Ether claims they can now support enough transactions to compete with Visa. If that claim is correct then the transaction per second advantage that Bitshares had is also gone.

proof?
raiden...

Raiden is a crutch, which sort of  supports not very stable structure. It does not really solve a scalability problem. It moves a bunch of transactions off chain, because ethereum blockchain is too slow to handle them all. Bitshares DEX does not need such a crutch, and this is a big advantage.

Ethereum is definitely progressing, but DEX based on ether still sucks, because current progress is not enough to make them usable. So far, bitshares DEX is still the most advanced, but this can change fast.

veryone who has a HERO margin position is doing just that. holding a position guaranteed to lose 5% a year.

So what? What is hero liquidity?

Setting positive/negative interest rate on MPA and UIA would be a nice feature, which could have some use cases, but don't think that negative interest would certainly solve the liquidity problem.

I have to be honest, I'm struggling to understand why anyone would want to create USD with negative interest if they barely want to create it with no interest. Where's the incentive?

Incentive for those who create USD would be ... the negative interest (your debt is decreasing with time). Not much of incentive to buy such asset though.

Oh ok right. So what is the incentive to hold USD - You basically want to create and dump it.

You always create and dump it. There is no point to create and hold it. But in case of negative interest you would have a hard time to find a buyer.

You didn't fix it, you suggested an alternative. lower collateral requirements might incentivise shorters but it would make BitUSD less safe.

Less safe, but probably still safe enough to not worry. It all depends on details of implementation. Who said that safety threshold is at MCR=1.75? Why not 1.5? Still far above 1.

The best way to encourage people to borrow MPAs into existence and spend them would be a financial incentive.

AKA High Leverage

Fixed this for you. If you want to incetivise shorters, give them leverage by reducing collateral requirement. After black swan recovery is implemented, this should not be too risky.

General Discussion / Re: will atomic swap make bitshares useless ?
« on: October 17, 2017, 10:49:20 pm »

That's why I made the above proposal, to allow the direct change BTC BitBTC in the DEX, without Gateway.

Byteball has a similar scheme implemented in a very elegant way using a chat bot and bitcoin oracle. I wonder how difficult it would be to plagiarize this into bitshares?

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Compliance Work

I would like to see a worker (or third party business), which will help me to file my tax form (for a fee of course).

At last, a sane account overview page. Good job!

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion

So, I'm a big believer in the bitshares network, and a lifetime member account.

That said, what happens if the bitshares price completely tanks.  Can the network continue to function?  Will the network continue to function?

Network functions are easily adjusted to BTS price (i.e. fees, margin call price etc).

Very interesting. I wonder if there are any examples of successful SmartCoins that are "user created" but eventually transitioned to being "official"?

We need more efforts like this.

General Discussion / Re: Staking BTS

That may be true, but I'm surprised no enterprising delegates/witnesses offer a % of their earnings to their voters... which makes me wonder if there's any technical impedance (or difficulty) in the system preventing them from doing so.

If it was possible to buy votes like this, this would be a flaw of DPOS.

Such a gateway would centralized, but trustless.

Care to explain? I cannot imagine how that would work.

If a gateway gives bitBTC in exchange of BTC, you don't need to trust it. It still stays a centralized business.

But that's a completely different business model, with a whole bunch of additional risks (on the side of the gateway owner). I perfectly understand that they do not offer such a service.

This business model may be actually not that risky as it seems. Gateway don't need to keep 100% BTC reserve in this case, just enough to satisfy daily withdrawal volume. When users deposit BTC, gateway would buy bitBTC on DEX, if the offer exists, or issue in other case. Risk of margin call would not be a problem for them, because they would keep BTC and bitBTC reserves, and if BTS price falls, they would sell a fraction of their reserves and add to collateral. When users withdraw their bitBTC, gateway would settle its debt. They don't offer such a service because they think that everybody should be happy with their IOU, and they don't need to bother to improve their service, but evidently many people are not happy with the current business model.
