Title: Bitshares has sponsored the Daily Decrypt for 4 weeks starting 9th Feb
Post by: JonnyB on January 30, 2016, 11:24:30 pm
UPDATE1: @onceuponatime has paid the whole weeks sponsorship out of his own pocket. Incredible. We should all be very grateful to him. We are now over funding for a second week of sponsorship

UPDATE2: We have now fully funded 4 weeks sponsorship of TDD thanks in large part to RonnyB from @ccedk with a whopping donation of 100k
4 weeks is plenty so you can all stop donating now. The donations account contains excess value of approx 22k which I shall return to ronnyb.
Thank to all who donated. Amanda will research bitshares and talk about different bits for 15secs of each show I believe.

This is all booked and paid for, it cost me 58000 BTS  0.5 btc
I would greatly appreciate it if you could all chip in to help cover this cost, please send to this bts account: 8)

dailydecryptsponsorship9-15feb

I did try to crowdfund this 6 weeks ago but there was little response: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20070.0.html (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20070.0.html)

And people were discussing in the telegram chat group and said they would chip in.

I could have done a woker proposal but just wanted to get it booked up and paid for with out faffing around.

so please kindly donate the the account above until it reaches a balance of 58k

thanks in advance to all those who donate. but please don't send me shitcoins.

Do we have any specific words of wisdom we are spreading via this sponsorship? should we be doing a poll of the most important aspects to broadcast?

Do we have any specific words of wisdom we are spreading via this sponsorship? should we be doing a poll of the most important aspects to broadcast?
Good idea.
Since it has already become bigger than Jonny intended, a poll would be nice to make sure we make the best use of the situation.

I suggest using this list by @Empirical1.2 as a source of ideas:

I would probably approach it more like this...

BitShares  The Home Of SmartCoins

What is BitShares?
BitShares is a decentralized platform that runs on a blockchain like Bitcoin but with MUCH higher performance.
Our core invention is Price Stable SmartCoins which since inception in 2014 have successfully allowed users to hold the value of currencies & commodities on the blockchain. Over the next few years this technology will completely transform the world as you know it and here's why...

Global Payments  (See you later PayPal!)
Stable BitShares SmartCurrencies like BitUSD let you make & receive payments globally for 0.1% which is up to 35x cheaper than leading centralized competitors.

Spread Trading Platform (Short IG Index & CMC!)
Trade popular SmartStocks and SmartIndexes on the BitShares blockchain at a fraction of the cost of leading spread trading platforms and without KYC. BitShares already offers the popular Nasdaq and Shenzen indexes.

Online MarketPlace (Asta la Vista Amazon!)
List & sell products directly & privately on the blockchain & in stable currencies like BitUSD for less than 0.1% in fees.

The Blockchain Economy
Due to volatility & tight margins, merchants have to convert Bitcoin payments directly to fiat. SmartCurrencies like BitUSD let merchants keep more of their proceeds on the blockchain, creating the potential to have entire supply chains & a blockchain economy that is independent of the traditional banking system.

Crypto Exchange (Arrivederci Coinbase!)
Traditional Bitcoin exchanges have high risks of thefts, seizures and shutdowns. BitShares lets you trade Bitcoin and other popular crypto-currency Smartcoins directly on the BitShares blockchain.

Digital Gold & Silver Vault
Physical gold has high storage costs, is difficult to move internationally and has historically been confiscated. Centralized derivatives like GLD have a high risk of default when there is a run on physical. BitGold & Silver lets you keep some of your portfolio on the blockchain free from those risks.

Subscription Services (Hello NetFlix!)
BitShares has recurring payment functionality which combined with SmartCurrencies bring the $30 Billion Subscription Market to the blockchain.

Transparent Crowdfunding (Nice Knowing you Kickstarter!)
Want to start a company doing anything you want and attract global investors without the red tape and high fees? BitShares lets you list, fund and trade on it's blockchain without the 3% processing fee charged by centralized competitors.

