I don't quite understand why multisig is useful here. I am thinking that Delegates can simply scan the bitcoin blockchain and find bitcoin transactions created by the bitshares client in step #3. When many(all?) delegates all verify the bitcoin transaction then they can release the corresponding BTS (or bitBTC or whatever).

Yes we could build bitcoin "state" into the assumed "known" state by all delegates.   But why tie ourself to that baggage?

Sounds like you have a better plan to accomplish this, aren't you?

Not exactly sure what you are describing but let me give you some more insights:
1) The crypto (ECC) of btc and bts are the same. So every private key in bts can also be calculated to represent a btc address. If you run wallet_account_list_public_keys on any of your bts accounts you will see this:
Code: [Select]
{
    "hex": "0211e5700aea578ac8c8e2e5e0d6f484a21781ae20db431fc9150a6ca64903e36e",
    "native_pubkey": "BTS52NVKZncXTQwm6gWsLXDvQ8WoG2TewBiiAJy4QUNkj7S4UWFQQ",
    "native_address": "BTSVH3sgU3zb37D7fyrq4p9FYss3ySvxkzz",
    "pts_normal_address": "Pm22jR1KKC2CSgjp5uWJbXymdr1y9CQEdS",
    "pts_compressed_address": "Pt1Z7bF1xptsSxeYBKwXuHXaaSaVxGX1on",
    "btc_normal_address": "1E6FbLKBZ658eQvxiQrTSWjiPbb9LM44kq",
    "btc_compressed_address": "1M5myWYtCiwoegqgoqHgkGHXLC9gAhdR21"
  }
those pts,bts, and btc addresses can all be access by the private key of ""BTS52NVKZncXTQwm6gWsLXDvQ8WoG2TewBiiAJy4QUNkj7S4UWFQQ".

2) forum member monsterer is currently building a BTC<->bitBTC gateway (read: bridge)
   http://xchain.info/

That way you can send BTC to an address of the gateway and will receive bitBTC in the BTS-address that corresponds to your btc-sender address (at least that's what I think it does)

great. so it sounds like #1 #2 #3 #5 & #6 are possible in bitshares.

So what about #4, can delegates run code to verify that the bitshares created bitcoin transactions have been confirmed on the bitcoin blockchain?
With the upcoming multisig features no4 can also be done

How? Can you explain further, please.

I played a bit with this service, today.

I realize I did not follow the instructions [partly because my Armory does not provide compresses private keys only the one that start with 5. So does the BTS client  btw when you use wallet_dump_private_key, even though you say it does use compressed ones, maybe internally], anyway with that in mind I used amounts that I really do not care about.

- I dumped the private key, using wallet_dump_private_key, of the active public key of an unregistered BTS account.

- Imported those in the BTC wallet.

-Transferred BTC to the gateway address from there and got the bitBTC.

- Using the GUI sent those bitBTC to metaexchangebtc and got nothing back... :)

No worries, as I said it was a very small amount, just letting you know how it went.

Technical Support / Re: Bought bitUSD, Paid BTS, Never Received bitUSD...
« on: January 15, 2015, 10:33:39 pm »

Can you walk us through what you did? I just tried to get some BITUSD and it wasn't easy. The books are empty so even if I managed to place an order I could just cancel it unless someone has a script setup to watch it.

The easiest thing to do, and what I hope you did, was open the client, go to market tab and click on the bitUSD:BTC with the graph under featured markets. Otherwise you'd have had to type BITUSD:BTS into the search engine and pick it from a dropdown list.

Lastly the client produces an error: " The BITUSD/BTS market has not yet been initialized."

All may not be lost...

All of that plus:

BITUSD do not show any trades...so hopefully fuzz did not lose 50K BTS....

I may be wrong, but isn't this thread talking about a lack of BitUSD BUYERS?

You have it backwards, concern was that nobody would be willing to sell/short. This morning was the first time buy wall was higher than short wall.

uhhh... at least the second time.

I don't see what you're seeing, bytemaster.

In the BitUSD market?  5M BTS short wall?

