Yep! Good point! BM shall not scatter at intervals this kind of "uncertain" ideas which impact greatly the market. Contrarily, the quality of wallet needs improving well.

Focusing all efforts on a single blockchain will allow them to solve the core issues.

Random delegates that do not have the community's trust will never get any inflation budget. The delegates with a budget will be prominent community members with broad support. If you look at bitcoin right now, there's a couple of developers who are all respected by the community: jgarzik, gavin, gmaxwell, etc. it would be these kind of prominent developers that can just be hired by the blockchain directly, instead of having to be on the payroll at random companies.

There will be no inflation of bitassets. Inflation of bitshares will ONLY be used in profitable ways that generate a return significantly higher than what has been spend. Think of it as Facebook issuing stock to acquire Oculus, because they know that the two companies will be a lot stronger together in the future, than apart.

With inflation we will be able to fund exponential growth in development and marketing avenues. If a delegate is ever discovered to inflate for no reason and just runs off with the money, he will be instantly kicked out.

General Discussion / Re: Main reason of FUD from Chinese Community

We talked about this on the mumble session. I think it is a bad idea of BM to reveal any information on these forums from now on, it could be taken negatively like this time around as well. It will work a lot better to do it in mumble so all the panic questions can be answered right away.

While I'm also slightly confused why there has been nothing to show for Brians apparent several months of full time work, it's important to note that there simply is not a finished product to sell right now. It would be useless to go after small amounts of users at this time, what we need is a launch pad for when the full product, BTS is ready for mainstream(ish) users to come flooding in. Anyway, the kind of skillset it takes to double 28 new users/day to 52 new users/day is vastly different from the skillset it takes to double 2k new users/day to 4k new users/day, so having someone who is good at the former wouldn't really make much sense.

Wow. I am sure glad all 23 of you came to a consensus for the rest of the community.

How about a detailed plot of what is to happen regarding share stake percentages in already snapshot DAC's, how the new DAC's will fit into the ecosystem, what do AGS get, what do PTS get, how will dilution be voted on(since I3 controls a majority stake) and what circumstance will allow dilution, are the other Devs (Toast, Vikram etc.) on board.......

Numbers matter more than hopeful thoughts.

Sorry, in hindsight the title of this post isn't that great. The point is that we all went into it with bad feelings about the whole thing, many people were completely against the proposal and completely against any share dilution. We were as scared/confused/panicky as this entire forum was for the entire day. And then BM basically explained everything clearly and consicely and we ended up all changing our minds. 23 negative skeptics went in to the mumble server, when we were done not a SINGLE person felt negative about it at all, and many of us were talking afterwards about how exciting it is.

If you're a scared or confused investor who don't know what to make of all this, I HIGHLY recommend listening to the mumble recording. I think all your concerns will be met, and you will be satisfied.

that can be changed.  just recognize newmine is here with "mine" in his name.  he is obviously showing a pow bias before he even speaks.    those who wanted to attend, attended.  to act like it was a net negative...is kind of insane.  just look at the charts before, during and after the speech.

He's obviously interested enough in DPOS to make an account and post on this forum. Yeah, I guess there's a chance he's an evil PoW shill coming to spread FUD, but even with that possibility the best strategy is always to be polite to anyone here, especially newcomers. There is really no point to scare anyone off - if someone is a troll or a spammer it should be handled through the standard channels of forum moderation. Sorry for the rant I'm just tired of the tribal attitude that is growing on this forum, I think it hurts adoption.

Guys I realize the idea of dilution is kinda scary at first sight, but once you think it through and approach it from the right context, which is the COMPANY, then it makes perfect sense.

Imagine 2 facebooks competing for world social media domination. One of them can issue shares to acquire other startups such as Whatsapp and Oculus, and also issue shares to VC companies that help them kickstart growth. The other has a fixed amount of shares because shareholders dont want to be diluted.

Which company would you rather be a shareholder in? Would you even consider investing in a facebook that could not issue new shares in situations where it would be beneficial? Taking over world finance isn't that much different than taking over world social media, because of the massive network effect involved. Share issuance is an absolute must in the competition we are about to see ramp up, and we are the first DAC that will actually manage to implement it. We will not even have a real competitior until a different blockchains realizes that share issuance is basically a requirement to be competitive.

PTS will be rewarded with more BTS. I'm sure dan will come up with a fair solution, that people will accept. Overall this plan is absolutely great for anyone with a stake in anything. Even if your allocation isn't totally fair, it will be such a massive boost in the long run. Seriously, the BTS superDAC is going to be so absurdly powerful, it will blow everything else we've seen out of the water.

General Discussion / Re: will there still be mkting push?
« on: October 20, 2014, 01:21:59 am »
The marketing push will come once the product is ready. This final crisis signals the end of a phase where the community still hadn't fully decided what bitshares would end up becoming. It is now clear what bitshares will be, and I imagine that "launch pad" preparations for the marketing push will be made over october and november, with the push beginning maybe in December.

Tbh I do think we, as a community, should demand greater transparency regarding the marketing push. At least shareholders ought to now how many guys are currently hired, and what their salaries are.

