Title: recover transaction
Post by: Shentist on September 04, 2014, 10:26:47 pm
it seems i had a problem with my harddrive and after indexing my wallet.dat was missing in the BTSX folder

so i took my backup from some days before

- problem now - many "UNKNOWN" market transaction and my balance and holding positions are totally off.
- i read bytemaster didn't advise to do this, because of missing transaction

so what can i do?

i tried

Quote
>> recover_transaction 804e48ff

10 assert_exception: Assert Exception
has_deposit:
    {}
    bitshares  wallet.cpp:3086 bts::wallet::wallet::recover_transaction

    {}
    bitshares  wallet.cpp:3158 bts::wallet::wallet::recover_transaction

    {}
    bitshares  common_api_client.cpp:1763 bts::rpc_stubs::common_api_client::wallet_recover_transaction

    {"command":"recover_transaction"}
    bitshares  cli.cpp:481 bts::cli::detail::cli_impl::execute_command

but it didn't worked.

That is probably a market transaction.

Vikram is working on improving the ledger history (many known issues here).

I've been having the same problem, same backtrace and error message.  I think the 0.4.9 upgrade didn't go smoothly, I restored from a backup, and it's been broken since.  In my case it's a bid that I can't cancel (but fortunately I placed it back when BTSX was high, so the price is low enough that it will probably not execute until we have a nice BTSX rally).

I also have an "UNKNOWN" transaction.  I made a bid for bitUSD which was open.  My wallet crashed.  I restored the wallet but now lost the bid and the btsx involved in the trasaction which shows up as unknown in my transaction summary.  I tried wallet_recover_transaction TXID but did not work.  Any ideas how to retrieve the btsx lost?

if i understand it correct - at the moment no solution?

ok, this is a major bug!

the information that an old .json exported wallet will not be enough for market transaction was a way to late.

i hope you will consider this as well as a top priority bug. i support the btsx ecosystem the ways i can and at the moment it is by trading. so a major stake is now stucked. maybe you can provide a estimated or expected time for a solution.

Iam in the same also. Before I did update to the 4.12 I tried to back up wallet and it crashed, installed 4.12 and  now Iam missing almost 50,000 bitshares. Did all the steps to recover wallet and transactions, no luck.

It is not on the blockchain.  Check with bittrex to see if their transaction has expired or failed in some way.

hello xeroc, guys - i had issues today so had to run windows 7 system recovery. my last wallet backup was old, unfortunately (0.4.8 i believe.)

when i installed and run 0.4.12 with the backup wallet, resynced, and then discovered that all my bitUSD and bitBTC orders and transactions of today are showing BTSX outflows to UNKNOWN, so my total BTSX balance is lower than it should be and 1K bitUSD I bought today also missing.

as i understood from this thread, I input wallet_regenerate_keys kisa0145 1000 into console, saw "999" next line, and had 50%  transactions scan complete within 30 minutes (however without any improvements to the balances or record)... then the progress stopped. i tried the same command once again, then restarted bitsharesX and tried a few times more, but now always seeing "0" as output in the next line and no % scan showing.

am i trying the right command? what should i then do to rescan transactions and correct balances?

i would be grateful for a possibly "low-tech" answer! :)

Thank goodness! Bittrex admitted his error:"Sorry for the confusion, i misread your original ticket.

I've credited your account for the amount; please feel free to resubmit the withdrawal".

now installed 0.4.14 version and rescanned blockcain,, still showing BTSX outflows to UNKNOWN for each of my previous orders, while no open orders are shown. and bitUSD balance is also missing. please can someone comment how I should attempt to resolve? thx

Just used this to fix transaction labeled "Unknown" and recovered my missing bitusd
wallet_regenerate_keys ACCOUNT-NAME 1000
It works - thanks!

I have many UNKNOWN as well.
When I use wallet_regenerate_keys ACCOUNT-NAME 1000
it returns 0

I assume that means it wasn't able to produce any keys.
I've been unable to resolve most of these "unknown" / missing balance issues

1.I will shoot my highly uneducated guess here. So be advised!!! It is coming from a non-techy person!!!

run the command without the account name i.e.

wallet_regenerate_keys 1000

instead of

wallet_regenerate_keys ACCOUNT-NAME 1000

2.If this does not work, alt is saying that in some versions the client can loose the main account key (never happened to me so I do not know if it is true or not)
Find the oldest backup (json) that you have and run wallet_regenerate_keys  with it.