It was never quite 5 mil, but you should know better than me...maybe it was eaten to less than 5mil before I can see it.

Yea, NuShares is being built up around an inferior BitUSD & BitReserve is worth $100 million+ on a centralized BitGold, I'd argue with a precious metal dealer gateway we'd be superior.

It almost feels like we should detach two companies here

The BitUSD company (Website, wallet, forum, video, advertising, promotion as well as artificially stimulate turnover on bter.)

The BitGold company (Same but use delegates to grow CAP and turnover more.)

BitShares actually has at least 5 $100 million+ companies in 1

- Decentralized Exchange
- Decentralized Bank
- Remittance
- Decentralized Dollar
- Decentralizd Precious metals

We could give each company it's own name and market them completely separately with their own websites. Only investors would know they are part of the BitShares umbrella DAC but to customers they'd be known as completely separate companies and most would only know 1 of them.

And on that day... BitShares Holding Company was born...
DAH... Decentralized Autonomous Holding

First off - great site svk!!!

Several minor issues:

- Prices for Bid/Ask/Short are in BTSper asset (USD,CNY,BTC), but the feed price is in USD/BTS;
Example Bid 19500, Ask 20600 feed price 0.0005

- You display the average feed price now - not very useful info. Can you display the median feed price - the actual price used for shorting etc.

- At least when using the I explorer browser, if you leave the page for a while it reloads some old state of the database- I mean the order-book  -  bid ask and short orders. If you do not get what I mean I can probably post some snapshots.

Thanks.

Well, I for one believe he did the right thing for himself.

As in he shorted most of his position yet again. Has he been waiting for those shorts to expire, me and a ton of you it seems, would have sold him enough bitUSD to cover but we would have precluded him from re-shorting....
It is king of long term/bigger approach, what she did.

Seems like a start-up with big plans, including trying to obtain a money transmitter  license in all 50 US states.

According to the link HolyTransaction(.com) is a 'product' of Novelty Lab.

I apriciate everyones concern and feedback, but please back off.  We all get the point and this discussion is interfering with actual productive R&D.

If we are talking about principles here:

1) PTS should live on and be supported by who ever wants to buy in / share drop to it.
2) BTS should ask for a reasonable recognition (20% or less) share drop in future chains.
3) AGS is what it is. It is just another share drop target.   I personally thing PTS should have share dropped 10% on AGS for funding its upgrade and freeing it from mining.

4) I don't want DVS to set any precedents.

WOW!!!! - That is humongous nail in the alphaBar's coffin  :)

Ask somebody to lock this thread.
I will delete the other(as I started it)!

Even better you then drop AlphaBar's PTS on PTS POW, to buy them out! Even better burn them, to buy them out!

Changing everything other than the abbreviation 'PTS', does not sound like 'the same' to me. Hope the less tolerant accept your reading of the law.

If BTC wanted to upgrade from POW to DPOS what should the process be?

I will do it like this:

For the balance on the new chain to be valid/credited 2 conditions must be met:
-Private key [import/proof of possession];
-Transaction sending the balance to the burn address[after snapshot date]

Burned balance is you balance on the new chain.

Some thoughts:

For those of us that are staunch BTS supporters there are a couple things about PTS to consider:

1) If I3 held donated PTS past Dec 31, 2014 it may be taxable income. The income would be valued at donation date. Recall that was about $15/share. Current prices are about $0.26/share. Do the math on that tax liability and all of a sudden them returning all PTS starts to make sense.

2) If PTS dies with I3, and the BTS "merger", the SEC may have case for PTS being a security.

So while you fight the anti-PTS war in support of BTS think about what's really going on and what a worse case scenario may look like.

As Stan often says, "Think bigger".

Well they did the right thing and returned them.

Continuing mining them (some of us indeed do so!!!) is how you help this issue.
Even better you then drop AlphaBar's PTS on PTS POW, to buy them out! Even better burn them, to buy them out!

Changing everything other than the abbreviation 'PTS', does not sound like 'the same' to me. Hope the less tolerant accept your reading of the law.
