General Discussion / Re: Marketing Bounties to Spread Awareness

Of course there would be bullion sellers offering to give you one gramm of gold for an amount of BitGold worth one gramm of gold (less a margin) - but this seems trivial, a bit like this: http://www.nofiatcoin.com

That's what I was thinking.. a bullion seller could offer 1oz worth of physical for 1oz worth of BitGold.  It may not be so trivial because sellers could charge a premium for physical and earn money on the premium.  This actually might be enticing because it enables sellers to maintain their position in gold without having to convert to another currency.  If a seller sold physical for BTC then they'd lose their gold position and gain a BTC (or USD) position which may not be desirable.

Did we ever figure out how the MultiBit wallet will function for receiving AGS?  I'll definitely be needing it!   8)

+1

BUMP.  Any news on the MultiBit wallet?

I dont think peter schiff would like bitshares because it is not backed by physical gold. If you break down his desire for a crypto currency backed by gold it comes down to a digital bearer bond (colored coin) for gold...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like it'd be very easy to back BitGold with physical gold.  All it would take is a single seller of bullion to recognize Bitshares X as a legitimate banking institution and BitGold could be redeemed for physical metal at their establishment.  It would actually work in a similar manner as the ETF PHYS except it would be even more liquid since PHYS requires a very sizable amount in order to take delivery.  Or am I missing something?

The problem we face is that almost no one understands what we are doing here.

After Bitshares XT launches and it's time to market, it might be a good idea to reach out to financial commentators that have been vocal in their support for asset-backed crytos.  I know their views can be controversial; however, individuals like Peter Schiff (and to a lesser extent Reggie Middleton) have a large media reach and could probably simplify and explain Bitshares in a way that others can easily understand.  Schiff has been negative and ignorant on Bitcoin but I honestly think he'd be fascinated and supportive of a BitGold and BitUSD DAC.
Bytemaster, after seeing your recent debate I think you'd do well explaining Bitshares to someone (like Schiff) that's actually knowledgeable in business, finance, and economics.  I think the problem lies in that the majority of people don't understand these concepts at a fundamental level.

BitShares AGS / Re: The real difference between AGS and PTS
« on: January 25, 2014, 05:41:10 pm »
As a PTS holder I am seriously peeved at the raw deal I3 gave us.

Can you explain?  I thought PTS was more valuable now because rather than receiving 10% of the DAC the PTS shares now receive 50%.. is that inaccurate?

AGS kind of ended up pegging PTS value. People are now selling PTS for AGS.

That doesn't explain how I3 gave us a "raw deal" though.  PTS gets 5x more BTS than originally promised now so even if the nominal value falls you're still ahead in terms of BTS.  And if you're upset about that, why don't you just liquidate your PTS for AGS like everyone else?

Perhaps I haven't done enough research but it seems that PTS is a better deal right now.  Rather than getting a 1:1 like before, now PTS is getting 5:1 (BTS/PTS) while still maintaining a position in future DACs while AGS gets ~5:1 with no position.  Sure, you can roll the dice bidding for a few more BTS by investing in AGS... but at the current rate most PTS will be frozen in the AGS account in a couple of months.. meaning the opportunity to to bid using PTS will be far greater in the future.  So the value of PTS will increase while the price may decrease...
Am I wrong on this?   :-\

Keyhotee / Re: Connecting Keyhotee and Protoshares
« on: January 14, 2014, 10:42:48 pm »
N00b here.

I understand that Keyhotee is an application and not a currency but how will I get a KeyhoteeID?  Will the software allow me to mine the ID?  Or will I simply receive Nameshares when the DAC is released which can be used as an ID?

That worked!  I'm seeing active connections and its loading the blockchain.  Thank you so much!

We're getting closer!
The client opened but it's not loading the blockchain.  It says "No block source available" in the lower left and shows no active connections on the network in the lower left.

I found two possible fixes online.

One is to try running the client with -reindex
The other is described here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=154516.msg1665186#msg1665186
But I'm not sure what script he's referring to

How do I run the client with -reindex?  What's that mean?
I'm a n00b so this is quite confusing.

I get the same "ProtoShares-Qt quit unexpectedly" alert prompt followed by the following displayed in the terminal:
Quote

Abort trap: 6
