Clones can do DPOS stunts that BitShares cannot. Encouragement to consensus-honoring clones is repaid a thousand times over in promotion, diversity of outreach and opportunities for Delegates.
This is why I favor the clone sharedrop on POW coins (darkshares, liteshares, etc..) over the strategy of using bts inflation to override btc mining pools. The cloning, if done by the community (and thus guaranteeing social consensus), diversifies all our investment portfolios, forces a discussion in sharedropped communities of the benefits of DPOS as a protocol over Proof of Waste, and works to leverage behavioral heuristics to reinforce these benefits in a cognitive schema that frames DPOS and the social consensus as the "Standard" in crypto.
If you look at the resilience of other algos to change...even in the presence of far superior protocols, you will find that they retain a large network effect PRESICELY for these same reasons.
