Title: delegate.liondani... Updated publish delegate data !
Post by: liondani on July 30, 2014, 09:06:44 am
 (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xKPADdfisws/U78IFymb_JI/AAAAAAAAC-I/qx_DE4-mD5U/s1600/liondani_bitshares.png)

My name is Daniel Schwarz and I am from Greece (My father is from Germany,my mother from Greece)
I am an active member on bitsharestalk since 11 March 2014 and I am very proud for that!
You can take a look on my member profile and make conclusions about my activity by yourself  :)
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=10831 (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=10831)

Your support/vote is much appreciated and will make the network more secure. It is very importand for the network security to vote for 1)trusted 2)individuals
that are preferable located on 3)different Country's and have 4)great equipment. So take a look on my sub.account delegate:
delegate.liondani(http://robohash.org/set_1/delegate.liondani?size=75x75)
http://bitsharesblocks.com/delegates/delegate?name=delegate.liondani
(2 personal Linux servers* located at my home in Greece)

Pay rate right now is @ 3%
10% will go to charity

mf-tzo (Zeus) suggested me  "The smile of the child" http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home and I am ok with that for sure...

After thinking very serious about where to send the charity I concluded to http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home
They are making really a great work and it is easier to me to give proof that I donated the funds. They have a paypal account and I will provide the needed screenshots every month that proof my/your donations to their paypal account..I will send the funds via my email: d*****@********.gr
I will try to get in contact with Konstantinos Giannopoulos (Κωνσταντίνος Γιαννόπουλος) the president of the organization and try to convince him to accept bitshares directly as well (that would be great so we could attract a new demographic) . Right now 10% of my income will go to them.

I will try to maintain only 1 delegate:

delegate.liondani (payrate 77%)

please:
wallet_approve_delegate delegate.liondani

I have concluded that the best delegate behavior is to have only one delegate with a "fair" payrate % for a number of reasons:

1.It is more secure for the network to have 101 different individuals as delegates. If for example everybody have 2 active delegates, then the individuals are 50 and the network more centralized
    and less secure.
2.It is very difficult to promote optimal more than 1 delegate...
3.We don't need more delegates than 1 for charity or other reasons, but only a fair payrate percentage that allows as to give a portion of the remaining stake for any cause we need.
4.The competition will see the multiple delegates for single individuals as a negative (and they are right) and they will use it against us....
5.It is fair for the standby delegates.... (what about the conversation we had for paying them also before they get active?)

edit: 10% to http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home
PS I will give as a charrity 10% to my Church "Saint Nektarios" in Greece. (Koinotita Agiou Konstantinou, Lavrio Kamarizas, ATHENS)

I totally agree that is why I opted for only one delegate that combines everything. What do you think about 10% of revenue, will that cover expenses? You were running at 5% before and mentioned that nearly covered the expenses.

Don't give anything to a church...They already have more than enough. I would prefer if you donate to "smile for children" and help the orphans. They definitely need these money more than any religious people. If you donate to any orphans and I am present I can verify this to the rest of the community (if my word has any meaning as a confirmation-reassurance to the rest that you did actually donate to a worthwhile charity)

I know many have bad experience or have no trust, but I have personal experience how the priest there help realy kids and familys they have a real problem in the best way. In other case I wouldn't do that. Please don't be negative for all Churches...
But I can for sure consider to expand the percentage of 10% to give to "smile for children" also. (I trust this organization also, thanks for suggesting it http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home (http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home) )

As bytemaster mentioned right now (some days earlier) the delegates on average with about 85% payrate earn about $125/month
I will make calculations for my delegate and I will edit this post to make things clearer so you can make estimates  ;)
(My gui windows client is still syncing)

edit:
My delegate liondani
has produced:  3064 blocks
pay rate:  5%
total pay balance: 209.08469 BTSX

in one month (30days) with 100% reliability a delegate produce about 2566 blocks  [(30x24x60x60)/10sec /101 delegates = 2566]
that means my delegate with 5% pay rate  has earned 175 BTSX in one month.
With current BTSX prices it's 175x 0.04 USD= $7 !!!
If I had 100% payrate I would own $140/month and with the average 85% payrate that delegates have right now I would get $119 (about the price bytemaster allready mentioned)

