Title: Attracting some Gamers and a funny Community Event
Post by: JA on December 29, 2014, 06:39:55 am
I would like to see Cryptocurrency Gaming Tournament.

In the Gaming Community, Tournaments are gaining more and more popularity.

Wouldn't it be awesome if this Community would set up such a Tournament?

With Prizes, Teams and Bets.

The games i play the most, Counterstrike GO and Dota 2 are played by millions and Games between high ranked well known Teams are watched by millions. (without a Tournament!)
Even unknown players/teams in Counterstrike GO who just have high ranks are watched by 200-600 people every hour or so!

In 2011, The International Dota 2 Tournament in Germany gained a shit ton of attention because of the 1.600.000 $ Price.
The Best Teams in the World where there.

Here is aweseome Movie of the Tournament :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjZYMI1zB9s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjZYMI1zB9s)

I'm not saying that we should have a 1.6m$ Prize and it doesn't have to be hosted at a special place.  ;)
There are often Tournaments that are just hosted online.

Setting up such a event in the crypto space, would possibly gain some attention.
The Bitshares project could be a/the main sponsor by contributing to the Prize or giving a delegate position or a percentage of the Bets could be the prize. idk  :D

Maybe the paricipant pay for a ticket and the top 3 teams get the payments as the price.(I would pay 10 $ or 20 $ to participate )
And of course everything is payed in Cryptocurrency eg. BTS,BTC,BitUSD  :)

I personally would even be happy if we play with a 1000$ Prize as long as it includes my top 2 interests, Cryptocurrency and Gaming

Hackfisher of bitshares PLAY has stated that he would be willing to give 1 Million PLS for a gaming tournament.

I held a community poll (with community-chosen FREE competitive games) and DOTA came out on top: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11025.0

I am more than willing to get you up to date if you are interested.  I am in mumble right now if you are interested in chatting.

It wouldn't matter.  The model Hack and I worked out would be more of a community outreach effort.  Here is how it goes:

Every person from our community who signs up for the competition goes out and plays DOTA (for, perhaps, 2 weeks?).  They seek out people who they think will give them the best chance at winning and try to get them to join their team.

In this way if we have, say, 30 people sign up, they will all come back with another 120 new people.  The new people would have to sign up on the Playtalk forums and would receive vouchers to turn in for PLS if they win the tournament(s).  DOTA was just the first one though...and the only reason I chose it was, well, because I didn't--the community did :)

Sounds awesome.
And the Mumble Server could provide a Chat Room for each team if wanted.
Any timeframe or date figured out yet?

I attempted to start this whole shindig but found some pushback and so personally wanted to wait until PLAY forums were up.  That way we could get those who are interested in BitShares PLAY all in the same place without having to worry about being looked at as taking away from the primary BTS chain.

As for Mumble...we have it already covered.  There is a specific area just for PLAY and gamers.  I will expand it as needed, but for the time being it is fine how it is.

As for timeframe, get with me and we can work something out with the PLAY team.  I have really been itching to start helping them in more substantive ways anyway...and to be frank I prefer gaming over the seriousness of Forex exchanges...

Good to see you man.  I thought something bad happened to you.
