares.org/blog/2015/09/11/BitShares-2.0-Launching-on-October-13th/) is a good text to send everybody. It tells what new is included (confidential & stealth transactions) and what is postponed (bond market) and what works but is still under development (tx processing speed). It would be good to let everybody know what is expected when launch happens so they don't have to complain about "tx speed isn't what was promised, devs lied to us!" etc.
Maybe also include some info about what to do when the launch comes (not much, as far as I have understood, just make sure that you have exported your private keys so you can import them on the new system?).

karnal - I am not so sure what on 'blockchain level' means when used by xeroc. I will not be assuming it means you can access any meaningful command through the CLI . When BM uses "it is supported on blockchain level" it means:
Blockchain interpretor after receiving/reading such transaction: "What the hell is this? Am I supposed to do something and what? Hmm... I do not see anything violating any rules, so will just collect the fee and do nothing"
xeroc - do you have any actual knowledge, or are you basing it on the fact it was not mentioned as something that will not be implemented from the very begining, like the bond market?

@tonyk I have definitely seen CLI calls that relate to blinded transactions .. not sure about titan ..
Anyway .. blockchain support means that all that is nees is already there and making it accesible does not require a hardfork of the blockchain .. kust some "exposing the right features to the customer/GUI" ..

I also think it is a typo but this needs to be fixed asap.
1. It is not professional
2. It might end up in some speculation trading. People withdraw their BTS from exchanges every Monday and resume trading in exchanges every Wednesday and the result is some crazy volatility for no reason

I may be in the minority here but I don't really see a problem with the quoted text. Snapshot date has been announced as October 13th. That is a Tuesday. So the snapshot will be on a Tuesday. If that was the only sentence in the announcement I could see how it would be confusing. I don't think the full date needs to be in every sentence.

I agree. I sure hope Bts marketing improves with the referral system! It has been painful thus far, and this announcement does not sound as exciting as it should (to the average reader).

I agree. I sure hope Bts marketing improves with the referral system! It has been painful thus far, and this announcement does not sound as exciting as it should (to the average reader).

Am I wrong, or Is this a grammatical error in the first sentence? This article reads like Bts is on it's heals trying to explain it'self, when it should read like it's about to launch an evolutionary leap in technology (i.e. Truth!)... Can someone who is a good writer re-write or edit this post? All of the Press Releases so far have been great, but this one is not public-friendly. Sorry guys, I'm not a good writer, all I can do here is raise a red flag.

So after that time people can dump and their BTS will still get into graphene, like it happened to PTS. Curious to see what happens

1) The Devs haven't yet approached exchanges trading bts to clarify the transition
2) We don't know if BTS2 will be actually traded on exchanges
3) We don't know if exchanges and which exchanges will honor the upgrade
4) Now we have a question about the launch date?
suddenly $13 mil of bts market cap starts to look very expensive..lol..
we need to start acting more professionally. Don't expect people to get on board with bts2 if they are completely burned with bts1 due to manipulation of pre bts2 price and if bts market cap is at these levels pre snapshot how high do you expect this to be after launch? And I mean real value of market cap and manipulated pumps to attract some attention..

My guess would be that you are just in a bad mood and maybe depressed because of recent manipulations. That or you are trying to FUD (which I doubt)

You are right xeroc I am sorry...I am just in a bad move today because I get pissed off when i see the price plummeting like that for no reason...
But some answers to the below questions are needed though..People and exchanges do not know what to do with the transition and what they should do with bts 1 and this creates unnecessary risk to the whole project.

How do you know that the exchanges don't know what to do? Are you in contact with them? And just because price falls doesn't mean it's manipulation...

we haven't seen any official announcement from any exchange that will honor the upgrade or what it will do in terms of trading bts1 bts2 or both..
in the past there were always announcements from the exchanges that they will honor the snapshot or not. This is the first time. So I guess that no one from the devs has contacted them officially. This is something that I not any other member can do I think.The devs have to do it. I cannot contact an exchange and tell them how to upgrade and what they should do if things are not ready yet..Devs do these things..

As far as we know, after the update all coins on our balances are automatically swapped, the old blockchain is supposed to halt and no transaction will happen on the old BTS network.
We still haven't heard from the BTS developer if there is anything particular to this update but we are ready to do whatever we must to perform this update as smoothly as possible.

That was their answer today...
The problem is that the transactions are not guaranteed to stop on bts1.0 as they think...
Even if a minority of delegates continue to produce blocks(some standbys for example) , we will see transactions happen....
version 0.9.3c will stop delegates with this version... but poloniex wallet even with low participation will continue to work,not?... is the client 0.9.3c stopping transactions for all accounts or they stop only 0.9.3 delgates?....
if so, can you release a version 0.9.4 that holds all transactions on the snapshot day? So if all exchanges are running this version it will practically kill bts1.0 ... thoughts?
