Just need to change the D and we've got something completely different!

Dispersed Anonymous Society - or Scattered Anonimous Consensus (DAC) for the OCDs.

Also, if someone can make it work in a sensible way, it could be everything bespoke, not just limited to one format.

Perhaps, even a dynamic location.. drone to my location for everyone deemed to not be a terrorist. ICBM coordinates+ any other random requirement - the blue parcel box, 3rd floor, just left of the cat.

Would be useful to include an option for DAC [coins *] =Meta | Protocol 2.0 coins, such as MSC; NXT; XCP; PTS and when they appear ETH; NEM
See an example of that selection exists at http://dacindex.com/

Keep it simple?..

Is the C of DAC, Corporation? I prefer Adam Levine's suggestion that it's Consensus.
I wonder it is the "Autonomous" AND "Consensus" that makes its potential to function as a Corporation?

"Distributed", "Autonomous" "Consensus"

- "Distributed" - many people are involved providing access to computing power.
- "Autonomous" - there is no central authority; this follows from what makes Bitcoin work so well, allowing a crowd to come to a unanimous decision.
- "Consensus" - everyone agrees on a unique point of reference; that is, there is a general agreement, a 'consensus'. So, for Bitcoin BTC this is the BTC Blockchain, rather than any other ledger. For PTS, this consensus is that PTS Blockchain. For a DAC it is another blockchain acting as a unique reference of transactions as they occur.

The narrative above reminds me of the thought that what are considered the best works of fiction, let the user do the work of creating a world in their imagination, rather than ever answering all the ambiguities. I think that's perhaps why I don't take to narratives for descriptions, and prefer that any description is left simple and specific as a definition rather than as an illustration. That's just me though and promoting ideas always needs a wide variety of types of communication; those each appealling to different audiences, in different ways.

Also, on the point of selling the idea, backing it up with examples perhaps is fine but initially you need to grab a readers attention fast; make them understand very quickly why they need this, rather than risk leaving them wondering why they would want to put in effort up front reading pages of a story. Last thought then is that SETI is too abstract from addressing any real hunger that the reader might come to this with; perhaps a real business example might hook them better?

So, this is half an idea but I'm going to throw it out there anyway..

The problem:

There is a central authority, for postcodes. In the spirit of doing away with the need for central authorities, I wonder then a DAC might be useful.

The motivation:

There is value in having consensus.
UK Postcodes alone are valued at £1.8bn a year. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-26605375 for the recent reaction to learning that UK.gov sold off that postcode detail.

The solution?:

As much of an idea as I've had then is to setup a DAC as a reference for addresses - postal addresses and other real world place markers.

Rather perversely, I'm not sure whether this needs a blockchain, as there is no transfer required but instead just a consensus on what the reference is. So, a simple match of the address in a standard format, perhaps is the private key that gives a public unique reference address, which perhaps would be useful for automation and engaging the real world in a standard way. I wonder this almost calls for a reversable key rather than an encrypted one.

I'm struggling then to see how this might be implimented in a way that is easy to reverse, given that normally the move from private key to public address involves a loss of information.

If such a reference can be easily reversed, even if by lookup on the 'blockchain'; and if consensus could be found for such a reference, then 'profit' follows from the savings made from the efficiency such a reference provides.

If it is a lookup service, then populating the data might be a problem; if the public address is easily reversed to the 'private' full address, then no population of a blockchain is needed. This then I wonder is where the idea falls short.. If you need to populate the blockchain then that is tough data to get, if you don't then what is the point?.. and yet consensus is value, so how to secure that value??

The reward:

Not for profit but as a loss leader. If there was a good way to make this consensus and do away with central authorities, then perhaps providing such a simple reference service for free would be a useful catalyst for engaging a wide audience for other DACs?

Disclaimer: I'm not a clever man, so not in a position to implement any of this myself.

Brain over.

General Discussion / Re: BTS-X Altcoin Competition/Promotion
« on: March 13, 2014, 09:54:16 am »
That's a very good idea.

I'm not partial and wonder that it doesn't need to be a fair competition even. Perhaps look to more established alt-coins first and prefer those?.. PPC and/or XPM would be ideal, since those are established and have a competent dev in Sunny King, who might understand the opportunity and be in a position to act quickly.

667
If it becomes a problem, then surely a simple switch to a PoS alternate would work?.. I expect once the first or first couple of product are released that interest in PTS might continue regardless.

668
What would motivate a group to do this?

Group?.. I've not looked closely but would expect it's just an individual looking to cash in to those stupid enough to send BTC. If they get a few fractions of BTC, that's a days work done.

All the more reason to put effort into raising the profile of BitShares et al, in order that there is no easy confusion about what is backed by devs and support and what is not.

Don't forget the obvious #Invictus

You could perhaps dump the contents of forum posts to a wordcloud and see what that suggests. wordle.net works well.

I'm waiting for the wallet to rule them all; one which plays host to many coins and offers a user one public address that can then accept all flavours of coin.

Don't know if it makes sense.. but it would help to understand better what other "international" public you might have.. by adding linkedin profile for invictus.

Using Linkedin would make a lot more sense than a "Meme collection" ::)
Ethereum and Mastercoin already have a presence there both as company and as the Group that wider community will want to look to. That then could act as a professional blog with key updates.

Were those DAC builders perhaps not owning AGS/PTS and feeling excluded themselves?.. just a guess but perhaps to be expected that those who are part of this culture will more likely honor it. I'm too new to know much of MMC and NRS but also then wonder I'm less likely to engage with those that do choose to act outside the AGS/PTS social consensus. If you honor that, then you immediately have an engaged audience; and if you don't, then it's more of a gamble.

Those are simply integer representation; so, divide by 100000000 to see what should be roughly 133% BTS the number of PTS you held at snapshot. BTS X wallet avaliable later will then import and I expect then will make obvious the PTS and the BTS separately.

675
Would it not follow in some complex way, from a measure of the activity required to settle a market to the point that makes it invulnerable to a single player pumping and dumping, coupled with the frequency that people use it? So, volume * bell curve of useage = X.

I don't know, how complex the market might seem to those holding BTS initially, how many of those will understand the options avaliable and then engage with actions avaliable to them.

Whatever the reality of the minimum, any effort put in now to encouraging people to understand what BitShares X are, will pay off later and help avoid people waiting to witness other's actions. Cater for the stupid rich; and the poor but financially saavy, give them confidence and perhaps abc examples of exaclty what is on offer and watch how engaged that audience is to better sense what activity might happen from the get go.
