When BTS 2.0 rolled out, I expected Cryptonomex to operate the main faucet for registration fees. Instead, this was handed to a company called OpenLedger. Today, this is still true: http://bitshares.org has a "Try Online Wallet" on the front page that links to an OpenLedger URL. Even the official Bitshares web wallet at http://bitshares.org/wallet still has OpenLedger receiving the registrar credit on new accounts.
I was under the impression that OpenLedger was a separate company, affiliated with CCEDK. Is this correct? What is the official relationship between Bitshares and OpenLedger? Why doesn't the faucet come from the committee account, so that registrar bonuses are returned to the network?
-
i asked this a couple of times, but got just ignored.
-
Humm yes why indeed.
I will bring this to the attention of the Committee and see what comes of it.
-
Resources(man power, funds) for running and maintain the faucet server?

BitShares is a public blockchain operated by it's shareholders.
Open Ledger is a CCEDK company built on BitShares' open platform.
Both use free software provided to the industry by Cryptonomex.
There is no formal relationship between any of them.

Stan words this in such a way that like usual there is some key point he is hiding between the lines. I do not think CNX created OL for CCEDK and are not receiving a big piece of the action.
It is to their benefit that they keep the OL wallet linked on the home page.
-
I hope they both make a killing during the next scheduled debt crisis
-
Tell me, who would run a faucet and exchange for BitShares.org?
If you want to set one up and send the profits you make to the commitee-account, well, go ahead.

Strange, but true. For the first month or so the plan was to split the revenue, then BM simply told Ronny to keep the change. He figured that would be the best way to ensure that the first exchange to join the BitShares Exchange Network would be successful and would increase the likelihood that other exchanges would join using the same free software.

Let's at least point the "Try Online Wallet!" button at http://bitshares.org to its own http://bitshares.org/wallet. Any downside?

I agree. It seems OL is the most successful BTS application so far.

From my worker thread (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,22487.msg292586.html#msg292586):
I agree with Xeroc though that it would be great to have a video making clear the distinction between Bitshares and Openledger. And if it's paid by worker it would be best if the videos used either the light wallet or bitshares.org/wallet.
I've been commissioned to produce Bitshares-branded videos, which I think is the right choice. I'd like to be able to navigate to http://bitshares.org and click the Online Wallet button, demonstrating the link to the Bitshares wallet. It's clear that OpenLedger is a for-profit company, and it doesn't seem like a decentralized blockchain's website should be linking to the OL wallet as if they are the same brand.
Any thoughts?

Thats the least of our concerns. If Ronny continues to show himself to be a dependable business partner and admin/upkeep a centralized frontend then BitShares should support him. He is one of the best things BitShares has going for it.
What is the alternative that should be linked to?

you could ask to the big guys that are supporting your worker what hey think of.it.....in my opinion no problem to link to openledger they are very important here n if we can do anything to help them both will benefit

The alternative is https://bitshares.org/wallet
It still (currently) has OpenLedger as the registrar, but at least it's on the proper domain.
