Possible dumb question.. Trying to register at the faucet, I get this:

We were unable to register account 'kencode' - { "message": "Assert Exception (10)\nbase58str.substr( 0, prefix_len ) == prefix: \n", "detail": "10 assert_exception: Assert Exception\nbase58str.substr( 0, prefix_len ) == prefix: \n {\"base58str\":\"1A0499F885706D41559650D832FBB0E291EA53A1\"}\n th_a types.cpp:31 public_key_type", "code": 10 }

Is that err saying my pgp fp is not correct? i entered the shorter 64-bit version too, just in case. no go.
Thanx :)

try this in your wallet:

go to the console button
type in:
wallet_get_account_public_address yourusername

(yourusername as in your username :P)
it should pump out a public key address
that should be what the site wants
Title: Having difficulty registering?
Post by: futurist on January 18, 2015, 09:06:57 am
Hello, still trying to get this rolling. I launched the Bitshares client on my Mac, pasted my username and key into the faucet, used my reddit account to validate it, then was taken to the "congrats" screen that suggested I post something via twitter or facebook, "to add funds." ? I didn't do either, and simply went back into the client on my computer. But it still says that my account is not registered with the blockchain?  :( Is there a delay or did I miss something?

Thanks.

You can use the faucet directly from the account registration prompt in the client. Can you try doing it again that way to see if it registers you?

I'm seeing that I cannot redo the registration because I am already registered, however that's not the what I see in my Bitshares client.

What are you seeing in the client? Try right-clicking and selecting refresh when on your account page.

So does this mean I cannot use the faucet if I do not own a wallet? I use Cryptsy to buy my Bitshares. Do I still need to set up a wallet? I do not own a computer I trust well enough to install a wallet. I do my crypto purchasing on my lunch break at work.

Oops. I just noticed I bought BitShares PTS and not BTS. I am not having luck finding a way to own BTS without getting a BTS wallet. Any help?

You can hold BTS on an exchange like bter.com

Hello... excited to be part of the community!

Just downloaded v0.6.1 and installed on Windows.  Went to the faucet site and registered via Facebook and was authenticated, but I did not get registered to the blockchain.  Also the faucet website didn't display well for me on Firefox... it only flashed the various identity providers before disappearing so I had to click to register again and quickly click on the Facebook login button to finally authenticate...

Re-tried to register for the faucet and it says I'm already registered.... but didn't receive the 0.5BTS

Anyways.. just wondering if anyone can give me any guidance... thank you...

Hey, welcome to the forums.

Have you read Max Wright's e-book called Bishares101? If not, you would probably find it very helpful for your learning process. It is available at Amazon or at http://cryptofresh.com/ in English, Russian, Spanish, Korean and very soon Greek and Italian.

I opened my first BTS wallet a couple of months ago and have had a horrible time trying to get it registered.  I had to lead alot of BTS at BTER because I could not tranfer to wallet.  I just updated to version 6.1 and notice in the lower right corner that I have not synched blocks for 202 days???  Why did I not get an up to date synching of my wallet when I first loaded and why has it not been synching up to this point.  Hopefully this will resolve my registration problems as I know the names are registered but not at my wallet.
PS  does anyone know if I will able to ever get my BTS from BTER - no information from them on their site.  Very frustrating experience which I partly put down to my age and lack of technological knowledge.  However I am very excited about the future of crypto business and will push on.

Follow up post.  I am synching but I have 112 days of synching left to do.  I am at block 672201 of 1909301 blocks.  At this rate it will take many days.
Do I have to synch all blocks or can I just synch the later ones?
Thanks

The update to 0.6.0/0.6.1 (and 0.6.2) BitShares client replays the blockchain: it shows the 'completed percentage'. Usually takes an hour with 8GB of RAM and midrange CPU.

Strange that you need to sync it again. Let it sync the blockchain.
I my case it takes an hour or two.

Lets hope we get our coins from bter. No updates here either.

James,

Any luck with getting your wallet synced up and running?

The situation with BTER is looking as though it will be resolved imminently, fingers crossed!