A vps costs from $30-$100 per month.
A server here in Greece cost's only on electricity $100-$150 (estimated, I will confirm in a month our so)

Of course we must see the bigger picture  8)
What will we earn in future ?
Or what have we allready earned due our investment on BTSX early...(?)

I hope the numbers helped someone  ;)

I see multiple delegates still running:

liondani
delegate.liondani
liondani-linux
liondan-delegate-1
liondani-delegate-2
liondani-delegate-3
liondani-delegate-4
liondani-delegate-5
[...]

Two of these are top delegates. Did you change your mind about running only 1?

If he's only advertising one, people should stop voting for the others so he doesn't have to hurt the network by shutting them down to get them voted out.

What's the point of having a large number of delegates on standby? Each person should invest their resources in maintaining a single strong delegate. If that delegate goes down for an extended period it will be voted out. It should be a rare event, and does NOT require 10+ other delegates on "standby". The whole "standby" delegate thing is no different than having multiple top delegates per person - it is promotes centralization.

I want only 1

delegate.liondani

all other names was just an experiment to see wich delegates gets more votes depended on payrate...

liondani-delegate-1   payrate 10%
liondani-delegate-2   payrate 20%
liondani-delegate-3   payrate 30%
liondani-delegate-4   payrate 40%
liondani-delegate-5   payrate 50%
liondani-delegate-6   payrate 60%
...
..
etc.

I will change the status for the standby delegates...     wallet_delegate_set_block_production to "false"
How can I make the transition  to normal accounts again (no delegates anymore)? Is it possible?

I am waiting someone with much voting power to vote out my active delegates :

1.  liondani
2.  liondani-delegate-1

but/and replace them with:

delegate.liondani

No I didn't change my mind I hope I will have at the end only one strong delegate
Thanks all for your trust. It is a great honor to have an active delegate on this network and I promise to do my best as everyone of you already do!  ;)

That is very annoying, however I think not too big deal, main thing is you are involved and communicating and keeping people up to date.  Let us know if you figure it out.  I'm also voting for you by the way, thanks for the good introduction.

It was a "segment fault" and my client crashed when I was not @ home... Now all it's fine.
Just to be sure I installed the client from scratch and I restored my backup.json file after the wallet synced

It was a very bad experience, believe me.The about 50% decline of BTSX price does not hurt me so much like these missed blocks  :)  (yes I know, maybe I am a little bit crazy)

PS BTW I voted you too  ;)

That does sound like a bad experience, glad it worked out OK in the end.

I must be a little crazy in the same way as far as missing blocks, even though I never expect to make much money off being a delegate it sucks to know you've let the network down those rounds.

Thanks for the votes.

and unlock the wallet through the RPC via a cronjob

Alt's solution keeps it in memory.
You can read it in the beginning of the script (when you first run it) from commandline and keep it into a variable.
In order to obtain it a hacker should be able to read the memory of your server. If he is able to do that then your password shouldn't be your highest priority...

Another solution is to store the script in binary form on the server (the password string should be scrambled and re-created runtime).

The total earning's from all delegates I had control are: 1650,86959 BTSX
10% will go to "the smile of the Child" http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home
that means 165 BTSX

165 * 0.032656 = $5.3724 =  € 4.15

But because it is my first donation I decided to give all my earnings until now 1650 BTSX = about 40 euros...
I rounded it up and there we are:   ;)

Normaly I should donate 165 BTSX = about 4 euros...
But because it is my first donation I decided to give all my earnings until now 1650 BTSX = about 40 euros...
I rounded it up and there we are:   ;)
+5% nice of you to round upwards :)

Well done!

