Title: Can I find account name by the BTSX address?
Post by: Simeon II on July 22, 2014, 06:50:09 am

I need the name for this one:
BTSX4uyNs42DY8B62o2Z3xbdMo4boEhucPnxmTCrj4GezESt3Z1rTE

But also how to do it in general.

If thats the destination of a titan transaction you just cannot tell the name

and it's not part of the genesis block .. so: no chance

How are people depositing in BTER then? That's the only info they provide.

Does it works with Linux with account # and no name? Sorry stupid win user I am.

You add it as a local contact account first and then send to it just like a registered account.  The command line is wallet_add_contact_account <user name> <key>
In the GUI you go to your account select transfer, and then to the right of the contact name entry box there should be a green button with a + and a little person.  Click that to add a local contact account.

**edit**  I just tried and bter is already registered under another key, so it wont allow you to create a local account that conflicts with a registered account.  just name it something that hasn't already been registered.

I think I get the same error from the GUI.

I think you get the problem because account name bter already registered in blockchain, select another name, to make it's simple I suggest to prefix all your local account as for example local-bter

names need to be all lowercase.  I just tried with bter.com in the gui and it worked for me.

**testz idea is better than mine

1. Read netiquette
2. Calm down
3. read about titan and why we are doing as we are
4. read github issues and forums posts and realize that the devs are working on allowing to send to an address

OK new issue.

This local account that I created was something like 'bter6789567345' ie nothing that I remember.
It does not appear in the drop down of the GUI and I can not re-register local account with the same local public address/key.

So how I dig out the previously created  local account?

You should see all of them at Directory->Unregistered

No, I do not see it in the unregistered tab.

Trying xeroc's way now.... but I have to know what I am trying to remove, or ALL works.
[edit] no 'ALL' it does not work.

Catch 22 in my case... If I knew the account name I would not have to remove it...

Actually my previous transaction went to a^17 (or whatever his name is) not to BTR.

[edit] actual accnt: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

At least that is what my ledger says.

Potentially big issue!

Much bigger than newbie sending funds to address instead  to name!!!

ok now, nobody, it seems, have any fresh ideas what to do with this issue- so I will just go to bed now.

All other problems aside, the transaction going to somebody else (assuming it is not my error) is big enough problem for somebody to look into this.

Can you give me the exact command you entered that caused it to go to the wrong account?
Title: Re: Can I find account name by the BTSX address?

As instructed here I did:

wallet_add_contact_account btermy134345789789 BTSX4uyNs42DY8B62o2Z3xbdMo4boEhucPnxmTCrj4GezESt3Z1rTE

and then used the GUI to make the transfer. The name -‘bter_abunchofanumbers’ - appeared back then in the drop-down menu.

I also added that address as a local contact account last night.  Today it doesn't show in my directory > unregistered either, but when I wallet_list_accounts I get
Code: [Select]
>> wallet_list_accounts

NAME (* delegate)                  KEY                                                             REGISTERED            FAVORITE       APPROVED
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa                  BTSX4uyNs42DY8B62o2Z3xbdMo4boEhucPnxmTCrj4GezESt3Z1rTE

Which is the correct key.  My guess is that the key has been registered since last night, and so now it is showing up strangely in the UI.
