Hi everybody,
I've gotten busy with life / my job, so I haven't been as involved in this project over the past year or so. I have some questions:
1. I probably have an old version of BitShares for OSX. What do I need to do to make sure I have a smooth transition to the latest version?
2. What do I need to do to make sure my funds are secure for the 2.0 upgrade?
Thanks :)

Welcome back :)
1. Update your version to 0.5.3 https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares/releases/tag/bts%2F0.5.3
2. Make sure that everything fine
3. Update your version to 0.9.2 https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares/releases
4. Make sure that everything fine and you synced with network
5. Make backup
6. Wait for BitShares 2.0 and enjoy!
Before doing anything make sure that you have backup of you current wallet.

Try a different browser maybe.

What happens to the BTS locked up? Will they be released when transferring, or do we import the wallets again?

I had this same issue. Make sure to try this (if you haven't already)...
1) Make sure Windows Firewall is set to allow -- C:\program files\bitshares\bin\bitshares_client.exe for both Private and Public Networks
2) Go the folder containing the Bitshares EXE and right click it >Properties>Compatability Tab> Check "Run as Admin". Do the same for the bitshares_client.exe
Once I did this I haven't had any issues running the client on Windows. Of course your mileage my vary :P
*edit* just read your post again... are you not able to download the installation package or are you talking about d/l'ing the chain once installed?