1. didn't work, error message
For 2. - do you mean i should replace the current "wallets" folder in Roaming/Bitshares/ with an most old backed-up "wallets" folder and then run wallet_regenerate_keys kisa0145 1000 ?

okay, now tried importing old backup... still neither bitUSD balance is showing, nor any shorts, nor any live orders...
for every ask and short order I tried on September 8th, I see BTSX outflow -> UNKNOWN...

Is this also not working?
Code: [Select]
wallet_recover_transaction <transaction_id_prefix> [recipient_account]

Finally you can try this, to see if it returns anything, but do NOT post it (it is indeed you private key):
Code: [Select]
wallet_dump_private_key ACCOUNTNAME

Have you already tried the suggestions made in
http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/RecoveringFunds
?

thanks for coming back xeroc, i really appreciate you looking into this! yes i several times tried
- wallet_regenerate_keys kisa0145 1000 (sometimes with "0" return, but several times completed 100%)
- wallet_recover_transaction 7b893f41 (and other No's)
- wallet_rescan_blockchain (sometimes failing but then completed 100%)
- doing above steps after reinstalling 0.4.12, then 0.4.14
- doing above steps after reimporting my first .json of 24. August
- doing above steps after roaming/bitshares x/wallets folder overwrite from my earlier backups

i am not a tech person, so your support is appreciated - i can't guarantee that i am not messing something up myself, but i tried for several days now. just afraid that if i try to final step of the private key reimport, as you suggest on the other thread (and tonyk suggested earlier), then even transactions to UNKNOWN which give at least some record now, would disappear, while my 1000 bitUSD balance purchased and some 120K BTSX apparently locked in orders on 8th September won't have a good chance of recover? Earlier on this thread I listed ten TXIDs which are showing to UNKNOWN. - is there a way for you or someone from devs to look into particular TXIDs in order to suggest how to proceed or what i am perhaps missing?

Title: Re: recover transaction
Post by: xeroc on September 12, 2014, 11:59:25 am
tough one :-|

I just took a look at your first tx .. it seems to be a regular short order. so it should be at the end be listed in "wallet_market_order_list USD BTSX".
If the transaction is not .. the corresponding key might have been "lost" during a upgrade or what ever (maybe database corruption or so) It still is recoverable.

I assume you have a single account and call it "kisa" and that it is registered on the blockchain ... I suggest you try the following:

1) got ton console and dump the private key "wallet_dump_private_key kisa" (write it down .. DO NOT SHARE AT ALL COST!! )
2) shutdown your client
3) go to your %appdata% folder and rename(!!) the whole thing (BitSharesX) -- keep a copy ..
4) open up the client again .. you will be asked to recreate a wallet .. do so .. (use can use the same passphrase)
5) go to console and import your private key from step 1 via "wallet_import_private_key <KEY>" (no further options)
6) your account name "kisa" should reappear in your wallet (probably empty)
7) in console run: "wallet_regenerate_keys kisa 1000"
8) in console run "rescan"

no wait ... takes AT LEAST 30 minutes for the wallet to catch up and resync.
you can check the progress with "getstatus"!
Title: Re: recover transaction
Post by: kisa on September 12, 2014, 02:39:58 pm
danke sehr xeroc for detailed explain.
- renamed BitsharesX in %appdata%
- started client and created an empty wallet
- after blocks synced imported my private key -> wallet has found my account name
- regenerated wallet keys from console -> just one transaction out of 14 total was found
- rescanned blockchain -> no further changes, so now missing all but one transactions
- e.g. wallet_recover_transaction 7b893f41 now returns transaction_not_found
- now also missing original BTSX funds from GENESIS block / PTS snapshot ;/

i know there will likely be another resolution, yet i can't help that getting somewhat worried...

First thank you for being such a polite and patient user.

This is a bug that is out of the usual and known solutions.

I *assume* that a new release will fix these issues soon, or the developers will work with you directly to resolve this.  I suppose this should be made into a github issue.

That should be added to the wiki so we can ask people to make bug reports and interact in a more efficient way with the developers.  TBH I'm a developer (not for bitshares, but have wrote code on/off for decades.. ) and I still have not become comfortable with github.  hmm.  Anyway..  rest assured they'll be doing everything they can to fix these things.

