General Discussion / Re: Kevin Harrington and St. Martin
« on: August 21, 2014, 12:42:02 am »
Let me set the record, Kevin is working on his own product, a Bitcoin related product that will be marketed on TV.  He's very interested in what we're doing, do doubt, and we may work with him in the future, but all that's happening with him is in the Bitcoin space.

We didn't go to St Martin to meet him, he just happened to be there, along with some equally impressive marketers. So no need to get scared and think you're suddenly gonna be woken from your stupor on the couch at 2am and hear some guy yelling: "It's like a shammie, it's like a towel, it's a BitShare!"

for a good laugh....

Yup. I'd say most of the time press reaches out to us.  We've actively gone after press, but isn't that easy to just get interviews.  Pretty impressive that almost all the big names who have done articles on us picked up the phone first.  A testament to how much innovation is happening at BitShares.

Just did a long interview today with a writer from Coindesk.  They want to move a bit more of the focus towards 2.0 tech so they reached out to us to find out what's going on.

It looks like they plan to cover how Ethereum and BitShares agree on the direction mining is headed and may actually create several articles out of the interview (it went 90 minutes).  So I'll update here when it goes out.

General Discussion / Re: Should we reconsider using the word "Bank"?
« on: August 21, 2014, 12:00:07 am »
I just had this very discussion with Dan today.  The metaphor we came up with is "virtual vault" where you can trade virtual gold, silver, dollars, etc.   Trying to move the message more away from bank and never directly call it a bank.  After all, the X stands for eXchange, so it functions mostly as an exchange, albeit an exhange where you can store your value long term.

well our volume just surpassed half a million today so could happen by the morning....trend in the charts looks strong.  I remember the olden days (last week) when we were at $50,000/day volume and I was thinking, man, cant wait for us to be at $150k/day.

Another day like today (20%+ gain) and we'll surpass NXT to slide into the #4 spot.  NXT is Next!

Hate to spout an overused phrase, but "any press is good press" - and controversy builds brands.

As my marketing buddy said yesterday, if you don't know that, ask Howard Stern, Donald Trump or frickin Miley Cyrus. They are masters of controversy...and making it look like it's real (when often it's all strategic and intentional).

No, I don't want BitShares to be the Miley Cyrus of our industry, but I do think having those who vehemently oppose us or don't think we will work is GREAT marketing and powerful for brand building.  Apple did it often in the early days painting themselves as the rebel underdogs....even Google did it (we're not evil).

So let's stay in controversy, public discussions, and not be concerned if we're ruffling feathers, because to be not talked about is to be irrelevant.

Good publicity, bad publicity, yes please.  B

General Discussion / Re: List of New Exchanges for BTSX
« on: August 20, 2014, 03:23:11 pm »
Ok, so we now have 4 new exchanges we're in active talks with in addition to the 4 we're on.  I'd like to get us on 10-12 with at least two being some of the largest ones, in average volume.  PM me if you want to help with a specific one, its time to get as many platforms ready as possible so when we make our big move upwards, those piling in will have plenty of options and those already on a particular exchange will be able to just move into BTSX without signing up somewhere new.  B

General Discussion / Re: Negative Post about Bitshares
« on: August 20, 2014, 03:20:21 pm »
What's interesting is this guy doesn't allow comments on his blog post.  Guess he doesn't want to enter the arena of ideas and have his challenged.  But he does have a place to email him directly. I suggest we win him over, or attempt to rather than fight him.  His opinion is based on a lot of ignorance about BitShares, but it's good practice for all of us to win over our worst critics, or attempt to, even if we dont.  What's amazing to me is that with as many people as we meet and talk to at all the events we attend, rarely do we find anyone who has more than one or two objections...so bloggers like this are certainly in the minority..... thanks guys...this is quite a list to get started with and some awesome alternative ideas as well.

Anyone want to help with a specific exchange and has either experience listing with them or contacts?  If so, please PM me. I will tip nicely if you get us listed. B

You guys are hillarious. I create a dozen different t-shirt designs for the Texas Bitcoin Conference and get overtly criticized for them, now there are demands that someone steps up and sells/prints up more tees?  No thanks.

Feel free to steal my designs if you like them - or create your own if you guys are that much in need of t-shirts.
