Title: This is our chance to make MemoryCoin really big!
Post by: belltown on December 31, 2013, 06:36:15 am
One of the very talented bloggers just wrote the best post even written about MemoryCoin http://btcgeek.com/memorycoin-trying-something-brilliant/

This is our chance to put his post in front of one of the the big news sources and make MemoryCoin famous. Thousands of people can learn about our coin in an instant. MMC to the moon!

The first idea we had was to submit this to HakerNews https://news.ycombinator.com/ or Reddit www.reddit.com Then we can ask our community to vote it up and up. Hopefully we can make into the top page. Unfortunately, both HN and Reddit require account to be able to vote. I know some people will be glad to create an account to help MemoryCoin, but not all will.

So my question is where do we have more accounts? On Reddit or HakerNews? Let’s organize our campaign on something we have better chances of succeeding.

Any other news sources we can have a better chance of succeeding?

I think it will have a better chance on hacker news - folks there more likely to understand what we are trying to do.

For Reddit, a better angle might be to introduce memorycoin as a way to acquire Bitcoin for those with AESNI CPUs.

Ok, seems like HakerNews it is. I'll discuss a date and time with the author so maybe his followers can support it too.

Please create accounts on HakerNews https://news.ycombinator.com/ so we are all ready to vote!

The article was already posted to HN by someone a day ago. It can not be posted again unless its URL changes.

As a long time user of HN, let me offer a couple of suggestions:

(1) Change the title o the blog article to be more descriptive; on HN the title of your submission should match the title of the original blog article. Things that look too much like PR or shilling (avoid using words like "brilliant") will very quickly get an article flagged.

(2) The best time to submit something on HN is 7-9AM PST on a work day.

(3) HN has a very sophisticated user base. Don't just submit the article and walk away. You need to be able to inteligently answer (at times very pointed) posts in the comments.

(4) HN has very good defenses against astroturfing. I wouldn't try to game the system.

Thank you for your feedback, whynot! I'll share it with the author.

How much do you know about #4? If we have a large number of users creating new accounts and voting for the same submittion can it be considered gaming the system?

They spend a lot of time thinking about that kind of stuff. I wouldn't even bother trying, its much more likely to hurt than help.

BTC Geek blogger is looking into preparing his article for second submittion to HackerNews. WhyNot's feedback was super helpful, thanks man. Once he's ready and we have a date decided I'll let you guys know.

I my campaign I will specifically warn people not to create new accounts just to votes. But I will encourage them to contact friends who have active HakerNews accounts.