Ok .. another shot in the wild:
- have you ever moved ALL your stake to some account name?
If not your will NEED to reimport your wallet/private_keys from the PTS/AGS snapshot!! (they are unlinked/unrelated to your account private key)!!

- as each transaction generating new one-time-use keys, and if the latest version of the wallet was not backed up, i am hearing that this creates wallet issues...

hey xeroc - never moved all my stake away from kisa0145 account. just experimented with bitsharesX trading one day...
(i also doubt such issue arises just because i registered account on blockchain AFTER importing funds from PTS snapshot?)

- do i have to reimport private keys from PTS snapshot into the existing btsx wallet i created today when reimported BTSX pvt key?
- do i do this under tab "Keys" -> Import Keys from Wallet -> pts_wallet.dat ?

okay, good news is that PTS key has been sucessfully imported! :)
and that transaction scan started automatically with the balance already showing  funds from GENESIS transfer already ;)

the bad news sofar, is that some 120K BTSX and 1000bitUSD seem still missing... i can try regenerating wallet keys again, but perhaps worth giving devs some time to upgrade to the new version...

Title: Re: recover transaction

maybe you give us a list where you got which stake ... maybe we forget something simple here

please elaborate - i don't understand your question re stakes? i just have one account
previously listed all tx id's showing outflows to unknown from my trading/orders on september 8th...
i had 1000 bitUSD balance, which was bought in 2 tranches of 500,
- then i had open orders to sell 500 bitUSD, short 500bit USD, buy 1 bitBTC and short 1bit BTC, as well as some cancelled orders.
- so my assumption is that 10 outflows of roughly 12500 BTSX each to UNKNOWN could correspond to
2 x  buy 500 bitUSD
2 x BTSX for one short order 500 bitUSD
2 x BTSX for one short order 1 BTC
1 x buy order 1 BTC
... what else? i am not so sure now, maybe it was more open orders... I was just going to experiment and learn how trading works..

is the syncing finished in the wallet? "getinfo"?
do you see transactions in your history?

run
"wallet_recover_transaction TXID"
for every single TXID again

ok .. same issue again then ..

I just heard of BM that there still is a issue in the client ..
but would you anyway post this to the github issue tracker, or shall I do that for you?
https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit/issues

Be ensured, that your funds are still on the blockchain and will NOT get lost ..
keys are deterministic .. once the bug is fixed you will be able to accees them again

For Satoshi's sake, please please do not start BitSharex marketing until each and every one of the messages in this conversation is either obsolete or moot.

Mere mortals ( even with PhDs like kisa ) cannot handle this !

IMHO, the entire wallet and all of its accounts and transactions should be recoverable from a https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BIP_0039 style 12-word seed phrase

that is already possible now .. there are just some bugs that make it a little difficult CURRENTLY!

and yes .. big marketing will only start once the wallet is stable and more usable ..

I added this http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/BitShares_X_Solutions#Reporting_bugs_to_the_developers

It is same link xeroc gave but also has a nice youtube video I found about creating issues.  (I know... too late.. but FYI)

And what is the secret series of incantations (console commands) to do this ?

now reading that BM warned here https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8156.0 that attempts to restore from older back-ups, and market activity in particular, would cause problems at this stage. i must admit that i didn't read through best practices thread early enough due to wrong prioritization of time allocation. so i discovered that appying certain practices which worked fine with other cryptos to BTSX can easily be wrong, and for a non-tech person even more so. as the system crash during trading, and the older wallet backup is used, then unfortunately issues arise...

but still ... theses "issues" do not make you loose funds ... the issues he is basically talking about is "loosing" of memo and recipient information ..
The keys for the exchange/market are still derived deterministically and can always be recovered from the account private key ..
It's just an inconvenience for the user

yeah i know, just feel somewhat embarassed that both myself and user support + devs have to take time and effort to address issues which could have been avoided if I was more aware and attentive. well, this is a learning process for all of us - and learning never ends ;) and in the end the winning platform will likely be the fool-proof one *lol*

If it makes you feel better .. I am currently having the exact same issue .. :-|
at least on one machine ...

on another machine (same wallet) .. i still see the bitUSD .. so they are still there and under my control ..  :-)

If anyone restored an older wallet backup but is missing market funds even after regenerating keys, there may be a fix in the next version to regenerate the proper keys to claim those funds: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9194.msg123277#msg123277

Recipient and memo information in the wallet will still probably be missing, but this will be addressed in the future when the transaction scanning is rewritten.
