Title: I HAVE 2 WORDS FOR YOU - Please help me clarify...........................
Post by: kenCode on February 14, 2016, 07:42:53 am
The Smartcoins POS systems will be launched in 44 languages. I also had our graphics guy make up multi-lingual versions of the window decals for the merchants. Please verify that I translated the "ACCEPTED HERE" text properly. If not, please tell me which language to change, and to what I must change it to. (http://i.imgur.com/s5yJQKW.jpg)
edit: i am putting smiley faces by the verified translations..

In Czech "ZDE PŘIJÍMÁME" is correct.
Yours translation is Google probably?

Chinese is correct.
But “这里接受” and “這裡接受”  are better.

Chinese, Simplified/Mandarin; zh, zh-CN, cmn-Hans-CN (中文) - 这里接受
Chinese, Traditional/Cantonese; zh-TW, cmn-Hant-TW (繁體中文) - 這裡接受

Greek is a bit strange as a language. I think you should leave it in English otherwise it reads funny..

If you insist translating it I would say:
"ΓΙΝΟΝΤΑΙ ΔΕΚΤΑ" or "ΔΕΚΤΑ ΕΔΩ"

@liondani and @chryspano what do you guys think?

@fuzzy no need to send me anything. you are already doing to much

I agree, curent tranlation would be apropriate if Smartcoins and Bitcoin were credit/debit cards
either leave it in eglish(EDIT: Half the Greeks can speak some English https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_English-speaking_population) or change to "ΔΕΚΤΑ ΕΔΩ"

French is correct.

However, "accepté" is singular, and "smartcoins" is plural, so "Smartcoins ACCEPTÉS ICI" would be more correct.

The current german translations says 'WE ACCEPT' but you probably would want to say 'HIER AKZEPTIERT'

so either it's WIR AKZEPTIEREN SMARTCOINS (text first) or SMARTCOINS HIER AKZEPTIERT (text last)

Well, I want these to look as natural as possible, like they were designed by a local. Please let me know what would look the most acceptable to the natives, thank you @paliboy :)

Russian should be "принимаются здесь"
More natural in this context: "Принимаем здесь".

#6 Bulgarian is wrong

Приемаме smartcoins.

Паботим c  bitcoin.

even leaving the bitcoin part in English is OK I guess.

So chose one of the flowing 3:
Приемаме smartcoins.
Приемаме bitcoin
-----------------------------
Приемаме smartcoins.
Паботим c bitcoin
-----------------------------
Приемаме smartcoins.
We accept bitcoin.

haha no, допусне is wrong.
I will pick option one personally.[bold now]. As in many other languages (see above) the passive voice sounds very unnatural, so I  have done it in active voice.

Japanese should be (Smartcoin/Bitcoin) "での支払いを受け付けています".
It means "We accept payment by Smartcoin/Bitcoin".

Actually, it's not unnatural to leave it in English IMO as all "bitcoin accepted here" signs in japan remain in english.
(Translating into japanese is also natural ofc)

More natural in this context: "Принимаем здесь".

Thanx pal, @krondix would you agree?
Thanx guys :)

Both options actually sound a bit unnatural. I've done some googling:

1. Almost no relevant results for ["принимаем здесь" visa]
2. Some relevant results for ["принимаются здесь" visa]
3. Tons of relevant results for ["мы принимаем" visa]

"Мы принимаем" is literally "we accept".

Honestly I don`t think it is worth to translate nor to write anything besides just SMARTCOINS .
Most Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Apple Pay, whatever stickers do not say accepted her.
And if you put the Smartcoins sticker on a door it is very likely that Visa or something is already there.
Those signs implicit that it is related to payment, no need to write it explicit.

just my 2 Smartcoins

OK kenCode, you can have your direct translation, BUT as in Russian above, the passive voice "Bitcoin Accepted Here" ( as opposed to the active voice "(We) accept bitcoin", sounds unnatural and will never be used by native speaker.

ACCEPTED HERE in Bulgarian

ТУК СЕ ПРИЕМАТ ( smarcoins pl.)

ТУК СЕ ПРИЕМА  (bitcoin s.)

@kenCode: You mentioned that you want translations that sound like a native speaker.  But several people here are saying that "accepted here" (as opposed to "we accept") is not natural and would never be uttered by a native speaker.  My good friend is from mainland China and speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese, so I can confirm this is an issue in these languages as well.  So I hope you'll choose to go with "we accept" instead of "accepted here" if you want this to be taken seriously in many of these countries.  And by the way, the "we accept" format is not a new idea (see below).

Then in that case in Greek I think the best would be to write "ΔΕΧΟΜΑΣΤΕ bitcoins" , "ΔΕΧΟΜΑΣΤΕ smartcoins" which translates "we accept bitcoins". But the word we accept "ΔΕΧΟΜΑΣΤΕ" should appear on top and not on the bottom of the logo.

Googled a bit more, looking at pictures this time (https://yandex.ru/search/?msid=22887.24108.1455533220.2489&text=мы%20принимаем%20visa%20mastercard).

Most of them (95%?) are in the form of "we accept VISA" or "you can pay with VISA". It looks like in some languages "we accept XXX" is heavily preferred to "XXX accepted here".

Problem is, we don't say "Bitcoin is accepted here" in Russian. We say "Pay with Bitcoin" or "We accept Bitcoin". It's a bit awkward to hear "Bitcoin accepted" in literal Russian translation. Every Russian speaker will understand it though.

Probably, the least awkward choice would be Bitcoin ПРИНИМАЕМ

Thanx for your understanding. I know it might not seem perfect, but leaving it under the logo is really the only thing I can do right now. No sense in paying my graphics guys double the price to have to go in and have some on top, some on bottom, etc.

You'd sure simplify matters greatly (and have natural translations for all languages) if you just created a universal version with "We Accept" at the top (as in the image linked below).  Otherwise you'll have stickers that don't make sense in many of the countries, and people (both merchants and consumers) won't take it seriously.  That's the reality.  My guess is you would regret that later.  Your call, though.  Good luck!

And only for Bitcoin it's "Bitcoin accepted here" (https://www.google.rs/search?q=accept+bitcoin&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwii5aS98fnKAhUI1iwKHaeuD8MQ_AUIBygB&biw=1346&bih=1273#).

i do not care if it says WE ACCEPT or ACCEPTED HERE really, just give me the UPPERCASE (if possible) that will make it look the most native, please.
do not include the words bitcoin or smartcoins.

thanx in advance :)

Uugh, any way we can keep the text below please and still have it make sense?

that would be "bitcoins ΔΕΚΤΑ ΕΔΩ"

since the Greek text will be below the words smartcoins and bitcoin, should I change the Greek translation above?

From my Serbian friends:

'We accept...' = 'prihvatamo'

PS. They have two alphabets in Serbia, latin and cyrillic.

17. Finnish; fi (Suomi) - HYVÄKSYTTÄVÄ,

Hyväksyttävä is not a correct choice here. I would replace it with kelpaa täällä. Maybe not an optimal expression but best I can come up with right now. A minor problem is that smarcoins is plural and bitcoin is singular.

Accepted here is quite simple english so most people will understand what it means. If you don't have a good translation for some languages, maybe better just use the english version.