Is it possible when you make a donation to let them know that this is from BitsharesX in order to get some publicity? In any case this is awesome since the chosen organisation definitely needs money and will make good use of them! :)

Congratulations and keep up the good work!

After thinking very serious about where to send the charity I concluded to http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home
They are making really a great work and it is easier to me to give proof that I donated the funds. They have a paypal account and I will provide the needed screenshots every month that proof my/your donations to their paypal account..I will send the funds via my email: d***********.gr
I will try to get in contact with Konstantinos Giannopoulos (Κωνσταντίνος Γιαννόπουλος) the president of the organization and try to convince him to accept bitshares directly as well (that would be great so we could attract a new demographic) . Right now 10% of my income will go to them. I would love to consider increasing it to 20% especially if they will accept bitshares as a officially donation method  ;)

You are doing a good cause with the btsx and I like to support what you are doing with some of my votes.  Do keep it up!

Just like the above author, I wonder if it is possible to make known to the beneficiary that they are getting the donation as part of the Bitsharex community's effort.

I will try to get our bitshares logo here:
http://www.hamogelo.gr/23.2/Our-Sponsors
and here:
http://www.hamogelo.gr/46.2/Support-us  ;)

I will get in touch as a first step with Secreteriat ΝΙΚΟLΕΤΑ ΚΑΜPΥLI and as a second step if possible with
the president Yannopoulos Konstantinos as said before....

How about creating an account fund only for this organization so more delegates can sent a percentage there, and every month the account will send them the funds that represents all
delegates? This account could be controlled from somebody we trust all (like bytemaster) and it would increase the chances to let them integrate bitshares as an officialy donation gate/method because of the signically amount of donations every month... let me know what you think of this or give me ideas how to negotiate with them better...

PS thanks for your kind words guys  :)

already back at 100% participation .. don't take it too hard .. it's just some arbitrary blocks .. some few EUR lost .. not worth being in bad mood .. take a look at the price rise .. that will make you feel better again ;-)

Strange way to miss a block ...  ???

lets explain.
I missed the block 458545...
I was in panic again. I checked and I saw that I had the wallet unlocked for only 60 minutes the last time I "played" with the servers around.
That's not the weird thing since I admit it's very possible I unlocked the wallet without using a variable like 99999999 and it was unlocked by default only for 60 minutes....
So I suppose I lost the block because my wallet got to a "locked" mode/state....

But why I didn't miss more blocks after this one ?
why?
why?
...

... and then I saw this one 1 page up on the linux cli client as a message....:

Code: [Select]
"Wallet not automatically relocking because there are enabled delegates!"

"that's why!" I said to my self...
lets type: info

Code: [Select]

we have 99% participation .. only dac.sun is missing blocks .. all looks good from here ..

whenever a delegate is active you can ignore the 'autolock' feature completely

after the last missed block 458545
now I produced my first one : 458939

But why did I not produced one single block after I lost the block 458545 for about 1 hour? (even my delegate was active and the client running...)
458939-458545=394 blocks multiplied by 10 seconds =3940 seconds = 65  minutes....

We making a push to get delegates to publish feeds for this?  As I understand it, it only makes sense if the market depth is there right?  Is the market depth there?

I'll add EUR to my price feed script as well.

I'm having some unexplained missed blocks too.
Client was running fine.
I had internet connectivity and plenty of connections.
There were no CPU or HDD spikes.
Still I missed some blocks.
Have you found the reason for your missed blocks ?

I will investigate further tomorrow and inform you. Maybe there is a connection with your case (?)
...for 65 minutes after I have missed with a strange way one block (458545) I have not produced a single block and every time it was my turn, someone else produced it and it was not
recorded as a missed block to me!

I'm observing similar issues. I've checked bitsharesblocks.com too but there are some inconclusive results. As I'm on a holiday I do not have much time for investigation.

