How are your generators from the 60's going to be cheaper to run than nspi? I can't imagine the uarb ever allowing it, nspi must have their guaranteed return on investment!  Monopolies don't like competition and they have no incentive to allow you to compete if you aren't helping them with their green quotas.

I mapped out all the hydro power potential in cb with the intent of using the power to run a data centre and using the heat to keep a greenhouse warm. But we live in too much of a backwater. Too much red tape.

The phrase 'they don't build them like they used to' really applies in this case when it comes to our generators. These are baseload generators. They were designed to just keep running, As a matter of fact one of our supporting mechanical engineers has a handful he has worked on that have seen 300,000+ hours of run-time. Ours only have about a 1000 hrs of runtime on them.. they like babies! Because of their design, it gives us the capability to utilize waste cooking oil. Most modern generators today are made from cheaper materials and aluminum and just melt trying to run on that kind of fuel. We have 4 different engineers involved at the moment in regards to just the generators and the CHP process alone. There is also an oversupply of waste oil in our region and we have secured supply for the bunker.

As for competition to NSBI, if you have checked their website and looked into the feed-in programs, there are a number of options, and the people who run the programs are quite nice and very helpful. You are right, they must have their guaranteed return (though the new gov is taking steps to fix that), and our operations isn't going to impact that in the least.  Actually the COMFIT program that was introduced just 4 years ago was so successful that they have met and exceeded their goals that were set for this year to have 25% of power provided by renewable energy.

Funny you mention greenhouse.. I was having a conversation with an agricultural engineer this afternoon about how the excess heat we produce would be ideal for greenhouse operation potentially right on top of the bunker that would exceed any other operations efficiency. It's always interesting to me how people of almost all background are inspired by the bunker to come up with these unique ideas of how it can better serve the world. Ironic that it was original designed for the end of the world huh?

I hear you on the frustration of NSPI though. If you don't have some kind of political backing it can be exceedingly difficult sometimes depending on what department you are dealing with. If we are not selling to the grid, we could also simply use it for ourselves. Either way we are making the world a better place putting our old technology to modern day use.

Cool! I have some questions:

How long before the data center is set up?

We are operational now actually with Tier 2 uptime. As we gain access to more capital for improvements we will update and upgrade to Tier 3 and maybe 4 if we start to attract the financial industry.

How many racks are you planning?

100 ultra high density racks. Each would have a capacity of 100kw of power and cooling.

How much potential space for expansion?

We could potentially expand the data center into other parts of the bunker. We had started preparing a separate space for miners where radio tech used to be located. However the way I am looking at the industry, it seems more likely it will be all delegates.

Is it powered by the grid? What are your redundant power supply options?

Grid power right now yes. Tier 2 uptime includes a 500kw 10 minute uptime UPS + backup generator. There are three other backup generators onsite we are currently in the process of getting updated. As we grow this will change.

How are you going to keep everything cool? How good is the existing ventilation? Will you need to install a new system?

Water... we have access to a virtually unlimited giant aquafer in our location that was part of the original design to supply all cooling and domestic water for the bunker. At present we have access to 120GPM.

Ventilation was designed for chemical, nuclear, or biological fallout. It works pretty good. If your question is in regards to the data node operations specifically, there are plans for minor adjustments to the ventilation, but we largely will continue to use the existing system. Heat from the servers will be recovered to assist in heating the rest of the building. 

Fire suppression system?

None - Fire prevention though - YES. This is part of the node update plans. The design of the shielded node making it an ideal solution for reduced oxygen atmosphere. This is a new technology only recently developed that will prevent fires from happening thanks to lack of oxygen in the node. Instead if there is such a condition it will smolder and aspirators will detect and alert for action.

What will physical security be like in terms of physical access?

Entry requires access through a man-trap. Data and offices associated with data will only have authorized personnel. The facility is already outfitted with giant steel fire doors in each zone. We will be replacing the counter weight systems with modern magnetic locking solutions that will use biometric/pin/verified live security to green, yellow, and red zones. All personnel will be held to the strictest standards of security compliance. Our primary space will be off-limits. No immediate plans for colo with access to the facility. Managed colo is a possibility, though we don't have immediate plans to support that primarily do to the inefficiency and lowered security it introduces.

Do you live down there?

No, but I do live on the base in the home the Captain used to live in. 2 minutes away.

How zombie proof is it?

Chemical, Biological, or Nuclear shelter -- As Zombie proof as it gets.

Good Day All!

I am in the Beyond Bitcoin mumble sessions and often times I find myself pretty much every week having some kind of update to share about the bunker.

For those who don't know about it, we are located in a 64,000 sq/ft cold war nuclear bunker located in Canada that was designed for government continuity in the event of chemical, biological, or nuclear fallout. 350 people could survive there and enable the Canadian government to continue. We are the only remaining bunker of the 6 that were built across the country, and it is privately owned now by us.

A few weeks ago, we had the Premier of Nova Scotia Stephen McNeil come to the bunker along with our MLA and District Counselor. I gave them a tour and discussed some of our future plans. They enjoyed it a great deal and love all we are doing with it.

For all our US neighbours, the Premier would be the equivalent to your US State Senator showing up at your door. Pretty awesome!

As we move forward with more of our data center operations, I am considering creating a delegate that would benefit from being located at the bunker. Of all the delegates, we would be impervious to man made or natural disasters.  I have some other ideas too coming together from discussions with others, but will share those another time.

My reference was to the very recent explosion of ponzi 'gambling' going on in BTC. Dozens popped up in the last month after one giant one made off with thousands in BTC. Sure there is the standard gambling.

Looking forward to seeing this develop. I listened in on all sessions in mumble about this and the prospects are awesome. 

If you need a distribution center in Canada or for North America, the bunker has 64,000 sq/ft of space, much of which is currently available. Guarantee you no other distribution center will offer you EMP shielding for your components the way we can.

Many built things up with the expectation that the value of btc would just continue to skyrocket.
