Title: I want to buy BTS without using BTER
Post by: bitmarley on January 05, 2015, 12:25:21 pm
I've finally been convinced by the BTS tech. So I want to shift a large portion of my BTC into BTS.
My hope is I can do it without registering with BTER or other 3rd party exchanges, but I need help.

I am trying the BTC>BTS gateway by:
julian1-delegate
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=12527.30

and waiting for the gateway by:
dev-metaexchange.monsterer
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=12317.msg169360#msg169360

Are there any other options?
Is it safer to trust a delegate versus a 3rd party exchange like BTER?
Also looking for general advice if there other important things I may be overlooking?

Thanks.

I would honestly just use bter.

At the moment I think the Gateways are still bleeding edge tech.  People are experimenting with them now, but probably not transferring large sums yet.

bter is quite good and there is much volume.  You can really get through the whole process done in under 15 minutes.

Make sure you have an account registered on the blockchain first.

When exporting bts from bter you need to use your bitshares account NAME and not the public key.

Cheers

I used bter at first then upgraded to bct38.Welcome

In addition to the ah-ha moment question, Where did you hear about us from?

Um Dan and how he can keep his cool on the forum.  And, seriously, the simple solutions the dev team brought to the market.   Then later bitassets.   I don't know how I could ever live without bitassets which let me stay crypto as long as possible.

Thats exactly how I feel. If everyone into cryptocurrency really understood this, they would acknowledge that this is their dream blockchain.

Im gonna steal your quote :p

Can I ask what was the aha moment that got you into BitShares?

I've been learning about bitshares for a while. The bitUSD, bitGOLD assets I had been wishing for and I saw the bitshares was the first to do it the way I imagined it should be done. But the aha moment for me was this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yrif9uThwSY&index=4&list=PLjgfpSQFJTLqbgHm8mkgPdD-ma7t0bRhK

once I understood the incentives system for delegates more completely I was ready. Also hearing Max Wright and Dan Larimer speak about it further consolidated my decision. I'm still concerned about a few questions and if the answers are right I will get more into bitshares.

I used bter at first then upgraded to bct38.Welcome

In addition to the ah-ha moment question, Where did you hear about us from?

I've been watching the list here as bitshares became visible I started looking into it.

The big part about the incentives system that really wins me over is figuring out that Top Delegates are incentivized to do more than just process transactions. When I figured out that delegates compete with each other and may set their pay rate below 100% the penny dropped.

From what I understand so far, I expect that the Top Delegates pool will be increased beyond 101 as bitshares owners realize paying HIGHER transaction fees can increase Top Delegate output. A Top Delegate spot is the ideal way for bitshares owners to crowd fund bitshares crypto projects. Given the vast nature of apps that could be developed in bitshares, this goes way beyond a cypto-currency, its a crypto-socio-political system.

As far as I know there's no direct gateway for €->BTS

The best way to go for you would be €->BTC->BTS
BTC 38 has a BTS:BTC market
http://www.btc38.com/trade_en.html?mk_type=btc&btc38_trade_coin_name=bts

Now you have to convert your eur to BTC.
A couple of ways to do this is deposit eur at bitstamp or BTC-e, buy BTC and send to btc38 however this takes some time. In the case of bitstamp maybe over a week, because you have to verify your account.

Many country's have sites that allow you to buy BTC direct with euro.
You could use one of those sites, and then let them directly deposit in to your BTC38 BTC adress.
https://bitonic.nl/en Is an example of one of those sites

What eu country are you from?

Thank's a lot for your explanation.

My plan is actually to trade fiat currencies with their digital equivalent (BitCNY, BitUSD, BitEUR, BitGOLD, BitGBP, etc.) but I'm not sure it is possible with BTC38.

BTW I'm from France.

CCEDK is our best bet for direct trades like this. They are one of the few exchanges who currently interested in better integration

Can I user BTER without owning a BTS wallet? I currently have my money in an exchange and do not own a wallet -- due to not trusting my home computer.

https://shapeshift.io/ is now an excellent option, although they do have a cap on transaction sizes:

BTC -> BTS: 0.5318 BTC max
BTC -> bitUSD: 1.2767 BTC max

bter.com would store your BTS if you trust them (they will actually store IOU for the BTS you bought). So, whenever you're ready (You'd better be soon), you can move your BTS to some other BitShares account/wallet, this could be your own wallet, other exchange etc.

+5% I just used shapeshift.  Very impressed.

nobody prevent us to make multiple transactions to beat the temporary cap... :)

But he would still need his own wallet to use Shapeshift. He says he does not want to have a wallet on his own untrusted computer.

As far as I can see, his only option is to buy and hold on an exchange for now.