I am missing blocks right now but I can't check my server for the next 7 hours....
The participation is right now at 89% so I assume it doesn't necessary mean my server is off-line!

I don't want to run the delegate from the VPS right now before I am sure about what is happening, so I want to be sure that I don't' will be  the reason of fork a creation.

So the question:
Is anybody else missing blocks right now for no apparent reason?
What is happening right now? Why so many delegates are missing blocks right now?
Coincidence or something else?

PS after I missed the first block it produced some and then I lost 4 consecutive blocks. So that means my server is not off-line and the client is working.
But why am I missing blocks every now and then?

Both my 2 delegates www.minebitshares-com and www2.minebitshares-com have also missed blocks recently without explanation for the first time.

They both run on Amazon AWS instances and nothing has changed apart from upgrading to 0.4.16   :'(

Same problem, my states still v0.4.17 ...
I guess it's an issue for bitsharesblocks...
Before 20 minutes it stated it was 2000 blocks in past!!!
Could it be that his server are getting versions data every 30 minutes or something like that and not in "real time", just to let their server not taking to much resources ?

Interestingly, during compile .. the code takes the last git tag ... which seems to be the RC tag currently :)

I am on git-master and not on a particular tag .. that might be the cause

If you ask me it doesn't picked up the last git tag... but it was a "random" selection....

Why is that?

The blockchain tells me your are on 0.4.18 .. so all is fine .. seems to be a issue with the explorer

I updated to .. but my version field still states -RC .. how is yours?

Same problem, my states still v0.4.17 ...
I guess it's an issue for bitsharesblocks...
Before 20 minutes it stated it was 2000 blocks in past!!!
Could it be that his server are getting versions data every 30 minutes or something like that and not in "real time", just to let their server not taking to much resources ?

Sorry I missed this conversation, I think if you include @svk in the conversation I'll get a notification for the thread.

I'm not sure why your version updates never seem to get counted correctly, is it still a problem? You've got v0.4.18 on the site from my work computer, and I'm pretty sure that was already the case yesterday from home.

I'm pulling the delegate info every 2 minutes I think, and the table should update without a refresh on the same frequency. Whenever you guys notice something wrong, please don't hesitate to PM me and I'll look into it.

@svk :  (testing notification)
here the -RC issue is not explorer related .. its the client which takes the git tag .. however I compiler git-HEAD and thus there is some issue with the version tag .. still not your fault!

Have all a good and profitable month  ;)

My standing (pay balance) since the last withdraw at 8 September is at 2788 BTSX
10% will go to the charity organization "The smile of the child" http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home
that means 279 BTSX = 9.2 euro  rounded up to 10 euro  (invoice screen shot in next posts)

40 euro will go to my first VPS Located in Greece.
I still don't have used it to constribute on bitshares network because I was testing it all the last month and I was experimenting with it.
I will use it as a seed node from this month for bitsharesx network since it seems very stable with 100% uptime:

Specifications:
---------------------------
2 core CPU
4 GB RAM
1T monthly bandwidth
Ubuntu 14.04
40GB SSD hard disk drive

O know that I would pay the half money for a VPS from "Digital Ocean" for example but the logic behind my decision was to contribute more security wise
choosing a server that is physically  located in Greece and with a company that has a great reputation here*. (My 2 home servers in Greece will continue to host my delegate.liondani for producing the blocks)

Just for your information I lost 3 blocks in a row (850609,850623,850723) for no apparent reason and as a result I was on a fork...
My server had no problem at that time! On the last missed block I was watching and everything was ok with the system (I was on the main chain also since I restarted after the second missed block).
Everything is ok right now after restarting again...

