We need a short paragraph to describe the forum to anyone first coming to our new site.  Anyone want to take a crack at it? It needs to be brief (like 4-5 sentences) and will go on this page under community: http://bitshares.thecreativemomentum.com/community/

I was going to say something like:  Join our community of thousands from around the world to learn about all things BitShares.  We speak X languages, represent X number of countries, come from diverse backgrounds, etc etc.   Join us to learn, connect, etc.  Just thinking out loud.

Rather than us describing you, I'd rather the forum speak for itself.  I'll let you all discuss and throw in your thoughts, then let me know who's you like best.  Oh, and keep it short and sweet, and inspiring isn't a bad thing....

This is the audio for our explainer video "What are BitShares?" that will be the first thing people see when they land on our website. We have the legendary Mike O'brien as our narrator (voice of Facebook, Coke, Paypal, Sprint, Levi's, 2014 Grammy's,  etc).  He did an awesome job.

I've requested them to slow it down to 90 seconds rather than 1 minute, so the video isn't rushed.  Will post the animation soon, once I see it myself.

Since we're sharing a non-tangible concept with the world, what is it "around and about" BitShares that we can tell the world? Is it decentralization? Freedom? Transparency? Pulling the rug of power out from under Big Business, Big Banks and Big Brother?

This article is worth a read. No, we're not selling energy drinks or extreme sports, but we ARE promoting something bigger than just open source software. There may be lessons to take from Redbull as we start sharing our concepts with the world.  Thought you all would enjoy reading it....

A High-Concept Drink (In Other Words, the Drink Is Not the Point)
"Red Bull is a publishing empire that also happens to sell a beverage. Lately, every conference PowerPoint on the future of advertising or PR seems to mention Red Bull as a — if not the — shining example of a brand-turned-publisher, what every future-leaning agency encourages its clients to emulate."

General Discussion / New website sneak peek: BITSHARES.ORG
« on: March 18, 2014, 01:31:00 pm »
Hey Forum,

It's that time! We've been working with an incredible award-winning web design firm company called The Creative Momentum to create a completely new website for BitShares.  It will be at bitshares.org and launch this Friday.  I wanted to give everyone a sneek peek of what we've been working on. Keep in mind, not all pages on the site are up yet and it's still being finished, but you'll get a sense of it when you see the test site.

Creative suggested we aim for more of the human element to make this technology a little more connected, so we've gone with some images of people interacting with technology as a background. They've also tweaked our logo and look a bit, which I think makes the BitShares logo feel more friendly and approachable.  As you can see, the explainer video will be front and center, a critical tool that will give those completely new to concept a quick 90 second overview of what we're all about.  There are a lot of other elements in there worth looking at, but I'll let you all look through it and see for yourself.

This has been an enormous focus for me and the marketing team over the last couple months.  I'm very proud of how it's coming together.  Feel free to post your thoughts, ideas, opinions, whatever, regarding the site.  We'll be continually refining this site over time, but I hope that with it we'll be able to more clearly communicate our message, generate interest, and allow people to get educated about everything BitShares. Not only that, but we'll grow the reach and size of this forum tremendously once we have more visitors coming to our site.  B

General Discussion / At Beyond Bitcoin, who do YOU want to hear speak?
« on: March 10, 2014, 06:15:22 pm »
I've been talking to a lot of potential leaders to come speak in Vegas this July at Beyond Bitcoin.  The key theme of the event is any technology or idea that is a 'next generation' use of the Bitcoin technology, decentralized businesses, etc.  So it wont just be our team talking.  I'd like to get a solid group of speakers together but could use some help.

One thing I'm noticing with these events we go to is rarely are the speakers very good at, well, speaking!  So let me make a short list of criteria for what kind of person we should invite to this event:

1) First, I'd like to find people who are engaging, passionate and actually hold a crowd's attention.  There aren't many of these in our industry.  A great example would be Stefan Molyneux.  I just saw him give a talk in Texas and the crowd loved him.  You wont fall asleep listening to him, he has his own show online so he's comfortable shooting from the hip, and anything but boring.  He's on my short list.  Let's find people who can speak.

