Technical Support / Version BitShares 2.0.160217
« on: February 27, 2016, 06:53:05 am »
on the bitshares.org webwallet is not working for me since 1 day. i suspect the version is the problem, because on the same machine

the openledger wallet with version   (Powered by BitShares 2.0.160225) is working just fine.

would be nice to get it updated as well.

Congrats on getting a job.

I don't quite get why you are posting all this stuff though... As far as I can tell all your workers got voted in and you set the pay.  If you wanted more pay, why didn't you ask for more?  You kind of sound like the guy who quits or gets fired and says "That company is screwed without me, I'm irreplaceable!" . Life does go on and so will bitshares.  Whether your working for it or not.

You certainly got a wrong impression.

The issue was (and kind of still is) .. that my worker wouldn't make it if Bytemaster didn't vote for it (I actually asked him NOT to vote for it, but it seems it is to late) ..
The problem here is that I have deliberately not searched for a regular job because my impression was that my work here is appreciated and could be funded for longer ..
Only due to the anti-dilution discussion and the decisions of one individual, this worker would not have been approved .. which  is a big issue not only for me!

The reasons I didn't want BM to vote for my workers is very simple: BitShares deserves to be more independent from CNX and it is very unfortunate that it currently can't be because of this one proxy!

Anyway, if the subsequent workers are approved .. I of course will put the promised time into BitShares .. the other "job" is also just a freelancing just for about 20h/week (at most) .. and I do have quite some things on my list to do .. not just coding and docs

i would just say 1 big whale against the other, so you need bytemasters vote, because all the no voters are united, but not the yes voters.

An early demo of the cryptofresh Post feature, and a call for testers:

https://cryptofresh.com/posts

After logging in with your BitShares account, and can write posts directly on the blockchain.
New posts will appear on the page as they come in, creating a realtime chat experience.

Each account starts out with 100 test credits. Posts consume 5 credits (or more, depending on post length). Tips consume 5 test credits. This is to prevent spam and also a fun experiment. I am working towards a more convenient model but this allows us to start testing right away.

There are 3 main features in play:
1) Logging in
2) Posting
3) Tipping

Replying is not yet functional (but mostly implemented in the backend). Feedback welcome & let me know if anything breaks! :D

nice!

i got confused in the beginning, because i thought you want my BTS password. i know most of customers are stupid, so maybe you should explicid state "don't use your Bitshares account password"

https://lisk.io/

they are combining Crypti and Ethereum. Do you think the fundraiser is worth to risk some BTC?

General Discussion / Re: Subsidizing Market Liquidity
« on: February 20, 2016, 06:22:39 pm »
Has anyone worried about "self trading" sat down and attempted to strategize how they would do this in a market with at least two market makers competing for the reward?

Assume a market with a price of 1:1 and a spread of 5% on both sides.

Alice places an order at .95 and must wait 10 minutes before she qualifies for a reward.
After 9 minutes, Bob places his order at .95001.
Alice is now unable to match herself without buying out Bob first.
Not wanting to let Bob grab the liquidity reward, Alice moves her order to .95002 and the clock resets for 10 more minutes.

This back and forth will continue until the spread is greatly reduced. The narrower the spread, the riskier the market making becomes. Who is going to place a huge wall at the top off the book?

Any rewards paid do not cover 100% of market risks which means market makers will still have to maintain a reasonable spread and there will be MANY orders in front of them.

Go ahead and attempt to name a strategy that works to abuse the rewards in light of market competition.

Lastly assume a 3rd actor, someone who knows market makers are attempting to pump fake volume just to get a reward. This actor will place their orders just in front of the market maker just to collect the spread on the market makers "back and forth" selling.

some people are worried that whales can abuse it like

Alice place a sell order of 20.000 bitUSD 8% away from the market. The bitshares exchange has not so many traders yet, so in 10 minutes only 1000 bitUSD is before her. so she will just buy 21.000 bitUSD and get most of the reward today.

- how many pageviews does BTSR provide monthly?

- how much revenue was generated so far?

- why do you use some of the money you will recieve for the OBITS buyback?

General Discussion / Re: Prospectus for BlockTrades public offering
« on: February 20, 2016, 05:56:53 pm »
i am confused. on the obits.io website they state, that 0.2% or 100% of their tradingfees are going into buybacks, but with your statement this would put obits only to 50% or do i understand something wrong?
I've never read that info before, but I guess the info there should at least be clarified. Strictly speaking, in the section about trading fees, I guess it says 100% of the profits of OL for trading fees, which is 50% of the total trading fees. I am sure Ronny has publicly disclosed the 50/50 split with us several times in the past. It should also be noted I think that if Ronny didn't have BlockTrades doing this, he would have to pay someone to manage it, and those costs would come out of the profit from the trading fees anyways.

But I agree this page should probably be clarified to indicate there is a split of the trading fee revenue 50/50 between OL and BlockTrades acting as a gateway service provider. Please note that this split only applies to trading fees, BlockTrades does not participate in revenue sharing for other profit areas from OL (e.g. registration fees and other fees collected by OL).

thanks for the clarification.

General Discussion / Re: bitSHARES - As True Shares and Not a Currency!

i would love to see this experiement, but to be clear - it is a experiement so if we want to do it, we should create a second
blockchain for it and they should compete against each other.

the outcome is not clear and the risk is so high, that we can destroy everything we worked so far.

many people don't understand that all numbers are assumptions from bytemaster and the committee will have
the autority to change them.

so if 10 minutes is good etc. can be discusssed and change, how much we spend on something like this is decided via workers who are voted in.

that's leave us to the point

"is this a good idea?"

i think yes, because

- it will attract more "traders" aka users.
- with more traders more "holders" aka users will come etc.

i would just like to have some feature added like "is x% away from peg" as a set we can change. with this we can make it possible that the order has to stay x minutes on the order book but has to be at least x % near the peg. with more minutes on the ordersbooks there is not such a thing then fake liquidity, because some other guy can buy your order up for you, so you have some risks if you trade always against yourself.

will you opensource the code?

General Discussion / Re: OPENBAZAAR
« on: February 20, 2016, 05:24:57 pm »
They are open for pull request even though he mentioned that the ob community is quite btc centric. They do have a plan for adding a plugin system for other chains

BUT, seening Dr. Washingtons presentation about future innovations, i think instead of having BitShare as a 'plugin' is unvervaluing the advantages they would get from it.

I'll try to reach out to tgem more often and joun discussions with their community.

Definitly worth doing, not so low hanging fruits though

great to know him directly. maybe we find a way to make it easy to use openbazaar for bitshares users? something like, to get their plattform into our wallet or so.
