Title: Support for Discourse
Post by: bitbro on August 22, 2014, 11:20:45 am
Let's switch to Discourse, We don't want to be looking 20 years out of date as the masses stop by our site!

What benefits will it bring to the table?
Looks only?
I've seen several people supporting Discourse. However I haven't seen a single post explaining why it is better.
Care to enlighten me ?

Newcomers are more attracted to it and have a greater likelihood of sticking around and subscribing - I know we all love this format, but it's in the numbers

What data do you have to prove this ?

PS: Sorry if it seems like I'm an ass. I'm just trying to help you explain better to everyone why you think Discourse is better.

I think it's time we looked at upgrading the type of platform our forum runs on.  Are there other options besides Discourse?  I'm not married to this if we can improve it.  B

Change should be driven by necessity and/or benefits. Unless someone clearly states what will be improved and what benefits will it bring us - there will be skepticism.

Discourse has better features. Just look at Ethereum https://forum.ethereum.org/ .
As you can see users can sign in with Facebook or any of the popular social media.

Why can't we do that here?

The main thing is discourse is more extensible as a code base. We could add DAC elements and features to it. We can't do that with this outdated forum. If the goal is to improve marketing start by having a forum which the masses would want to use.

NP, it's a reasonable question. We will release some Google Analytics user flow data next week once we have enough data.

Our reply on the other thread (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=7040.msg98739#msg98739) might be useful for some too.

creating a pro vs. con list for both forum apps would be great, wouldn't it?