2) Secondly, we're looking for experts.  Someone who can deliver on a topic with authority.  Andreas Antonopoulos is a great example.  He always packs a room and commands respect when he speaks.  He friggin KNOWS his stuff.  He's not just a great at number 1, he also fits number 2.

3) Third, let's think outside the box.  I'd like to hear from people who may have never before been to a Bitcoin event.  Mabye they're an expert in a related industry or they've been talking about these technologies for a while but just not yet at events.  An example of someone like this would be Max Keiser. He has a large following, he loves our concepts, and he'd pull a crowd all by himself.

Those are really my only criteria.  They can't be boring, they have to have solid content, and let's think of some new options from the normal list we see all the time (with a few exceptions). Also, at this point, we're looking for people who won't charge a fee.  This may limit us, but as of now we have to go with unpaid speakers, as most events are doing, in order to cover expenses.  In following years perhaps we'll be able to afford to pay big fees for celebrity speakers.  The interest level is high enough right now that the least of my concerns is getting enough speakers, rather just narrowing it down to the very best.  There won't be a boatload of speakers at our event, likely under 20, and only one speaking track, so we need to make it count.

With all that said, who would YOU love to see speak? Who do you currently listen to (notice I didn't say read).  Who have you seen in person or on video/audio who's a frickin rock star and needs to be at this event?

Go...

General Discussion / What are Bitshares? Video Script
« on: March 09, 2014, 02:43:16 am »
Hey Forum,

I've written this script (with much help from Dan and Gregory) and wanted to get your opinions on it.
This will be for the first explainer video one sees when coming to our new website.
It will be around 90 seconds and be animated, like the What is Bitcoin Video.
The purpose is to (breifly) give an overview of DACs and what BitShares does.
The script is first, whats below each line is a suggestion for the visuals...I may leave that up to the video team to come up with.
Either way, please let me know if you like it, hate it, or have a better idea, especially for the visuals.

WHAT ARE BITSHARES?

I’m picturing a little guy walking along who stops when he hears the narrator speak.  in parentheses is suggested visuals.

Imagine a company.
(building drops from sky right next to him - that was close! - a sign appears swinging off it that says COMPANY, INC).

This company has a lot of expenses.
(add in employees, desks, salaries, utilities, staplers, rent, equipment, etc).

But what if you could remove those expenses...
(show them each going poof and turning into money, which grows into a pile of bills next to guy)

and give all the money saved to the customers?
(the guy sees shares magically appear in one hand, then some bills fly into the other hand of him and his friends, a big crowd who we now see around him, all smiling).

What if there were no middlemen, brokers, or commissions...
(big X’s over a greedy looking fat businessman, or you could have a bunch of men with “middle” on their shirts, or a slick looking dude, and scissors cutting a part of a dollar off…… our guy has even more money now, spilling out of his pockets)

and you could trade your shares with anyone as easy as sending email?
(a computer flops from sky in front of guy, showing shares on screen, he presses big “send” button and the shares shoot to another guy on other side of a tiny globe, also with a computer…. both celebrate).

Well now you can, with BitShares.
(In zooms the BitShares logo looking like a hero who stands next to our guy. Put a cape on the “b”?)

BitShares are shares of digital companies that are traded directly from person to person over the internet.
(can we show the “b” zooming around taking companies - which could be the buildings we used earlier - and turning them into “b” companies! The companies themselves look proud and puffed up).

Digital companies exist entirely in software that runs on the computers of the customers that use them.
(the company building is now split into pieces and flies into the computers of a bunch of happy shareholders)

Bitcoin was the first digital company that calls its shares coins and promoted their use as a form of money.
(Show the Bitcoin “B” symbol kind of amble in - walking - also wearing a cape, right on the other side of the guy in the story.  A coin falls out of his pocket with a bitcoin B on it, he looks a bit embarassed.  The two b's smile at each other knowingly with arms crossed, capes flying).

BitShares goes beyond Bitcoin to offer many new, and more profitable companies in industries like banking, stock exchanges, auctions, music, voting, lotteries,  insurance, and many more.
(images representing each of these appears as BitShares walks over and starts magically making a growing pile of new industries like he has superpowers.  Bitcoin is wowed and guy is happy because his money grows).

