What we really need is a new DSL for dealing with "cryptographic types" to use as building blocks for contracts. If this language is designed carefully we can reap tremendous benefits from various static analysis. The platform would then be an engine/interpreter for this language, with blockchains just being a special case of message types it could handle.

Think SQL:Databases::??:DACs

Would/ Could such a DSL be restricted to bitshares tools/source code/platform?

For what I'm thinking of: no, it would be very general, not even specific to particular cryptographic algorithms. All cryptographic hashes, for example, perform the same information-theoretic function.

http://angelshares.info/index.php is not out of sync, correct?

And any idea when http://www1.agsexplorer.com/# will work again?

DAC PLAY / Re: PokerChips: Hosting Fair RNG Sessions
« on: February 06, 2014, 07:30:22 pm »
I have some strong connections to high roller players that I would support here if you would find that helpful in some way at some point...

Are you on 2+2?

I don't play myself and am not active in the poker community. But I know a lot people (my brother is one) living in poker communities mostly in Asia. They play online mostly, all for a living.

Also note that the average quality of players got higher and higher over the last years and it gets more and more difficult for anyone to make money respectively that the average return decreases for high rollers. This can be a big factor for a high demand for low rake services...

General Discussion / Re: Great News for the Industry and Competition

Interesting but guess they could  just use bitshares :)
Makes me wonder if 3I  manage to hire any C++ developer now that the project started 3 month ago. In fact It will be cool to know if they mange to hire anyone lately  or if there is a proactive plan to do that anytime soon. Hope that upcoming newsletter  will have some positive news in it.

It might be helpful to incorporate bitshares / I3 discussions more into BTT in order to attract good developers. Something like an active Bitshares Topic, like the NXT thread... What do you think? might be dificult though because all the activity is here now which is a better to organize discussions...

My take on ethereum is that it has tremendous upside when it can solve the scalability issues but I dont think that is possible. The really high volume DACs will go with the I3 toolkit...

I'm a non-technical person.  Can someone help me understand the differences between Invictus and Ethereum?  This is my understanding:

The Invictus platform uses a different chain for everything.  So, trading gold will be on a different block chain then placing bets on the Super Bowl.  All Ethereum DACs will be on one block chain. Is this correct?

As an end user that's non-technical, why does this all matter to me?

What matters to you as an end user is if you have to pay high fees on your bets and how long it takes to make a bet. Invictus tools will be better at this.
Not sure but what Ethereum guys say is that it is super easy to implement DACs. This might actually be the case and I am sure there will be some applications this is very useful for. But with every useful application that very many people will use and which can generate a lot of profit there will be a competitor that will look for a more economic way to implement this (to offer a better service to end users) application and might go with the Invictus Tools...
I am more economical than technical, so technical evaluation of this is welcome...

maybe it would be worth mentioning in the monthly I3 newsletter, in something like a 'community activities' section. This would def get more people to vote.
A community actives section would be something that would encourage an even stronger community in general.

General Discussion / Re: BitShares X Status Update

Today I made some more progress on the margin call code.   The majority of the code is in place and I am actively tracking down one bug at a time.  The effort to setup the test cases is getting increasingly complex.

More updates to come tomorrow.

I think Bitshares (and counterparty) have such tremendous potential and can get way bigger in market cap than bitcoin IF EVERYTHING GOES AS PLANNED. If Bitshares works you need A LOT OF COLLATERAL (Bitshares)...

I burned some too. Was not that difficult. You could do it with a blockchain.info account...