Global Remittance (So long Western Union!)
Due to Bitcoin volatility and slow confirmation times, Bitcoin has struggled to penetrate the $500 billion global remittance market. SmartCurrencies like BitUSD with their low fees and 3 second transaction times change this.

True Private Banking (At least Switzerland will still have watches and chocolate!)
BitShares allows anonymous global transactions and the ability to hold deposits in multiple SmartCurrencies, accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world. Your blockchain funds cannot be seized or scrutinized and are not affected by local or global banking crises.

Social Tipping & The Gift Economy
Social tipping is a new phenomenon which allows users on social media sites like Twitter, Reddit & Facebook to give a tip to content they appreciate and companies like ShareBits.io have already been integrated with the BitShares platform to take advantage of this.

Online Charity
Currency Smartcoins and $0.01 transaction fees make small online charity donations affordable, transparent and fast.

Sports Betting
BitShares prediction markets allow private wagering on sports events that can penetrate a huge global market without restriction while also reducing the average 'vig' of 5-10% to under 1%. BitShares has already offered wagering on 2016 NFL games. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/afp/article-3040540/Global-sports-gambling-worth-3-trillion.html

Global Lottery
Lotteries lose up to 50% on running costs, taxes and other expenses. BitShares RNG provides provably fair draws and with ticket sales directly on the blockchain, total running costs could be less than 1%.

Blockchain Casino
Winner winner Chicken Dinner! Volatility is cited as the number one reason more online casinos don't integrate Bitcoin, Smartcurrencies like BitUSD solve this problem and BitShares could even offer traditional Casino games on the blockchain for a fraction of the cost and penetrate the lucrative $30 billion onine gambling market.

Global Personal Insurance
By reducing traditional fixed costs and using the wisdom of the crowd for claim validation, the inventor of Smartcoins is attempting to revolutionize personal insurance by developing the first blockchain based Mutual Aid Society on the BitShares platform.

Keep it simple - lower the barrier to entry

Plant one simple idea every week to the viewers of The Daily Decrypt (http://thedailydecrypt.com/) to bring them to Bitshares (http://j.mp/BitBANK)

It would be nice some basics explanations about DPOS, UIA, MPA, FBA, our 3sec / Tx, maybe what is happenning with our fees and the BSIP10.
Also cover the actual project like openliedger, POS, metaexchange, bitcash, gamebet, ... so ppl realize thatba lot is happenning and it's a good time to invest.

Is it all that possible ? Because just our banner and a few words won't change a thing. It's a good opportunity to evolve awarness around BTS.

Sent 5k ;)

Come on guys, let's keep funding the accound and put BTS in the DailyDecript for 3-4 weeks !

I think we should highlight how even though we fight and we bicker and we call each other names, at the end of the day we vote and we move on.

We should be like a family that fights internally, but if any member of the family is attacked by an outsider we all gang up on the attacker.

I may have disagreements with some community members, but I would take them over any bitcoiners any day.

Top Tip for BitShares Holders

If you want to keep your shares in Bitshares and think this venture will increase our market cap (remember a lot of cool code is coming in February)

Consider shorting some USD to pay for advertising.

i agree that the testnet should get a mention, it is a great way to play around and see the possibilities.

also might be good if we can have Amanda run through a few wallet features or speak with Dan or Stan as a feature episode; she seems to be doing longer shows these days

Only 1 week until the sponsorship kicks in! - @JonnyBitcoin - have we booked in for a second week?

This is an awesome opportunity to get more eyeballs on the project!, it reaches between 1000-5000 views on average per episode.
Best result I can see was 24,000 views only 3 weeks ago ;)

There has been some good suggestions so far on what info we could push out in our 15sec segment per show, but time is of the essence - any other ideas?

Just need 8500bts more and I'll get it booked.

