Points 1, 2, and 3 all good.
Point 4 do not understand. Where I write "quit" and when?
5. What point is the GUI version?
The BitShares version 0.4.27.2?
The BitShares version 0.5.1?
Thank You.

If you run core 'bitshares_client' console client,
use this command
Code: [Select]
blockchain_is_synced

If you get 'true' response, your blockchain is synchronized with the network

Again, in the console type in "stop" or as suggested above "quite"
Code: [Select]
stop
This would stop your core client. Then proceed as described above.

The most recent GUI version is 0.8.1
You can get it from here https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/releases/tag/bts%2F0.8.1

You need to download BitShares-v0.8.1.exe file.

Technical Support / Re: No BTS balance - version 0.7.0

I have no BTS balance on Version 0.7.0.  Is there a command that I can run?  I hope it is a GUI issue and I haven't been hacked.

Is your wallet blockchain synchronized with the network?
You can look at the transaction history to see fund movement.

Good start to raise the awareness.
The wiki does not get enough attention imho.

Who is responsible for fixing the "Check for Updates" feature in the bts client?
I'll be damned if I'm gonna go thru a manual install again.

In linux debian (and Ubuntu),
For BitShares core (console) client,
'manual install' is as easy as

1) downloading the latest client (bitshares-0.7.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz at the moment) from   https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/releases/

2) unpacking

3) running 'bitshares_client' executable file

From my experience in debian 7.*, running GUI client takes some extra steps (installing qt etc).

There's a BitShares console command 'wallet_change_passphrase'.
You can view help for this command with:
Code: [Select]
help wallet_change_passphrase

Code: [Select]
Change the password of the current wallet

This will change the wallet's spending passphrase, please make sure you remember it.

Parameters:
passphrase (passphrase, required): the passphrase for encrypting the wallet

Returns:
  void

aliases: walletpassphrasechange

I never used it, so cannot comment further.
If you change the passphrase, make sure you can open your wallet with it.

You can access 'console' commands advanced menu option.
I tried linux GUI client a few times, but find console client more fun.
You can start BitShares console client (after you close GUI) running 'bitshares_client' file.

Type 'help' and you might get more reassuring experience. The GUI will catch up eventually.

Ok, at this time I would like to see a spreadsheet, one that shows:
1. todo list items (prioritized by emergencies first, bug fixes, feature additions, etc)
2. the Delegate(s) responsible for each row item
3. ETA of that item by that/those Delegate(s)
4. Notes/description

This info could be seen in
https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/issues

The progress can be tracked here.
https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/milestones From this link you can see the issues tackled in a specific release candidate. For example:

https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/milestones/dvs/0.8.0

0.8.0 is days overdue, it is frustrating, but the records are there.

Technical Support / Re: The DAC Whitepaper, Toolkit and Wiki
« on: March 19, 2015, 11:34:38 am »

1) I'd like to see us offer up DNS service (put a browser in the bts client, offer a chrome plugin, etc).
2) I'd like to do margin trading.
3) I'd like to see Bitshares and Bitassets as an option in all the different arbitrage bots.
4) I'd like a CURRENT step by step "dummies" document that shows me how/why to setup a DAC, or convert my existing companies/employees.
5) I'd like to see the Wiki become a constantly-updated eBook (a Bitshares 101 second edition)
6) I'd like to never see the terms protoshares or btsx again if those are no longer even things that I need to learn about.
7) It's imperative to have up to date documentation, esp when this community is growing and changing so rapidly.
8. I'd like to see a DESIGNATED Delegate whos' sole job is to get DNS going (.p2p, .dac, whatever). The DNS issue should NOT be a side-job or something at the end of the Bitshares todo list.
9) I'd like to see a DESIGNATED Delegate whos' sole job is to keep the wiki up to date.

Confusing people will never foster mass-adoption.

All valid points. Can take the list as a starting point for an "adoption to do list".

I removed/replaced btsx on the wiki where I could (keeping the full time job). I guess I've missed quite a few :)

The BitShares software is a work in progress. It is evolving rapidly and may leave some information here out of date.
That would probably be a challenge to keep the docs in order at this stage. Some of the work I've done a few weeks back needs to be edited again.

The docs have to be kept in order. I'd support a delegate focused on maintaining the docs.

the thread title: Cryptocurrency "The Alt-ernative" (Second Edition) VOTE
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=985422.0

The pole question: Which cryptocurrency do you want in the book?

The post text: "I vote for BitShares + 1"

Looks like similar posts were deleted from that thread.

Edit: incorrect display of the quoted post text.

I don't think there are any delegates that are supposed to keep the wiki up to date.

How do vote in that thread?
I did what you did.
How do you vote on bitcointalk.org in general?

Technical Support / Re: Why do I want to track a BitAsset?
« on: March 17, 2015, 07:42:05 am »
If I want the stability of gold or the Dollar, why don't I just buy gold or the Dollar.

If you want to keep the value of the dollar or gold, you can buy them (buying and keeping gold would already present some difficulties).

Now when the time comes to exchange the value, their utility isn't that great anymore: you can't send your dollars and gold to any place in the world under 10 seconds paying very low fee for any amount. And there's no counterparty risks.

Edit:

With BitUSD, BitCNY, BitEUR, BitGOLD, BitSILVER you can have the value of assets they represent and the convenience of exchanging them for goods and services.

General Discussion / Re: bitUSD competitor Tether is now advancing
« on: March 17, 2015, 07:20:32 am »

http://www.coindesk.com/realcoin-relaunches-tether-avoid-altcoin-association/
The title is: Realcoin Rebrands as 'Tether' to Avoid Altcoin Association

Quote
Speaking to CoinDesk, CEO Reeve Collins emphasized this line of reasoning, stating:

Quote
"We're not an altcoin, we're not our own blockchain. We're a service, a token that represents dollars. Our speciality at Tether is currencies on the blockchain, so Tether means a digital tie to a real-world asset and the digital assets that we're focused on is currencies."

In addition to the strategic repositioning, Tether also announced new partnerships in the bitcoin space, including agreements with Hong Kong-based bitcoin exchange Bitfinex, as well as fellow Brock Pierce-backed startups Expresscoin, GoCoin and ZenBox.
Quote
"These assets are created and destroyed on the fly. These are purely digital dollars. This is just representing dollars in our bank account," Collins explained.

Collins indicated that the number of Tether tokens in circulation will always equate to the dollars in its bank account, adding that there are no pegs or formulas that complicate the process for its partners.

Quote
For example, early crypto 2.0 platform BitShares has notably launched BitShares X, a family of decentralised autonomous companies (DACs) that issued its asset-backed token, BitUSD.

Collins positioned Tether as a more simplistic solution than those offered by its competitors, noting that its offerings, USTether (US+), EuroTether (EU+) and YenTether (JP+) cease to exist when they are redeemed with the service.

Hi,
Nice work.

The animation in the background makes it hard to concentrate on the written content.
Colors (background) are good but could be better organized. For news related (like on the left) one color.
For other groups slightly different.

Current background color for news, subscribe, mumble... are too prominent and drive attention from the content in the middle. Probably better used only on the left.

This is just my humble opinion.
