Openledger / Re: No support ?
« on: February 07, 2016, 07:11:20 pm »
The openledger gateway is back up. It was down from approx 11:59pm till 10:00am EST due to an error caused by new ether support. Unfortunately, it looks like this happened around the same time as some attractive order was available on the dex, and several people couldn't take advantage of the order as they weren't able to obtain additional OPENBTC during that time.
@dannotestein I think you mean CCEDK gateway? I don't find an "openledger gateway" in my light wallet. Was metaexchange or blocktrades down in the same period?
Sorry I was unclear, I meant the CCEDK gateway. Other gateways were up.
No problem. My apologize for disturbed you everywhere :)

I cannot locate the link.
Tried searching for it.
Is there any documentation or instructions on how to claim your BTS from earlier angelshares and protoshares?
So your issue has been solved in the stupid questions thread?

General Discussion / Re: Things I don't like about the committee
« on: February 07, 2016, 05:02:24 pm »
You are not supposed to "gather feedback" because you are not representing anybody's interests.
You are not supposed to do any "hard work". If hard work was needed for this position, it would have been a paid position.

surely a committee member represent at least a certain part of shareholder's benefits, otherwise he should be voted out.
surely committee need to gather feedback from community when committee is in the process of change something.
whether committee member should "work hard" is not a problem, but committee member really always need to put many time and energy on analysis and discussion.
Committee members don't need to work hard. When they're working hard, most likely they're acting as some kind of market research department of the DAC, which should be paid via worker proposal (I agree with jakub's opinion here).

However, currently, due to voting apathy, and the anti-dilution action, it's a waste of time to wait for approval of such a worker position.

Since we don't have such a market research department, stake holders should work hard to find best business model and/or pricing strategy. When a proposal is proposed, stake holders have to make decisions by themselves, have to judge whether the proposal is good by themselves, then vote. This is very hard and inefficient.

Currently, even nobody proposes committee proposals except the ones in committee, although everyone is allowed to propose committee proposals. The committee members can be lazy and vote for nothing, or vote randomly when a proposal is proposed, and let stake holders judge whom to support. But imo this will do nothing good to the ecosystem.

There have to be someone to work hard, otherwise the platform won't grow. We'd better not blame anyone who is currently working hard for the platform or is willing to work hard for the platform.

Example: I have now a user who signed up on OL, and forgot to create backup. Now he is chasing me to pay for his loss, as he cannot access anymore, and I do not agree I am the responsible for this, as this is lack of information on entry point of platform, and in a case like this I forward him to bitsharestalk to cry out his frustration, and there are similar situations like this every day.

According to the license (quoted below), the platform isn't responsible for the loss of fund in your example as well. Probably you're more likely responsible for it. But we can improve the platform together, right? If you have proper resources (devs), you can clone the source, and change it to what you like. After you've changed it, if you like to push your changes back to the "platform" repository, we (read: the stake holders, or the community) would appreciate your efforts.

Next time we can of course ask every shareholder to spend 5 days straight and find a good fee schedule .. would that make sense?

@xeroc ,

As I suggested in my previous posts, IMO if this task requires this much work, it should have gone through a worker proposal.

IMO in reality there are only a few values in the fee schedule that are politically sensitive.
These are:
- the flat transfer fee and AM/LTM price
- place/cancel order trading fee
There are hundreds of other fees but I don't even remember their values, which suggests that they do not really matter to me (and I guess most other users) as long as they are within some reasonable limits.

So whatever you are going to present next week, I'll look at those 4-5 numbers and I'll read the logical justification you offer for the new schedule.
If the justification offers a good explanation why those 4-5 numbers need to change, I'll accept the whole package.

So my question is this: why on earth couldn't we have started from the discussing justification first?
*Before* you and several other people needed to "spend 5 days straight" working on tweaking numbers, whose current value I don't even remember.
IMHO, we, the DAC, the BitShares platform, need an over all review of the whole fee schedule. I am saying this as if I am a stake holder.

Your personal opinion, no matter on a few fees or all fees, have nothing to do with my opinion. I do what I want, not what you want.

I have a committee member account, I vote for what I think is better. You have stake, you vote for the committee member who have same opinion with you. This is the game.

Saying anything as representative of the committee, or against the committee, is totally non sense, since the structure, the members in the committee can change every maintenance interval, or say every hour. The committee is totally unstable.

Can we stop arguing on this?

General Discussion / Re: Metatrader 4 and Bitshares

Any updates on the progress?

I don't think much has been done since the last post... I've been trying to drum up some interest again though.

The BTS community is stuck on this thought that fee's are the problem with adoption and market cap growth.  The fee's aren't the problem, the interface is.  I'm hoping that the blocktrades worker proposal can be redirected to creating an metatrader plugin.  They seem like the most able candidate to integrate bts and mt4.  I would even advocate doubling their pay to get this done if that's what it takes.
The Chinese bts community is stuck on fees.
They also complain about UI. However most of them have never used MT4 (even BM hasn't).
Its used worldwide, bm isnt a trader so he doesnt know

This is why cnx hasn't put this high on their priority list.  They are not traders and they don't see the low hanging fruit right in front of their faces.

Mt4 is the most popular trading platform in the world. Saying china doesn't use mt4 is another sweeping generalization that Chinese forum members seem to use all to often. There may be a cheaper option, but none will instantly open the door to millions of traders like an mt4 plugin and license would.
I was not saying that nobody uses MT4 in China. It's mostly used in Forex/Commodity Futures markets, and many people use it. However, afaik very rare discussion about MT4 in BitShares related QQ groups. Don't know why you say "Chinese forum members seem to use all to often", maybe I've misunderstood it.

Can you guys organize a professional PR team and marketing team, and make a plan, and execute according to the plan? Everyday some ideas show up and get buried after some days. Actions?

I understand your frustration at the ad hoc nature of these discussions and the seemingly arbitrary implementation or discarding of ideas. The problem is that there isn't a "you guys". Unless you mean the committee? Right now it's just a brainstorming thread IMHO.

Perhaps the proposal put forth for a vote can include a budget for a PR and Marketing team and the making of a plan. Since this is more of a semantic change anyway marketing is basically all this would be.
@abit IIRC @bunketchain-labs has had an idea for a PR worker ..
My opinion is always making actions first, if it's a right way, then consider worker or fund raise or something else. Just like what you did with you worker.

i am not sure if we want to do this, but i also don't like the discussions and threads about dilution.

but i think it would be wrong to add it on coinmarketcap. with the same agrument bitcoin could say we have to change the numbers also.

makes no sense to report the shares als "availabel" if you can not sell them. the same problem exists with the vesting shares.

The difference between Bitshares and Bitcoin here is that their supply is locked up with POW. They are unlocking them literally as fast as humanly possible. Our supply could be released tomorrow with enough votes.

i thought we have a limit of 400.000 BTS? or can this also be changed? if this is, i didnt have the right information and the available shares should be adjusted on CMC.
If enough share holders agree, we can easily change that 400K BTS per day limitation. Even possible a hard fork to change the 3.7BB limitation. IMO it's no need to discuss right now at all.

@ccedk @dannotestein @valzav Currently OpenLedger set "referrer_rewards_percentage" to 0% for new accounts who referred by nobody. It effectively causes 0% cash-back if the the account is upgraded to annual member. Please check. Maybe you need to temporarily disable the "upgrade to annual member" feature in your hosted wallet.

Today another account "dstnsn" is upgraded to annual member, and will be affected by this issue.
