General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion
« on: September 03, 2015, 07:01:59 am »
As you guys know, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that we have with BTS.
Tuesday morning on Wall Street is going to be messy I think.

If you have 50K BTS and the price explodes to $1.00, what will you do?
Start trading into bitGOLD? NOTE? ...bitUSD? ???
Securing gains when we know fiats are crashing hard steers me away from bitUSD, bitEUR, etc.

We know the gold pm has been suppressed for decades so trading into bitGOLD on the bts price increase makes sense to me.
Cryptosmith bit the dust, and I live in europe anyways, so getting any kind of physical delivery is out.
I guess I could cash some out into fiat and go get a berkey and some cases of mre's at the surplus store.

Seriously though, what are some good options for action during each BTS price pop?
Just hold bts through and through

Technical Support / Re: shorted bitUSD, BTS stuck in collateral
« on: September 03, 2015, 07:00:02 am »
Hmm shows empty..

Interesting though I ran wallet_regenerate_keys ACCOUNT-NAME 10500 and rescan after that.. Firstly rescan fails about 8% in everytime unless I delete my data folder and reimport from scratch.

Secondly now my balance is showing as if my bts is now free but listtransactions doesn't show anything about it.

Infact listtransactions shows no market orders but just the txs that were sent to me or I sent out.. Running this on the cli... My pc wallet doesn't want to resync keeps failing to sync after a few hrs. Atleast I got my bts but really annoying hopefully next version will be better..

Technical Support / shorted bitUSD, BTS stuck in collateral
« on: September 03, 2015, 04:05:14 am »
I shorted bitUSD with my BTS about 7 months ago and was in profit for a long time until price came back down recently. I had thought my short would resolve itself because orders were timestamped and mine would rise to the top of the stack because when I first shorted there was over 10 million BTS on the BID side of BTS/bitUSD and later when price rose there was less than 3.. but my order was not closed? Still it is not closed, how do I even check where my short is?

Now all my BTS I shorted with and collateral are all gone, with no indication of where they may be. Any help would be appreciated! thanks.

I really don't get it...Who on earth is selling BTS at these prices? How is that even possible..
I can partially understand selling btc due to the whole confusion with XT maybe but why whould someone sell BTS now? I mean even CNX never comes out how is it possible that BTS is valued so low? We have a working platform with various bitassets and yet BTS is falling..I simply don't get this..

It really is preservation of capital.

With the stock markets dropping 5-10% in a day and bitcoin losing 30% in a few weeks, people are preserving capital and exiting the risky "investments" because fear is high.

Couple that with the complete uncertainty of Cryptonomex future alignments, aka the bank talk, and you have a recipe for stagnation. Let's also not forget about all the broken promises, failed deadlines, unusable current product and hints of grandiose things that never came to. People are rightfully skeptical and price has definitely reflected that.

There really is no mystery why.  There have been other good ideas by companies who were better run that failed too. Timing, marketing, competition are all categories that could cause failure and Bitshares whatever is failing with all three and more.

You could've just said "typical software development".

What is very unfortunate about the small holders that have been spooked by people like you (especially you) is that most of them have most probably never been involved in a software development project before and don't understand that these kind of delays are not only completely normal, but should be expected and planned for.

Pro tip: If any software developer promises delivery in 2 months, expect 4. 8 months? Expect 16.
Add extra cushion for degree of difficulty.

How many crypto decentralized exchanges had been built before Bitshares?
Yeah.

What's more interesting about Bitshares is that there actually exists a functioning client and blockchain that has been operating for over a year (with a functioning GUI  :o !!!) - and is about to release with a rewritten, more functional and streamlined version within the next 2-3 months (any somewhat experienced investor should not flinch if it were to take longer). The funny thing here is that you are probably the single most responsible one here at shaking out the weak hands (ie - making the poor, poorer and the rich, richer)

But keep at it, by all means - Mr. Numine - you have certainly helped people like me obtain far more BTS than I would have thought possible last year at this time. What you have been doing might be very good for you and the people that can easily see through you, but you are hurting those that can't - and you know what you are doing.

I just can't believe so many here let you slide with it until now.

It's one thing to take advantage of personal knowledge for personal gain - it's completely different to bait those lacking knowledge with FUD.

Monty

 ;)
I think in amateur software yes but after you are experienced an estimate gets better.

General Discussion / Re: Bottom of Bitcoin fall

i think litecoin is headed under $1.. so puts btc at about $180-$230 IMO since bitcoin will draw in more money as it gets below $200.

Limit down on S&P @ 1860 was hit so risk was 0 and reward was unlimited.. fake market. Buy there with 0 risk was a no brainer. Some ppl probably made hundred of millions today.

Btc38 looks like some group is offloading.. Probably whoever pumped it last few days.. The 2 million sell was probably the leader.

295
you sold your notes yet you want to know where they are?

296
Just do opposite of what ppl say

Half the people have been saying back to ipo price and other half have been saying its going to $1000.  :P
Then it will be somewhere in between :)

I can turn cryptosmith back on but we need an owner

You also need heavy metal, or the website is pointless.
It can be dropshipped you don't need the metal.. In fact my plugin emails the vendor that an order was placed so they can prepare to ship goods to customer on your behalf.

Looking forward to seeing what happens as soon as people can get their ETH on exchanges and dump.  Pricing it at 10x the IPO price in this era of depressed crypto prices is insanity.

I'll buy later if it falls below IPO and stabilizes.

I haven't paid much attention and wasn't aware it was priced that off target.. not surprised.

Ethereum 24hr change down 70% atm http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum/#markets and I wouldn't be surprised to see it fall a long way more, to below BitShares1.0 where it belongs.

There's no surprise seeing a dump at the open as that is normal, satisfying the substantial minority of speculators who become frustrated. Compounded with that what Ethereum is offering is underdeveloped, I'm not surprised that it's burning and glad that this is the one project I did not invest in.

Ethereum is ambitious to say the least and already there are alarming bugs that those claiming their ETH on Windohs could lose that into null addresses. I wonder then if there are others who are upgrading past that bug and getting out. There's a long way to go before I will buy in.. it's a fragile as Bitcoin in 2010 when I first saw that.. give Ethereum a year to bed down and prove itself.. and then I expect CounterParty will have made it available on BTC blockchain. Why Ethereum went the route of creating a new chain, I don't know.. it just added the wiff of altcoin.

Hopefully BitShares will take note and understand that smart investment follows real demonstrable utility.. BitShares2.0 will need to deliver more than hype and speculative opportunity.. and communicate that in an academic way, not just in marketing speak.
Also ciyam is available and being integrated into a Bitcoin based chain which will certainly eat away at their market cap.. If I do it right.. Perhaps bitshares can then integrate and we can then have cross chain transfers between btc based coins with a real tie in to the uia of those coins. Then ultimately if the model is solid maybe one day Bitcoin can endorse the use of turing complete scripts on their chain and we would leverage that.
