General Discussion / Re: New Voting Demo Video Just Released!
« on: April 02, 2015, 09:54:56 pm »
We decided to wait until St. Patricks Day, when many Americans will be online and communicating with friends and family via social media, to release our new Follow My Vote (Powered By BitShares) Verifiable Voting Voting demo video! Please check out the video, share with your friends and family via social media, and let us know what you think!

https://youtu.be/hJstfzHBU38

i wanted to give an update with respect to our performance in marketing this video on Facebook. We targeted US, India, and Norway (ahead of our recent visit). We reached 44K+ people in those three countries and received 4.5K+ views.

NOTE: these are Facebook video stats viewable via the video post our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/FollowMyVote), meaning if you were to view the video on YouTube, you won't see these stats reflected there.

This thread may be of interest.  I'd be curios to know more about the verification methods explored by followmyvote.

thanks for the plug matt608! let's keep in mind, this is the proof of concept system we developed on a very limited budget. as such, we took the "gating" approach this guy eludes to here:  http://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/2zdqsu/voting_dapps_would_require_a_verified_identity/cphzmna

Cool video, way too fast and aggressive though (super loud, fast music). Theres a lot going on where you cant make out whats happening which makes it look confusing.

the original version was around 6 minutes long, with no music, just dictation of what's actually happening as the voter navigates the interface. we were thinking it was too long and that most people wouldn't want to sit through it. but, would you guys like us to post that version to our youtube channel as well?

Nice! Sometimes it is easy to forget that BitShares is so much more than just a decentralized exchange.

i'm happy to serve as a reminder!!  ;)

Neat, thanks for sharing. Looks like a lot of the legwork is done! I imagine it would be pretty easy to adapt this voting system to other countries and the private sector (barring legal implications)

yes, exactly! we should be able to adapt our system to work for any use case fairly easily.

Amazing, quick question. Who has the private key to actually see the phone ID etc?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

great question! the private key is derived from the list of words/passphrase shown toward the bottom of the screen after the user submits their identity info.

General Discussion / BitShares, Follow My Vote, and The Pirate Party
« on: April 02, 2015, 07:26:04 pm »
I promised the community that we would send out a recap of my recent visit to Norway to introduce our voting solution to the Pirate Party of Norway. To this end, we've just published a story on the Follow My Vote website that covers the event! So, be sure to check out the link below:

https://followmyvote.com/follow-my-vote-and-the-pirate-party-make-plans-for-the-future-of-voting/

We've also published another story on the BitShares Blog to maximize coverage: http://bitshares.org/blog/. As an fyi, we will be promoting these blog posts, as well as the youtube video throughout the web over this week and next and will keep the community updated on how many people we reach/views we get. We'd love your help in spreading the word as well.

We'd also like to connect with someone at CoinDesk and/or CoinTelegraph to see if they'd be interested in running a story on this, as well. Does anyone have any contacts that could help us make it happen?

We were recently invited to Oslo, Norway to speak about our voting solution at a national summit.

This seems an exciting time for bts in Norway. And possible private sector' projects. A regular update would be helpful.

We're super excited about this! Since January I've been working with my brother Spectral to increase interest in the beyond bitcoin space here in Norway. This is the first result of our efforts that has been made public. We have also made other arrangements for this event, and we hope in time to be one of the key players here in Norway working for Bitcoin and 2.0 technologies. Doing meetups and fostering relationships does take time, but for the long haul it is an essential component to progress.

When is this event? I'd be interested in attending..

it will be held on March 21-22. PM me and I'll provide you with more details.

Any news?  :)

Yes, we had great fun haha :D

Adam will have a summary of the event ready soon.

Yes! Thanks CLains. We had great success in Norway!! I will be preparing a thorough update to share with the community this week and will be working with my team to plan a marketing campaign to promote the major highlights from my visit as much as possible in the days ahead.

Yes!  +5%

To clarify for the community,@CLains and @Spectral were instrumental in making this meeting possible and deserve a lot of credit for it! They are members of the Pirate Party and are big supporters of BitShares and FMV.

Doing meetups and fostering relationships does take time, but for the long haul it is an essential component to progress.

Agreed! +5%

We started a BitShares meetup group here in Blacksburg, VA, back in September of 2014. We are meeting monthly and usually have about 20-30 people in attendance. All referrals from follow-my-vote to date have been generated this way. We hope to increase both the number of regular attendees and referrals gained from these meetups in the future.

I don't agree with the strategy of approaching the public sector. I think the public sector will be hostile to the Bitshares community at first. I would like to see you approach the private sector because the private sector knows how to use email at least in the United States.

The numbers aren't great but it's a start. We can compare February to March to see if marketing is effective.

thank you for your comments. I agree that the private sector will be a lot easier to tackle. we are shifting the majority of our focus there in the near term and will keep the community posted on any noteworthy strides. to this end, we are currently exploring our options to host elections for political primaries, as it is totally up to the political parties to decide which voting systems are used in their elections and the systems used don't have to abide by any of the laws and regulations that governments backed elections, which is exciting!

with respect to the numbers, we hope to see an increase in march. but you're right, we are just getting started.

Thanks for the update ..
What I'd like to see is a status update thread for VOTE and FMV with kind of regular (biweekly or so) updates .. would that be possible?

You're welcome! To answer your question, I met with @Gentso1 today and we discussed at length the community's desire to receive more regular updates from me. He has graciously agreed to serve as a go between for me and the rest of the community, as needed. To this end, we will be meeting on a regular basis moving forward, so that I can share FMV updates with him, which he will relay to to community via the forums. He will also be standing in for me, as needed, during regularly scheduled mumbles events/dev hangouts in order to keep the community more informed.
