Title: Updates From Adam
Post by: ak on December 16, 2014, 03:57:08 am
Hey Guys,

Sorry that I haven’t been active on the forums over the past few weeks.

My team and I have been heads down, aggressively preparing for our recent demo out in CA. We had an awesome week out in California, meeting with legislators regarding our BitShares based voting system and networking with voting registrars and officials alike. Our demo went extremely well. We met some serious resistance from established players in the industry, confirming that implementing our voting solution in legitimate elections is a long term play. The good news is that we definitely made a splash and are continuing to attract all sorts of attention.

Now that crunch time is over, we are really excited to shift our focus to helping BitShares improve all aspects of our marketing, particularly with respect to our online presence and user acquisition methods. I’m an experienced internet marketer with Will as my padawan in training (don’t worry, he actually has a degree in marketing). We’d like nothing more than to work with the community to establish short term priorities and coordinate to avoid duplication of our efforts.

I’ll be actively watching this thread for your feedback and hope to get caught up to speed quickly.

I'd suggest short term priorities are to get BTS known as widely as possible; and talk up bitUSD and other bit-assets that are available already. Future DACs are for later. If BitShares can establish itself as the dominate asset market, then it will prevent others stealing our thunder. On the back of an established and sizeable asset market, other DACs will become easier to sell. The hard work marketing is needed now, getting traction before BitShares is just one among many. If bitUSD and others like bitGBP and bitCAD are not there in time, then central banks might opt to do something themselves that could compromise those markets.

I suggested yesterday engaging BTT - having forum here is all very well and this one does work but too many forums become circlejerks that noone else gets to appreciate. The market cap suggests something is working but we need to avoid complacency. I see no surprises from the voting presentation - an idea is all very well but bedding it down and becoming the biggest consensus out there, is all about convincing more people to engage with BitShares. Marketing needs a big voice - which is why there is disappointment with the official marketing team.. noone can hear them scream.

I've started a BitShares News thread on bitcointalk:

I'll keep posting regular updates in it using http://www.scoop.it/t/aboubts.

It's possible in SMF to have a forum category be an external link. Peershares does that.. see [Official Peercoin Thread on BitcoinTalk.org (External Link)] link on http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php#c2

Perhaps we could have the same, make boundaries porous and draw people both ways.

Nice work, matt. My opinion to fellow BTSers, please don't clutter the thread with '+5%', 'this' etc, even though your intentions are great.

I have been making the odd post in threads which go like 'Which shows promise', 'what did you invest in'... I don't do much as I am usually alone and would get mobbed if I am more aggressive.

Nice idea.  I'll get started writing a post for a big official BitShares thread, which to my surprise doesn't seem to already exist on bitcointalk.  Aiming to have it up by this time tomorrow, then we can ask for it to be linked to directly from this forum.

Will has plans to create a youtube video that will feature clips from the actual presentation/demo we did in California and pictures taken before during and after the event. I'm traveling this week with family. I'm actually tethering through my cell phone right now, working as we drive through the mountains of West Virginia. When I get back in the office, I plan to fire up the software and create a youtube slideshow video of my own, narrating the presentation that I gave prior to the demo that will segue into a live demo of the software, which I will narrate as well. We plan to use both youtube videos for marketing purposes.

Did you guys just crash the workshop? I didn't see you on the tentative schedule laid out by CACEO?

How do you plan to curb CalVoter/VoteCal initiatives?

Which Ca legislators were there? Were there any State Senators or Assembly members you came in contact with? And which ones?

Adam, you're approved on the main Google marketing list.  I use hpenvy or my twitter which is Bitcoinboost.

Tough questions indeed. I am curious too as I know a lot of people at the CA state Capitol.

In speaking with some folks at the conference, it seems the VoteCal project is about 75% done and the Secretary of State's office is determined to push through to completion. Thus, we have no plans to stand in their way. But, from what I understand, it's been a costly project and exhaustive process to get to this point. With this in mind, one thing we can do is focus on developing a superior product, rendering their solution obsolete, and make a push adoption. If all else fails, there may be an integration opportunity.

We were registered as an official exhibitor for CACEO's Joint New Law Workshop and Seminar. We've posted a couple of photos to our Facebook page of us at our booth, with many more pics to come. Staying true to our nonpartisan roots, we met with representatives for State Assembly members from both sides of the isle, while we were there. We also had dinner with a key county registrar in CA and spoke at length with few folks with close ties to the Secretary of State's office.

I won't be mentioning elected officials that we've connected with by name here on the forums; but, if you would like to discuss over a Skype call, I will disclose more details if deemed appropriate. However, anyone that has paid close attention to our social media profiles will see that we've been working day and night to make connections in all levels of government (including Governors, Congressmen and US Senators from multiple states) to secure support for what we are doing.

We've gained tremendous exposure and praise for our project since becoming CAVO's only corporate member. Although BTS is our top priority at present, we will continue explore opportunities in CA and other key states that express interest down the road.

Might there be some small third world country, perhaps an island, which BitShares could acquire (I didn't mean that), which might have less in the way of bureaucratic hoops and more in the way of truly wanting to save money on an election? No dictators with pre-marked ballots, but if a nation that has relatively fair elections + Internet access was carefully chosen, it could be a huge PR deal. Remember how big AuroraCoin was for a few weeks there, permeating even the popular media that wasn't interested in Bitcoin? This could be bigger if it struck the right chords.
