Technical Support / Bitshares 0.9.3 wont sync
« on: October 03, 2015, 12:48:50 pm »
I'm running 0.9.3 on my secondary drive it's drive d I downloaded Bitshares 0.9.3 and it asks me for a password. I entered a password from another one of my wallets on another computer and it logged me in, how do I make this client have a unique password that's different from my other wallet on my other computer?. After several hours the client never syncs. It always says Severe Network Problems Last Blocked Synced and it never gets past 56%

I'm using the wallet found here wallet.bitshares.org when I click on the Save button to backup keys it downloads a file names Download does that sound correct?

you could open an account with the webwallet and hold your coins there until 2.0 release in 13 days.

Please post on Reddit also to help allot of people that are like me when finished. I wonder when Poloniex is going to announce the transition will be smooth on there end. I have allot of coins on Poloniex also.
- Rest assured that you funds will be secure ..
- Currently I am writing a migration howto and am close to finishing up even more documentation
- The wallet will be run in browser .. if safari does not support all features (which I am sure it does) .. then you can install chrome or firefox to run the wallet ..
- you will need to upgrade to 0.9.3c eventually to make a bts2.0-compatible backup of your wallet .. but that you can do way later too (unless you want to claim your funds right at 2.0 launch)

Technical Support / 0.9.2 trasnsition to 2.0 question
« on: September 29, 2015, 02:20:45 am »
I'm running the 0.9.2 client on my Mac and I don't want to mess with anything since it's running good. I've heard the newest client has allot of bugs with the Mac and I don't want any issues so I'm sticking with 0.9.2. Now when 2.0 is released how do I safely upgrade to 2.0 when running 0.9.2?

Technical Support / We Need A PSA For Converting To 2.0
« on: September 21, 2015, 08:22:07 pm »
Theirs allot of new investors like myself that want to buy my coins now since they are cheap before 2.0 comes out. Allot of people are scared because they don't know how to prepare for the 2.0 transition. someone needs to make a PSA and post on Reddit on how to buy now and store your coins safely and convert to 2.0 when it comes time to do so. I feel this will bring allot more people that are on the fence into the community.

Anyone know how to change your password? Also where do I download 0.9.3? The Bitshares web site only has 0.9.2

The web wallet is excellent. Easy and fast. Still beta so no guarantees however,
I have a couple of accounts on 0.9.3 that I want to keep. Can I import them to web wallet? Can't see how.
If I later migrate to 2.0, can I import my accounts with current account names?
Thanks.  :D

The new BitShares client (0.9.3) has a extra call "wallet_export_keys" that properly formats the keys for use with BitShares 2.0.
You can also manually import your keys if you want.
I am sure the devs are already working out a proper documentatiaon

oh, wallet_export_keys is the function I was looking for. I'll make a how-to blog post on migration

I have allot of coins I don't want to use an online wallet. How does this wallet convert my coins to 2.0?

1) go to wallet.bitshares.org
2) create and account and register it
3) make a backup of your wallet (advanced settings) .. make sure you can recall the passphrase
4) send some small funds from the exchange to your account and verify that you receive it
5) repeat (incrementally) with the rest of your funds ..

All funds you can see in your wallet.bitshares.org .. will only ever be spendable by you (or who ever has access toy our private key)

Note, the web_wallet is written entirely in Javascript and now keys are exchange between your browser and a server .. they are all stored in browser ...
Hence, a backup is ESSENTIAL!!

Technical Support / Send Bitshares From Exchange To Computer

I want to make a smooth transition to 2.0 but I see no easy documentation for a beginner like me to understand. I want to take my coins from the exchange and send them to a wallet on my computer so I can upgrade to 2.0 smoothly. How do I do this? Can someone make a video example so us newbs can upgrade without messing something up?

General Discussion / Re: How do I withdrawl my BTS from Poloniex?
« on: September 12, 2015, 06:11:02 pm »
I'll be honest I'd never be able to do this. I would 100% end up messing something up. Doesn't Bitshares have a private key I can use to backup my wallet so when I mess everything up I can one day recover everything? Also do I send my Bitshares to the new wallet before changing all that directory stuff?

@marketorder

If you're using Windows OS you may find these steps helpful for a smooth install...
In your situation, you'll want to start with step#3
Hope this helps  :D

- What Steps Should I Take Saving My Old BTS Wallet Before Migrating?
First you should update to the most current BTS wallet (v0.9.2). Download links here...  https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares/releases/tag/bts%2F0.9.2
*note- please be aware BTS may have one more wallet update from v0.9.2 making migrating easier... so these steps may have to be done one more time*

(Windows) Here's a quick how-to for updating older wallet versions to v0.9.2

1. For your current client version, copy the C:\Users\*account name*\AppData\Roaming\Bitshares\wallet directory as a backup in another dir.  (Export your wallet as .json as well for safety).  If you don't have the wallets dir, create it by importing your .json file & running the client.

(IMPORTANT-Make sure you're 120% positive you did step 1 correclty BEFORE proceeding!!!)

2.  Uninstall your current version by deleting the C:\Users\*account name*\AppData\Roaming\Bitshares folder. Reboot Windows

3.  Install v0.9.2.  Before running the new client do these initial steps...
     a) go to your C:\Program Files\Bitshare\bin folder and right click BitShares.exe, go to properties>compatibility and check mark  "Run this program as Admin".
Please do this same step for the bitshares_client.exe.
     b) Make sure firewalls are set to allow Bitshares.exe and are not blocking it. Set it to allow for "Private" and "Public" network access (just in case).

4.  Now launch the BTS wallet (click yes when Admin rights pop-up)  and let it download and sync the network (*fingers crossed)

5.  If wallet sync was successful... Close the program... go back to C:\Users\*account name*\AppData\Roaming\Bitshares\wallet and proceed to copy and paste your old wallet
backup (from step 1) over the newest Bitshares dir.

6.  Run the new client again, enter password, allow it to re-scan for transaction history and you should be up and running.

Can I install the BitShares 0.9.2 wallet now and do this so I don't have to wait? So worse case scenario if they are left on  Poloniex  my coins wont be gone forever?

I emailed Poloniex today about the update to 2.0 and it doesn't seem like they will make changes for the new update. How do I safely move thousands of dollars worth of BTS? I have no computer experience at all, I need something idiot proof.

What's going to happen to my Bitshares on Poloniex if I don't take then out by the 13th of October if Poloniex doesn't update to accommodate the change to 2.0? Will my coins be gone or useless?

Don't worry, wait for 1-2 weeks, I think the Poloniex will support upgrade to BitShares 2.0 and you can left your BTS at Poloniex and move them into your wallet after upgrade.

If no, we will guide you how to install BitShares 0.9.2 wallet software and move your funds.