You'll find the latest on the BTER situation here:

Hey All. Just opened an account and registered on the blockchain today.  I see myself on the blockchain, however in the dashboard I'm not getting the "registered" confirmation. I'm probably missing something obvious, but any help is appreciated.

I also see the "Last block was synced" data at the bottom of the screen, is that related to my registration in anyway?

Thanks.

if you go into your account name on "Dashboard" you should see near your name if your account is registerd or not.

If you see your account name on the blockchain,
for example, looking it up on this website - http://bitsharesblocks.com/accounts

it means it is successfully registered.

If your BitShares client does not say so, it is likely that either the blockchain was not synchronized or the wallet did not scan the latest blocks for changes yet.

Give it some time or stop/start the client to catch up with the latest blocks.

The bottom of the GUI BitShares client shows the status of the your blockchain.

You can open the console in your gui client and try 'get_info' command: very helpful.

is there any problem with the faucet? it submit the registration successfully but the account is not registered yet.

not at http://bitsharesblocks.com/accounts nor  wallet_list_my_accounts command (100% synced)

tried to register at poloniex, it gave "502: Bad gateway" error in the ajax request.

is it supposed to be this hard to register a bitshares account name?

Yes, if you rest your mouse over the bottom right corner, it will show you how far along it is. The first time I synced up, it took like 4 hours or more, but now it starts up in about a minute. I've got a reeeeeeeally old computer though. Once it's synced, then all your balances, yield and transactions will show up.
Hope that helps a bit, if not, just let me know. We can skype too if you like (kenCode_de).

Hello, I'm new here...

Trying to register my account, but the faucet doesn't seem to be working:
Error "We were unable to register account ... - No rpc connection to BitShare toolkit"

Clicking on the BitShares Link on the top of the page gets me to the "Home" screen of the faucet.
At the bottom I read "Faucet Balance: 0.00 BTS".

Does anyone since when it has been down and what is necessary to fix it ? (by donating or is it just broken?)

Thanks.

Hi @Bitshares222 and Welcome :)
Have you tried to register your new account at https://bitshares.openledger.info ?

Since 2.0 just went live, maybe the old faucet is being upgraded right now or something, but I have heard really good things about the new OpenLedger site above... Let me know, I can send you some BTS to your public key if needed.

Having trouble registering an account. After going through the faucet and it saying I am registered, it says I am not registered in my wallet.
What to do?
Thanks
My public key: BTS57nA4XzHMJMeDD3q35dXyxxhRqxnGX7mFrTY8dK2w5HUVMWHQV
Thank you!

Hi Ray and Welcome!
I just sent you 10 BitShares.
Please let me know if they appear in your wallet (if you haven't totally synced your wallet, it might take a few hours the first time till it finishes.)
Let me know if you need anything at all, thanx :)
Cheerz,

Hello Ken... sorry for the delay in answering. That was a few months back, not being able to register an account. I do have an account set up and made some trades of peercoin for bitshares. I did not recieve the 10 bitshares you mentioned. My new account, rayzzz57, shows as activated and I have made trades under it, so it is working.

Thanks

Hi Ray, I'm so glad you got all setup. It's nice to see you using Shapeshift too (via the cryptofresh.com block explorer). Check out blocktrades.us and metaexchange.info as well. They are great Bridges into BTS. I use CCEDK.com for all my fiat transfers.

Anyway, if you need any help, I'm always around.
Prost from Munich! :)

Thanks Ken.

One more question. I had the earlier version wallet and did not have any transactions. It was empty. I downloaded the new wallet and traded peercoin for bitshares, so I have some now. I backed up the wallet and know that the password is still the same because I brought it over through .0.9.3c wallet, but did it carry over the same brainkey too? Do I have to back up another brainkey after downloading 2.0 wallet?

Thanks!

I would definitely jot down the new brainkey and keep it somewhere safe. Same thing goes for the wallet backup too, keep that bin file it creates on a usb stick or something. If you lose that stuff you lose it all so  just wanted to mention that too :)
