It seems there are many new people here on the forum lately. I would be very helpful and interesting to know....
1) how you found Bitshares
2) and what sparked your interest enough to begin posting on this forum.
In addition the the poll above, please make a quick comment that specifies your vote: which article, which youtube video etc. And what argument, attitude or Bitshares feature has triggered your interest.
Your help is much appreciated! :)
EDIT:
First result: Reddit isn't as important as we think it might be. Possible reason: Reddit/Bitcoin attracks a lot of people that know what they want anyway and seek for affirmation of their opinion (that Bitcoin is the holy grail).
EDIT 2: Coinmarketcap.com has been added as a voting option on June, 20th, 2015.

1) Research.
2) Wanting to learn more:)
Most juicy features for me are hedging and interest. If it all works as expected, it's a pretty good partial & viable alternative to a normal bank account. I could see myself getting paid in bitassets!

a truly revolutionary technology.....and bytemasters control and grace in face of all the criticism and FUD he faces
-
Somehow I happened to find Bytemaster's blog and it got my attention because there was lots of interesting and intelligent stuff. Especially his understanding of economics and incentives seemed to be way better than of many other altcoin devs.

I found Bitshares 101 book while searching for Bitcoin material on Amazon.com. I read it twice and really like the way Max communicates his point on Bitshares.tv.

The purposeful destruction of all that is good in the world brought me here.

It was Max from the Success Council (Bithares TV).
Thanks you Max
Edit: To make thing more complex. It was 'Above Average' Joe from http://survivallife.com/ that introduce me to Max which who introduce me to Bitshares.

Lol....funny stuff.
Anyways in terms of marketing? There were many touch points especially because I'm a pretty slow mover.. (don't they say it takes seven touches before a sale?)
-Probably reading Bytemaster's blog posts and watching his videos had the most impact on me (I'm a voluntaryist so his blog was extremely refreshing) This video was one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mwmlJICyRA (Any mention of Ron Paul is a bonus.. and Austrian economics too... so this appealed to me and will appeal to many in the liberty movement. I do think the blogs might be seen as a bit radical for the average person though)
-I watched the webinar last year, but the biggest hangup for me was that all the shares were distributed and I felt like I missed out.
-Max Wright's Bitshares.tv (funny I remember Max Wright's Success Council videos from a liberty forum a while back)
-Stan's blog about the history of Bitshares & reading bitsharestalk.org The activity & level of quality of this community is very good compared to other alt coins based on my experience.
The main feature I was attracted to was bitGold & bitUSD. I think removing volatility is a huge innovation and doing so without counterparty risk. A lot of the solutions in the alt-coin and crypto scene used IOUs or a custodian, but the way bitShares is structured and the collateralization is huge. The comparison table Bytemaster shows about different types of dollars and how they compare with each other was also useful.
Anyways that's all I remember at the moment...

1: google and other things
2: i have three children; this is technology that might be common to them and i need to know how all of it works. Can't have em investing in snake oil.

THANKS to EVERYONE who shared his/her perspective here! All very insightful! Keep it coming! ;)

Welcome newbies!
Its a nice time to get it right now, better than those of us who found it in the past 6 months and lost money so far. ;)
Its good to see the outreach projects are working, and I hope some of you will become big Bitshares supporters!

I'm not sure about my co-workers but I was having a debate with a drunk about whether or not the US economy would collapse by 2017. During an attempt to ridicule me in front of everyone for buying bitcoin he misspoke and said, "you still buy that bit-shares don't you?!". I'd never heard of BitShares, and neither had he, so I laughed and said, "you mean BitCOIN" and he acknowledged his error with a "whatever". Later that night I decided to do a search for bitshares just to see if something called "bitshares" existed. I immediately purchased some after reviewing. So I have a drunk to thank for getting me into BitShares!

lol Tuck, that's pretty epic:)
-
huh, just saw this thread.
Taulant at http://Moonstone.io told me about BitShares.

I've been a cryptocoin enthusiast for a few yrs now; mining, trading and so on.
Was researching some mining stuff, got interested in x11, found minebitshares pool while reading some threads and that pointed me to bitshares in general.
And I liked the idea :)

Thanks :)
I think I'll stick around. Am seriously interested how will the whole idea/project turn out (no scepticism intended).

As for me it is a friend of mine who introduced me to BitShares, and then got so involved and interested in the concept that we developed and created www.bitsharesfcx.com ;)

+5% great story!
I don't know anymore. I was trying to mine PTS on ypool or so and later invested in AGS.
edit:
wow i just read my first post. It was really about PTS mining, and then investing in AGS or PTS.

i got interested because of the bitassets likes bitUSD, bitCNY. I would like to check out how they work out, but I cant even get my BTS windows client run properly :'(
-
I'm just starting out in Finance academia and believe this is the future. I've been into BTC and alt crypto for a few years now, took my time to better understand BTS and tinker with the system, but now I'm on board...will be building my position in the DAC and helping the community as best I can. On that note, anyone know of any good data sources for potential research? I'd like to spread the word in academia...

I'm not sure if this is the type of thing you mean but Bytemaster's blog explains a lot of the reasons why BitShares should be better than the competition

Cool, thx @Permie ...good article btw.
I'm always on the hunt for new data...BTS and bitassets haven't yet really hit the merchant scene (BTC is still a baby in that arena too), but what about data aggregator sites for BTS or bitasset trades? like price/volume stuff?

I found out about bitshares while talking w a friend about how services built on top of the Blockchain (colored coins at the time) we're going to change everything. I think bitshares is going to have a huge impact and am looking forward to being a part of the community :).

Sounds like an interesting intro! You are warmly welcome!
we're going to change everything
Do you mean "will go to change everything" or do you (plural) plan to change everything? :)

coinmarketcap.com :)
same here...coinmarketcap is generally what tips me off to new crypto, then i dig in on my own.

Initially looked for explanation of how Bitcoin works this (http://www.michaelnielsen.org/ddi/how-the-bitcoin-protocol-actually-works/) is by far the best I found BTW. Amazon books search found Max's Bitshares 101 which really got me interested in the concept and then to here..

I think it was Madbitcoins sometime in 2013

For me the Asset option, and the daily transaction bitshares had on CMC.
