I'm not sure thats a good thing.  This is a zero sum trad,e so if someone is profiting from the price differential, it means someone else is losing and possibly become disillusioned with trading on bitshares.

Couldn't one just re-short? And the potential for profit at this moment has nothing to do with previous trades.

My shorts expired yesterday but I can't access my computer until tomorrow.  What're the current rules on this?  Will the market automatically cover at feed?  Will I be hurt if I don't cover?

Market will cover at the feed. No fee or penalty. If you don't mind riding it out, you can just sit back and wait.
