General Discussion / Re: how about to raise block reward?
« on: January 12, 2017, 12:55:29 pm »
I agree.

Accurate price feeds are essential to bitshares and witnesses are not paid enough. Double it to at least 3bts per block

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: [Worker Proposal] Chronos Crypto Videos #2
« on: January 12, 2017, 12:30:33 pm »
I feel these videos should be posted with a creative commons licence on a bitshares channel as well as your own personal channel.
With a CC licence I would be happy to vote for this worker proposal again.

Do I have permission to upload these videos to the bitshares youtube channel?

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: [Witness Proposal] 1.6.59 - xn-delegate
« on: January 11, 2017, 06:51:05 pm »
I get you're a developer... Why not open a worker proposal instead of witness?
The witness is not to make money, is to better participation.
Because the current worker is not well supervised.

What do you mean by not well supervised?

I voted for your witness.
I believe your witness has missed around 370 blocks in past 24 hours. Probably due to the high latency associated with being hosted in china.
Maybe your location is not suitable for hosting witness?

I tend to agree with @Chronos on this one

I don't see the need or purpose to centralise power to the comittee or similar.

The current systems of worker proposals is working fine.
You may disagree with how funds are being spent or not spent but that's the shareholders or their proxies decision.

1.) yes we do. I'm a whale but I'm scared to borrow and sell bitassets into the market beause I fear I won't be able to buy them back when I wish to close my position.

2.) its hard to use it when theres no liquidity, volume or market depth

3.) stop losses won't work if theres no liquidity

4.) People don't understand liquidity, volume and market depth and how hard it is to deal with this chicken and egg issue.

General Discussion / Re: What R3 think of our bitassets / smartcoins
« on: November 30, 2016, 10:54:55 am »
I agree that all proposed sidechains have some sort of security concerns.

If BTC was used as collateral for smartcoins, BTS would still have value because it is the only currency that trade fees can be paid in.

Right now trade fees going the reserve pool are pathetic but in the future trade fees being paid into the reserve pool could be enough to shrink the available supply.

This is why BTS would still be valuable if BTC was used as collateral.

Another reason why Bitcoin would make much more sense as collateral is that many people trust and understand bitcoin so they know they can force settle at any time and get their bitcoin back.

With bit.usd if you force settle you get BTS back. Not many people care or understand what BTS is.
If btc was collateral your force settle of bit.usd would just be a purchase of bitcoin.
Also BTC price is much harder to manipulate.

You're right they said cryptocurrency not altcoin.
However I still think bitcoin would be good collateral for a stablecoin.

Why would you use an IOU from a bank as collateral when you could just use an IOU from the bank directly?

R3 say our smartcoin design could maybe work but suggest pooled collateral instead of individual collateral for the smart contract.
they also say that using an altcoin as collateral won't be good enough due to inherent volatility and liquidity.

worth a read     http://www.r3cev.com/blog/2016/8/24/stablecoins

I tend to agree that altcoins are a shitty form of collateral and only something with the depth and liquidity of bitcoin make sense.
This is why the having a bitcoin sidechain will be such a huge step forward.

General Discussion / Re: Changes I think Openledger needs

2. UIAs
It is confusing to have both TRADE.X and OPEN.X available as coin deposit options.  Only Openledger UIAs should be available.
What do you guys thing of updating the "Try Online Wallet" link at https://bitshares.org,  from OpenLedger to the  Bitshares branded wallet ( https://bitshares.org/wallet )? If OpenLedger offers only its own exchange UIAs, it wouldn't make sense for it to be the official Bitshares wallet link.

Yes I agree. Bitshares.org/wallet should be the wallet shown on bitshares.org
As openledger masks its open.x assets

General Discussion / Withdraw BitUSD to your bank account.
« on: November 23, 2016, 07:55:55 pm »
I've made a quick video showing how to withdraw BitUSD to you bank account via uphold.com

https://youtu.be/IFs-iFJ8Y3Y

I cut this video a bit short as it displayed some of my bank details. but you just withdraw to USD bank account at 0% fee and have to wait 1-3 days

Obviously you have to pay upholds conversion fee of 0.45% and whatever blocktrades charges to convert BitUSD to BTC.

Weren't you doing "theDEX"? Why don't you just make yours better? Learn from their mistakes?

Why would he?  He isn't running an exchange.  Maybe he owns Obits and has suggestions that will increase the value of his tokens.

And IIRC,  he just reserved the domain "theDEX" to help rebrand bitshares.  theDEX wasn't going to be a stand alone exchange built on top of bitshares like openledger.  It was going to be bitshares itself.

Yeah I was considering starting my own exchange about a year ago and do own the domain name thedex.org
Maybe I will one day, maybe I won't.
But as I'm not planning to imminently I'm happy to share my ideas of how to make openledger a exchange better.
I'm a BTS believer and investor so it's in my interests to see a successful OL.

I strongly disagree!
First of all, this is Bitshares Wallet and openledger is one of the companies out there that emits its IOU,
there is no reason to be in any way favor

The bitshares blockchain will never limit the trading of any tokens against any other tokens. bitshares.org/wallet is the bitshares wallet

But why would a company like openledger want to support another companies UIA. Like i said in my example Poloniex doesn't let you trade Bitstamp dollars.