Bitshares does for business what Bitcoin is doing for money.

Marketplace / 150PTS - Comprehensive FAQ for new site [CLOSED]
« on: March 04, 2014, 02:30:11 pm »
We need to create the mother of all FAQ's for our new site.  I know we have some smaller ones here on the forum (like the great one on AGS by Que23).  Let's use that format to build a master FAQ.

Start with the most basic questions a complete newbie would have like "What are BitShares?" and move out from there.  Please try to keep the questions and answers brief (as possible)...this will serve as basic Q&A, not as an in depth info source, which can be covered in the upcoming blog and here on the forum.

Also, don't worry so much about technical questions like "How do I build a PTS mining rig for fun and profit in my mom's basement?"  or "How do I create a DAC on your platform?" Simple, basic questions that MOST people would ask.  We can always include more technical ones later.

This is a high priority, so we'll pay out 150PTS.  If one person compiles it all and it's good enough to use as it,  they'll get the bounty, but if we have multiple submissions I'll try to make it as fair as possible when paying out.  It would be great if it were organized by subject (for example, the entire AGS FAQ would all fit under the "AGS" section).

Also, please suggest questions you wish YOU had answered when you were first learning about BitShares.  What questions did you have? Post them here.

Good Luck,
B

Hello Forum!

* UPDATE * This bounty has been changed to 0.1 PTS rather than 1 PTS as of the post in this thread where I announced the change.

I'd like to ask for your help.  We're attempting to catalog all the press and articles from third parties that exist currently about BitShares and Invictus to create the new "Press" section of our website.

So here are the rules:
There's no limit on hold old or new it can be.
It has to mention Invictus, BitShares, a team member by name (ex: Daniel Larimer), or one of our products or concepts (Keyhotee, DAC's, etc).
It can't simply be a post from another forum.
It needs to be something I haven't seen yet.  If you're not sure, post anyway.
Post 1) the link and 2) your PTS address  - and you'll get 1PTS for each one accepted.
Bounty will be paid to whomever posts the link first, if there's multiple posts of the same source.

I'm looking for formal articles and stories written from large or small sources, well written blog posts, etc. In other words, something we'd be proud to post in our Press section, without editing. Also, negative press also counts, so send that as well!  Thanks and happy searching.

Hello Forum!

A quick update from the Marketing Dept:

March 21 will be the launch of our brand new website, bitshares.org. New site? Didn't we just get a new site you may be asking? Well, yes and no.  Invictus.io was created to be a temporary step in the right direction from our original site at invictus-innovations.com.  And it's serving it's purpose for now. But our plan was to eventually build a permanent top-shelf site for the bitshares concept and brand.  And that new site is in now in development: bitshares.org.

When most technology companies were asked, "What is the single most important marketing tool in your company?" The answer for the vast majority of them is "our corporate website." So while we do have many other divisions of marketing we're working on, our first priority is to get dialed in on the web.

After an exhaustive search, we've hired one of most award winning web design companies in the country to build us a world class website.  This new site will feature a professionally produced explainer video on the homepage titled "What are Bitshares?" This purpose of this video is to help someone with no knowledge of our industry, bitshares or even bitcoin - to understand the basic concepts of bitshares. Yes, your mom can now get it - no offense, mom.

The new site will feature press from mainstream media sources, links to articles, a blog, links to social media, a videos section for all the explainer videos we're creating, new video content from Dan, experts in the industry and events, an FAQ, Wiki, and so much more than we've have on our site now. It will have over 15 sections of content, a cutting edge design, refined logos and branding, be fully interactive, and of course prominently feature this forum - allowing new people to get plugged into our community.  It will be optimized for mobile and tablets so it’s just as easy to use on any platform.  We will have a comprehensive SEO program in place as well to get our site and videos in front of the masses. My goal is for our content to come up first whether you're searching for bitshares OR bitcoin. Our exposure will jump dramatically.