While initially being very supportive of the bootstrap-bitusd-through-OB idea, due to recent developments and the merging of all DACs, I think it's better to focus on core development of bitshares, and then wait and see what OB turns out to be. If it turns out to be a massive hit, then we can spend our own resources on integrating bitUSD, and the issue shares to airdrop bitUSD on the OB userbase. If itsn't that quick to gain traction, we could instead choose the most promising devs it has and hire them to create our own bazaar system powered by bitshares.

It could run with bitcoin, bitUSD and BTS ensuring the bitcoiners will not go crazy and attack us for "stealing" their developers, since the improved bazaar would still have bitcoin integration. The added benefits that a DAC gives the bazaar system will likely make it grow incredibly fast, we could even issue BTS to pay for real world advertising for the initial sellers on the system, to help kickstart adoption. If bitcoiners saw first hand just how much bitshares is able to contribute positively to decentralized systems, and in this case even contribute to bitcoins utility, they will probably have an easier time getting over always attacking altcoins and bitshares.

General Discussion / Re: Proposal to Resolve a Million Issues at Once
« on: October 20, 2014, 01:09:40 am »
Honestly I would rather there be competition than to have one central DAC where all risk is centralized there. I just don't understand why these ideas are any good.

If you want to compete you and anybody else are absolutely free to fork the BitShares toolkit and do anything. But don't expect Dan and I3 to divert resources supporting the competition.

The point of this proposal is to allow the team to focus their attention on one DAC during this early growth stage and take advantage of Metcalfe's law.

Why not hire more developers as was planned but wasn't followed through with? I would stay away from any dilution as it is a sensitive topic and threshold for which investors in this space watch like a hawk.. that is why the Chinese dumped at the mere proposal of it... so the only other option is to merge without dilution, which may be too deflationary (or not?)... but if you keep things separate.. and have problems down the road with one of them its isolated... and another thing is to hire more devs to concentrate on the individual chains and have BM oversee them all... this way we can have reports of each project and decide which one to concentrate on if any, or work on new r&d to develop further, and the rest of the devs become sustaining engineers fixing bugs or applying concepts already specced out.

My understanding its that BTSX does not have the financing to do it right (execute the full plan) without a capital infusion.  Of course all capital infusions should more than pay for themselves so the funding must be discussed and put to a vote.

It's not a question of whether we can do something useful with the funds available.
It's the rate at which we can grow the network effect.
Going slow to stretch the resources is possible.  It is also fatal.
Look around the industry.  We are in a race.
This is how serious companies win races.

Being the only cryptocurrency that has the ability to allocate capital for marketing and development purposes is going to be such an insane competitive advantage once things starts to ramp up.

Imagine if two real world companies were competing to capture a market, such as social media. One of them is able to issue new shares (including to VC's), and one of them is not. It will not even be a competition, it will be steam rolling.

I'd been doubting if we would be able to actually kill bitcoin, but if our community embraces share issuance then we will completely gobble it up. I fantasize about the day we can hire Gavin and gmaxwell and others as delegate-developers. Will be amazing.

I step away for one day! Sucks that I missed the impromtu Mumble. Thanks for posting the audio.

I didn't see agent86 chime in, did I miss it in the last 20 pages of posts?

This topic was presented as a proposal but it's one that's being pushed pretty hard by BM and Stan. Is it still a proposal?

It has my vote for whatever that is worth. I like the idea of I3 working on one DAC. One blockchain. One product to market. One technology to explain to folks.

The buyout of PTS/AGS is a one time pain point from a PR and investor relations perspective but the rewards will be on going.

When I worked for IBM we found that it would take us three months to change the design of the box we shipped a product in. Clearly I3 under Stan and Dan's leadership do not have that issue.

It's still a proposal in the sense that stakeholders will ultimately have the authority to decide whether it gets implemented or not, either by voting for delegates, or by a system that is made specifically for voting on hard forks that BM outlined in another thread.

Lol - Do they mention how they put USD in a wallet by any chance ?
It's just like Coinapults Locks but the owners can't run off with the funds and they can't be ceased, etc.

Even though they cant run off with the funds unilaterally, they can still conspire with users, or just create fake users themselves that takes up massive positions and then assign the entire multisig balance to themselves. As the service grows, the payoff for this one-off heist would also grow. Should the owners run into trouble somehow, or simply get bored with it, they might be incentivized to just take the money and hide. I don't think it will be possible to make the system entirely trustless.

One of the main reasons a unified DAC is so great is that there are many synergies amongst the different DAC functionalities. e.g. the DNS dac can support the bazaar dac, which support the exchange dac. Implementing all three things in the same client will greatly increase user experience and reduce transaction costs and spread.

The Bazaar DAC?

It's just a concept of a future DAC which functionality would be sort of like OB, but where sellers can outsource the running of their store servers to nodes, so they dont have to deal with all the technical stuff unless they want to.

Not sure it will actually become a reality, definitely depends on whether OB takes off like a rocket or not. If it runs into issues, such as lack of user friendliness, then we could launch our own competing system to capture the market.
