I've traded for years and the trollbox is good for realtime info, this forum is too slow for sharing trading info, even if its fud it still helps build the community.
Can somebody quickly knock up a website that iframes a troll box on the right side and openledger on the left.
even if its just polos troll box

Can one of the designers (Val?) let us know if a trollbox is planned / on the todo list?
A trollbox really does make an exchange look active and helps to build up a userbase.
-
I'd certainly like to put one in but we need to find a safe way of doing it.

What do you mean by safe? I don't see what safety risk you have from IRC that you don't have already.
Btw, the mock up that he put up is exactly where the troll box ought to be placed. That is exactly how it ought to look and it doesn't even have to be fancy at first.
-
Yeah fine. But it needs to be optional, some way to turn it off in preferences. I hate the damned things myself.

Just look at the Mockup. It should be a pull out tab where only people who want to see it can see it at all times. Just like we can have a chatbox already in the main site which is optional why can't we have a trollbox?
On the main OpenLedger site they use Tawk.to yet for the Exchange people are worried about security? I don't get it. If there is a security issue using javascript then it would already be an issue and no I don't think we should delay implementation in order to do a fancy technical blockchain based version.
We should just throw any trollbox together temporarily, as quickly as possible, and then when the technically advanced version is ready we can simply swap it out for the updated one. What do you think every other exchange website would do in this situation?

Great, but no one is going to want to pay to post messages in a trollbox, so you cant record those messages in the blockchain. It needs to be free.

Yeah it has to be free and external from bitshares/openledger

Copy -> Paste :P
It would really make it interesting to hang around on our DEX, if yall are there keeping me company and helping me out with my trading trollbox style :-* It would be lively right away we already got like 60 people obsessively checking the forums.
-
isn't there a blockchain based open source chat (coin or whatever)?
-
This forum has just been ofline for the lat 4 hours, If we had a trollbox on open ledger that would have been good

@ValentinJesse @puppies and me tested retroshare while bitsharestalk was down. find a way to port their system to bitshares and we're set with every feature, incl decentralized forum, chat and mail.

we purposed a system called ultra that does just this,
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=17388.30
but the concept was... not accepted.
id be willing to have a run at plugging in smf's database to this if there were a bounty or something :)
we could also try our hand at a quick cli hack that plugs in a trollbox... shouldnt be hard.
i would also be willing to host this forum on my servers and use a failover system so it never goes down again.

I think we're missing a lot of value for not having some type of trollbox. It's not my thing, but looking at Poloniex, people sit on there all day talking and having a good time.

I believe what we're talking about here is not about redesigning the forum but just add a simple trollbox to OpenLedger, doesn't matter if it's ugly, as long as it fills its purpose. We can make it pretty or choose another one better in the future. It only needs to work atm.
I really think it would help bring more people in and it's always useful.
-
Here is the best example I can think of for a trollbox within our wallets:
http://cryptofresh.com/u/announce
Just create a trollbox account, have users import the wif key, implement micro-transactions, code the gui and BAMM... We have real-time chat feeding the BTS ecosystem all at the same time. A profitable trollbox... perish the thought ;)

example page with trollbox
http://www.btswolf.com/bitshares/ (http://www.btswolf.com/bitshares/)
can`t make it wider due to my current theme.

Let's give a people a reason to hang around while trading.

We could expand it a little further too. I changed the memo key of Twitter.puppies to the same key as announce. We could have the wallet show all transfers to any account that has that same memo key. This way we can send messages directly to others but still have them in our troll box. We could automate the creation of accounts with that memo key, and automatically create transfers from that account when typing in the troll box. This allows responding like most other trollboxes. Then we just need a way to ignore users.

It seems to be on the way:

There are at least four problems with using the blockchain to make a trollbox:
1. Decoding memos is slow!
2. Paying a fee to chat would probably be unacceptable to most.
3. You'd need to unlock your wallet just to chat
4. No mod capabilities
This is why I'll most likely use IRC or XMPP..

1. Limit trollbox memos to tweet sizes like 140chars. 3 seconds is fast enough for me.
2. Pay per char like .00001BTS per char.
3. Not a big deal.
4. Why inhibit free speech? Especially if it's limited to 140 chars (per message, per minute, or whatever).
-
Having to pay a BTS fee to post in the trollbox is a non starter - it has to be offchain.
However it would be beneficial to login to the trollbox using a blockchain registered username.
But lets just get something quickly working in the wallet first.
-
The idea of charging for writing messages in the trollbox is ridiculous. We need to keep the blockchain capacity for transactions.
It just needs to be a simple chat box like irc

I agree. Let's not overcomplicate.

It's it's cheap enough that it is like 0.001BTS then it's fine. But the way to do it is like how MCXNow did it.
Their trollbox was free but only for a certain amount of posts per hour. So give the user a certain amount of free posts in an hour and if they don't make any trades or don't pay the fee then they have to deal with the rate limit. The people who trade or who pay the fee don't have rate limits.
This way people don't feel like they are paying. They get some free posts.
-
OpenLedger should copy MCXNow exactly. In MCXNow you couldn't post unlimited if you didn't have beyond a certain value threshold held at the exchange. Do exactly the same for OpenLedger.
Anyone who either pays a fee or buys some trollbox tokens should be able to send unlimited messages and access all the best features. Everyone else should get 5 posts per hour and no more. If you're a frequent chatter then you'll buy the trollbox tokens to have unlimited posts.
This would discourage spam and monetize the box. It would also be very easy to implement. You could label it "basic", "premium". Or you could label it "bronze", "silver", "gold", "platinum", or whatever you want. The more a person holds in terms of value on OpenLedger the higher their membership rank should scale, the more features they can access.

I think if you're going to do it, do it right or delay implementation until it is ready.

I don't know. @svk was working on it, however I don't know where it stands on his priority list. Still, I believe we will have it sooner or later. At least, I really hope so. The idea can be pretty simple but I believe it can have a pretty positive result.

What if I want to ignore all users who don't have beyond a certain amount of value trading on the OpenLedger exchange?
What if I want the script to say, if below x value held amount then ignore all posts?

I'm the one who initiated all of this months ago by asking for a trollbox. It is essential to the success of any exchange. The social element is essential.

I agree with you completely. It's something simple - the idea itself - but a step in the right direction.