In addition, bitshares.org will link to our brand new beyondbitcoin.org site.   This site will be all about our big event in Las Vegas this summer.  Both sites will launch March 21.  We aim to not only have the best websites in our industry, but more importantly world class sites - period.  Everything we've been doing in our marketing department from public relations to video content to social media is now focused on preparing content for these sites. We aim to clearly communicate what we do and show people how to get involved, whether they want to invest, build a business on the technology or attend our event in July.  Great things are in store  and we look forward to sharing this big step with you in March, with many more developments in the pipeline right after.

BTW, many of the ideas for website content came from the forum, so if you have suggestions on things you'd like to see added, feel free to let us know! And mark your calendar for Mar 21.

Marketplace / 10 PTS -Step by Step How To: USD to PTS to AGS [CLOSED]
« on: January 29, 2014, 07:07:18 am »
Hey Forum...
Looking for someone to write a how to document.  Imagine your reader knows nothing at all about bitcoin, protoshares, crypto, etc. and take them step by step from turning money in the bank to bitcoin, BTC to PTS and PTS into AGS. Please use fewest steps possible, only choose one site to buy crypto (whichever you think is best) and give no options.

Just write it so simple my mom could buy PTS/AGS after reading it.  We'll take what you write and turn it into a motiongraphics video.  Be creative, be simple, and speak in plain english as much as possible....also, please use the EASIEST sites/exchanges possible, services that are most user friendly, not just whatever you may already be using.  Thanks and good luck!

General Discussion / Facebook, twitter, and team UPDATE from Miami.
« on: January 24, 2014, 03:03:08 pm »
Good morning from sunny Florida!

The team is enroute right now to the North American Bitcoin Conference in Miami Beach. Later today Dan will be interviewed by Let's Talk Bitcoin. We're very excited to be down here and expect big things out of this weekend.

But we could certainly use the help of the community today. We're going to ask 500+ people to connect with us on social media, so we'd like to have as many people already following us before we do.  Would you take a minute to like us on the new bitshares Facebook page and follow us on twitter: @_bitshares?  Also please pass along the request to those you know who may not be on the forum but who'd like to connect with us.

Thanks in advance and keep your eyes open for photos and updates from Miami.

Thanks,
B

Hey Forum,

Today I'm getting all the social media sites set up and prepped for our big event in Miami.  I realize we have a bitshares facebook page, but I'm not sure who is the admin for it. If anyone knows, please post below or have them contact me so we can get it set up prior to Miami. Thanks B

We are in the early stages of planning a bitShares Developers Conference to be held this summer in Las Vegas.  The conference would aim to bring together developers, entrepreneurs, and investors to create new DAC's.

The content would feature sessions taught by the founders of Invictus, industry leaders, and specialists in areas necessary to launch your own bitShares DAC. It would be three days, (one evening reception and two full days of content), and breakfast and lunch each day would be included.  The aim would be for attendees to come with their idea and leave with the tools, connections, and funding to make it a reality.

So, my question to the forum is: What price point would a conference like this be worth? I know many of you have been to conferences from a $300 bitcoin conference (Miami) to a $2100 Microsoft Developers Conference.  Where on that spectrum would you think would offer a good value to price this event?

** Congratulations to our two winners! If you're the largest donor to each address, please contact us for validation. We look forward to having you join us in Miami!

We're happy to announce that within the next few days we will surpass $1,000,000 raised for AngelShares.  To celebrate, we'd like to announce a contest for two winners.

Whoever has the largest single donation to the Bitcoin address and the single largest donation to the ProtoShares address will both win a free all-access pass to join us at the North American Bitcoin Conference in Miami Jan 25-26.  We'd also like to invite you to the BitShares sponsored afterparty on Saturday and a private lunch with the Invictus team on Sunday, Jan 26.

Those who have already donated are automatically able to participate.  When the total value of the two addresses reaches $1,000,000, the largest single donation to each address between Jan 1 and that time will win. Since the dollar value of PTS and BTC is constantly changing, we will stop the contest when we either pass 40,000 ProtoShares or 625 Bitcoin.

We'll announce the addresses of those two winners the following day.  Thanks again for helping make AngelShares a huge success and we look forward to seeing you in Miami!