Anybody with same problems? Has anybody identified what happened?
The participation on the main blockchain was at 70% (?) at time ... strange...
Thoughts ? (maybe  @riverhead ? )

I suppose you are looking at bitsharesblock.com for the network health.
I think there might be something wrong there.
There is nothing wrong with the blockchain.
There were a few missed blocks ... but nothing that could lower the participation rate to 70% .
"blockchain_average_delegate_participation": "100.00 %",

EDIT: Furthermore missing blocks might not be always a fault on your end. The strange thing is that when you miss a block a.delegate.charity is just after your slot.
There might be a pattern here.

Yea I think delegate participation must've been wrong all weekend on my site, somehow the client was perpetually stuck 6 minutes behind. I didn't have access to it over the weekend but restarted it this morning and it immediately synced up fully.

Have all a good Month. I am sure this month will be much better than the last one ;)

My unique delegate.liondani earned the last month 3613,22511 BTSX = $0.015874 x 3613 = $57.35 = 45.8 euro
10% aka 362 BTSX (5 euro) will go for charity to http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home (I will provide these days the recipe screenshot  ;))
and the rest (40 euro) will go for the VPS subscription that host the seednodes for bitshares and keyid...

When I account the electricity costs for my personal server that host my delegate.liondani I am at a loss...  :(
That is the last think that concerns me of course.Compared with the loss I had due the BTSX crash lately, that's nothing...
Well, not a good month from the economic perspective. But it was real fun and I enjoyed it! Many client updates, many news, many talks here on the forum, VPS tweakings and I gave
for the first time seednodes for bitsharesx and keyid located of course here in Greece....  I want desperately that we succeed all together... Have a nice day and I wish it will be one of our best Months  ;)

Have all a nice Month !!!

The last one Month (until now) I received with my unique 3% delegate.liondani
4,033.244 BTS . Like always I will donate 10% for charity to http://www.hamogelo.gr/1.2/home
That means 404 BTS = $7.28 = 5.82 euro ... I will round up and sent them 10 euro... (which will be the minimum I will sent them from now on each Month if 10% is less than 10 euro... and it's again very little... )

I have in my mind a new delegate proposal for me and I hope I can afford to donate a little bit more than that if my plan/delegate get your permission to get active...
As soon as I am ready I will make here the proposal announcement public ;)

40 euro are going to the vps I have for the seednode client
and about 80 euros are the electricity costs to have 2 servers 24 hours a day open locally on my home in Greece for my active delegate.liondani (one main server and one backup server)

Expenses about 130 euro
Income= 4033 bts = 59 euro
Total=  -71 euro

Title: delegate.liondani... also establish a chain-server located in Greece!
Post by: liondani on December 17, 2014, 10:42:22 pm
Cause the latest difficulties for some delegates to sync with the main chain,
I decided to run a chain server on my VPS in Greece to make it easier for all of you to download the right chain without the risk to sync on a minority fork
and much much faster !

chain server details:    185.25.22.21:1375

To sync from this chain server, first locate your config.json file. This file will be located in the BitShares  data directory, which is placed in these locations by default:

Windows: %APPDATA%/BitShares(Try going to Start->Run and opening %APPDATA%, then open the BitShares folder)
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/BitShares (Open a Finder window and press Command-Shift-G, then paste in the path)
    Linux: ~/.BitShares

In this folder, find the config.json file and open it with your preferred text editor (Mac users may use TextEdit and Windows users may use Notepad). In this file, find the chain_servers list, which is located by default immediately after the default_peers list. If you do not see chain_servers in your config.json, your config.json was created by an old version of BitShares. Delete config.json and restart your client, then open it again. If there is still not a chain_servers section, update your BitShares client.

When you have found the chain_servers section in your config.json, modify that section to add  chain server as follows:

"chain_servers": ["185.25.22.21:1375"],

When finished, there should only be one chain_servers line (ignore the chain_server section) and make sure that this line looks like the one above and ends with a comma. Save your changes and close config.json. The next time you start your client, it should sync from the new chain server before connecting to the P2P network.  ;)
