Yeah, in the UK it's pretty quick and convenient to spend or send money (GBP internally within the UK):

• "Faster payments" - effectively instant payments - I think most banks use the scheme now http://www.fasterpayments.org.uk/about-us/how-faster-payments-works (http://www.fasterpayments.org.uk/about-us/how-faster-payments-works)
• Send money by SMS to someone's mobile (cell) phone number http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/saving/article-2619519/New-ways-pay-Transfer-money-text-message-simply-pay-wave.html (http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/saving/article-2619519/New-ways-pay-Transfer-money-text-message-simply-pay-wave.html)
• Contactless payment with credit and debit cards for payments under £20 ($30) http://www.theukcardsassociation.org.uk/contactless_consumer/what_is_contactless.asp (http://www.theukcardsassociation.org.uk/contactless_consumer/what_is_contactless.asp)
• Chip and PIN payments with credit and debit cards, so no need for signature.

Probably an extension of the pay-by-phone number thingy (by Monitise, I think), which someone told me was (like contactless payments) also limited to something like £50..
