General Discussion / Re: Earn 5% on your BitUSD Now with BitShares X
« on: August 15, 2014, 07:33:27 am »
The question remains is how much market demand is there for such an asset.

Obviously enormous in your opinion...

Yes, the demand should be enormous. The problem will be that there won't be much supply. :)

… did I understand that correctly, that there will be two BitUSDs? One with interest and one without?

I agree that 1 and 2 are bad choices.

I would like a variant of 3 similar to what dxtr and luckybit propose.
When there are more than 2e9 BTSX around a certain part (some hardwired formula in the range of up to 10 % maybe?) of the delegates' pay should be channeled off and destroyed - until total outstanding is 2 billion again.

If you believe that the price of BitUSD will track USD, then you can arbitrage between them. Making a profit by increasing the sum of your holdings in both. If everybody does enough people do this, then the price will track.

As long as you can't trade BitUSD directly for USD then you can still do this trade via intermediate stages like BitsharesX, or even via BitCoin and BitsharesX.

LottoShares / Re: Playing has started.... how about the earnings?

There are no dividends. Better think of it as a stock buyback where the company retires the purchased shares https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Share_repurchase

Still not on coinmarketcap.

The current spread implies a market cap of 4000 to 9400 BTC (2.4 to 5.5 million USD), which would make rank 14 to 23 on coinmarketcap.

But as riverhead said volume is negligible, that amount would make rank 200 on coinmarketcap.

Withdrawal limit on this page is back down to 5000 BTSX

It looks like they increased the withdrawal limit to 50 000 BTSX.

that's 10-20 million Bitcoin, right?  ;)

The price/value of a specific energy not only depends on location1) but for many2) types of energy also on time3).
How are you going to consider this in your energy hierarchy?

1) Compare the price of natural gas in the US and Japan or even just the pump price of petrol in metropolitan areas to remote rural areas.
2) Especially those not easily storeable: Electricity, Light, Heat
3) Have a look at any market traded energy carrier. Short term price fluctuations are largest with electricity spot prices which can vary by one order of magnitude in a day and even become negative.

Wouldn't the easiest fix be to lower the retarget interval from 4032 blocks down to somewhere like 100-300 blocks?

This might be an obvious question but what is Bitgold meant to be valued at, Troy ounce?

Yes, in all commodities we need to know what are the measures, or I guess they will be implied by the price?

The unit and seed 'idea' behind each asset is in the hands of the individuals who create and launch a chain.  I highly recommend they be a specific as possible so the market can operate as efficiently as possible.

BitShares PTS / Re: Hi everyone, Btc38 opened its english websites.

Is there any way to trade with you guys without having to have a Facebook or QQ account?

Given bids of 99, 98, 97, and 95.... to buy it all up in one go you enter an ask for 4@95.   You will receive 4*95=380 rather than 99+98+97 = 389 for a fee of '9'.    Obviously, if you attempted walk the book all the way down to 50, your fees are going to average 25%.

You would have to enter 4 asks in 4 different blocks to minimize your fees to just the 'fee per byte'.

I'm a bit confused. Why does this need four blocks?
What trades would be executed if four new asks (1@95, 1@97, 1@98 and 1@99) meet these existing bids at the same time? Only the first two??

Can the gold bar in your basement be unexpectedly replaced (without your consent) with an equivalent number of XTS?
This will not happen with BitGold. There are no margin calls on long positions.

(I'm impressed that none of the "interested" folks had to ask "WTF is a BitShare?")

:)

I don't think they knew, I think most didn't care. Something for nothing. Whatever-thing.
