So burning BTS on someone else's wall is a way to give them rep?  Interesting.  I had thought people only burn BTS on their own wall.

The objective is to achieve adoption and they are limited by their own chain so. I guess unless transaction speeds or some other big feature comes up, their "bitAssets" are condemned to fail since day 1. I don't like being so radical but honestly I just can't see any other possible outcome at the moment, with their chain specs and technology

Would this potential bitcoin hard fork change that?

Winners will:
1   Enable decentralized peer-to-peer systems that allow for very low cost, privacy and long term sustainability in exchange for less direct control of data
2   Prepare for highly efficient, real-time digital marketplaces built on physical assets and services with new measures of credit and risk
3   Design for meaningful user experiences, rather than try to build large ecosystems or complex network solutions.

These conclusions are for the IoT but still apply to us.  I'd say we are doing pretty well but not perfect.  Point 1 we've nailed completely apart from (at least some) delegates needing to be public.  Point 2, we are good on the 'front end' with the bitassets but less efficient in back end with delegate voting + hiring - it could be improved.  Point 3 I think we are good here but there is a risk of feature creep resulting in endless buggyness for a huge array of features.  Overall pretty good but improvements still to be made.

Losers will:
1   Continue to invest in and support high-cost infrastructure, and be unmindful of security and privacy that can lead to decades of balance sheet overhead
2   Fight for control of ecosystems and data, even when they have no measure of what its value will be
3   Attempt to build ecosystems but lose sight of the value created, probably slowing adoption and limiting the usage of their solutions.

Again good but room for improvement here too I'd say.  Cutting away from POW is a victory over high cost infrastructure in point 1 but the DPOS method is not yet proven either.  There could be ways to improve it.  Think we're ok for point 2 apart from the sharedrop squabbling.  There was no squabble over PLS so maybe their distribution is the magic formula to dispel disagreements.  Point 3 again to me hints at feature creep rather than consolidating on bitasset use.  I don't really think we're in danger of this yet but its something to keep an eye on.

Technical Support / Re: BitShares 0.4.27.1 - problems
« on: January 07, 2015, 11:23:16 am »
This issue can be fixed with a GUI update, but unfortunately most people are on 0.4.27.1 which means their client will crash with the new update format. Perhaps we can make a 0.4.27.3 release with this fix in it.
Would this fix this https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=12519.msg166051#msg166051 ?

Yep!
We could do something tricky like enable the update very briefly so that you could update and then disable it again, if you have a big enough stake to make the vote worthwhile.
That sounds like I would just have the problem?
Disable the update again, how would that work?

Not if you upgrade to 0.4.27.2
And it's simple, we put the update up, you update, we take it back down so nobody else sees an update.

Does 0.4.27.2 fix some of the problems I posted in the OP?  I have jobs lined up (translation of BitShares 101 into Spanish + more) and can't withdraw any delegate pay.  I'm paralysed without a working client.

General Discussion / Re: What's the status on bitcoin gateways?
« on: January 06, 2015, 10:46:05 pm »

The idea of having a manual gateway until we get a real one is actually quite appealing. Bitcoin transactions take 1 hour anyway so it won't have to be constantly monitored and executed.

If the client was working more smoothly I would seriously consider doing this.

Couldn't any of us become a BTC/bitBTC gateway?  There's no fiat involved.  One of us simply accepts BTC deposits, say directly to a btc38 or bter account.  Then buy up BTS with the deposit and withdraw it from the exchange asap for security reasons.  Then with BTS within the BitShares client, buy bitBTC, with the same amount of BTS purchased on the exchange.  Then send the bitBTC to the buyers account.  They just need to create a BitShares account and send BTC to the manually operated "gateway" and bitBTC will be send to their account.

The gateway could simply put up a bitcoin address on their wall within their BitShares account.

Don't think an IOU even needs to be issued...

you cannot steal IOUs or bitAssets from a gateway because the gateway has "superadmin" powers over their IOUs ON-THE-CHAIN(!!!) and processes the order books to bitassets ... so if someone manages to "steal" IOUs the gateway just freezes them or reverts them but simply does not process orders from that account ... thus the IOUs are stuck and worth nothing ...

furthermore the gateway knows exactly WHO owns HOW many IOUs and is the only instance that can process the orderbook to bitassets .. from that point on it's YOUR job to secure the funds ..

IMHO this is huge and most people don't get it!

Can't a gateways "superamin" powers be stolen?  Someone hacks the gateway's BTS account and sends themself everyone's IOU, then dumps them on the market and runs off with the loot.  Wouldn't it be safter if gateways didn't have superadmin powers, as those powers effecivly mean the IOUs are all held by the issuing gateway which is the same security risk they have today?

It's all working again now :)

I think,  we don't want to give each a on-line BTS trading exchange set up pay100% Delegate? This is a very stupid idea

Or again,  we will give every claim to promote BTS people set up pay100% Delegate? I saw a lot of fraud in the staged

We can form a kind of atmosphere, to establish pay100% Delegate, register and open you are going to do, when after your success or achievement, and then ask you to vote

Also, the BM community share voting right, should not easily use, after must wait for community voting ends, and then consider whether it is necessary to vote, and vote should have a half-life

I'm against almost all of the pay100% Delegate,  including BM

 :P :P :P

After their work is all done they can be voted out, or they can propose a new reason to keep the delegate.

Also this is a great example to show to other (bigger) gateways of how they can get integration funded with BTS.  Picture the big exchanges competing for (temporary) BitShares delegate spots, it's marketing gold.
