let's integrate chat into the forum, makes real time communication easy for tech support and bounties.

Just use IRC. Everyone does. http://de.irc2go.com/webchat/?net=freenode&room=bitshares&nick=asdf1337

i know, some of use even use skype to chat with others or hangouts, but my point is, why not integrate it here.

Everyone uses IRC? with this attitude the community will grow slowly indeed.

I agree, native support for chat on the forums would be very helpful for everyone who is logged in.
That said, the down side to chat is that the conversation is lost and not available for future users.
On the other side, interactivity may draw more people in and encourage them to hang out....
Amazon gets to make this call, his job is growing the forum :)

Yes, I have been working on a multi-channel chatroom, so the different interests of chat can be classified instead of a simple shoutbox.

the chat logs will be stored in database for a period of time for late users to check.

And whats the difference between this and the IRC webchat?
The only difference is that you can not connect with an IRC client and its yet another open window :/

Personally I just reacted against the isolated "everyone uses IRC" quip. I see now you meant it primarily with regard to chats on websites? The only important thing as I see it is that the chat is well integrated with the site and newb friendly. Luv your nick btw.

Just easier for users to find the chat place, and the user name is forbidden to change here. So I think no conflict with IRC.