Donate now to BTS account: dailydecryptsponsorship9-15feb

And do we want want to fundraise a 3rd week?  maybe openledger should sponsor a whole week too.  @ccedk

And do we have anyone good who would maybe do a skype interview/chat with Amanda?
maybe Max Wright, bytemaster RonnyB, fuzzy

I'll kick in 3K. I'm a major fan of DD and Amanda is also very pro-BitShares. She told me last week she did an interview with BM but there were technical problems so it wasn't published. I encouraged her to reschedule and make it happen.

Her 2 separate interviews with the Dash dudes were not only longer but were well done and very informative. We need something similar.

I also agree with iHashFury our 15sec spots need to be simple and convey a specific point, like:

1) Speed - 3 second block times
2) Secure - no Mt. Gox here (you control your private keys)
3) Confidential transactions now, in GUI this quarter
4) For you developers: earn dividends from features you create thru Feature Backed Assets
5) Multisig made easy for everyone
6) Referral income for you affiliate hounds
7) FIAT on / offramps through CCEDK

Do you think it would be a good idea to mention about possible "Liquidity Event"? More details: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,21265.0.html

What do you think about that idea?

I'm not much of a trader, but I really like your initiative!

Generally I think it's a fantastic idea. Perhaps you have just given me an incentive to get better at trading.

Thanks Noisy!

first sponsored episode is tonight, here's what Amanda sent me.

Hi, Jonny! I'm currently writing up the messaging for the 20 days of sponsorship. To make sure I'm on the right path, I'd like to get the first three messages approved by you. Here they are:

1 – Today's episode is brought to you by Bitshares, a fast currency with just 3 second block times and a decentralized exchange built into its native wallet. There you can trade user-issued asset tokens, as well as value-pegged tokens like bitUSD and bitBTC – all without ever having to give up your private keys to a centralized exchange. You can learn more about the currency and its ecosystem at bitshares.org.

2 - Today's episode is brought to you by Bitshares, a currency which features usernames instead of long alphanumeric addresses to increase the ease of sending and receiving payments. The next release of Bitshares will offer the ability to make confidential transactions, an upgrade in privacy for all Bitshares users. You can download the smart-looking desktop wallet at bitshares.org, or simply try out the web version at openledger.info.

3 – Today's episode is brought to you by Bitshares, a proof-of-stake currency that offers a FIAT on-ramp to its ecosystem through the exchange CCEDK. The system seeks to attract developers by offering dividends on features created for the currency via Feature-Backed Asset tokens. You can learn more about Bitshares governance, features, and incentives at bitshares.org.

I think it would be worth mentioning OpenLedger since there have been a few articles about it lately and it seems people are starting to know it. I think we should focus more on that so people see we are advertising a decentralized exchange with many products instead of a coin. Simply because everyone downvotes everything that is not related to their coin, accuse of shilling, feel threatened, etc. Basically, people don't have a good reaction towards other coins. So I personally would go that way. The name OpenLedger needs to be there so people associate it.

Also same thing for Prediction Markets which is one of our few use cases. We need to make it known.

What Akado said, plus in message three perhaps change proof of stake to delegated proof of stake.  We don't want people to write us off as a standard pos coin.

Maybe just leave proof of stake out of the entire thing.  Say, delegated block signing protocol, or something along those lines.

Why wasn't today's episode of TheDailyDecrypt sponsored by BitShares (it was sponsored by The Galt Project)?

I thought that we had paid to sponsor 4 weeks of episodes. If they were all consecutive it would have the greatest impact.

Either way it should have been mentioned. When you say you sponsor 4 weeks of episodes everyone will think its exclusive to BitShares.

Imagine if by some chance that episode included some major news that everyone would rush to see, reaching lots of views in a single week and this happened. It would feel unfair.

Amanda forgot to mentions this until after we paid. It's not an issue.
We paid $189 per week for 4 weeks.
New rate is now $250 per week.
