Title: Vote for me :)
Post by: CoinHoarder on August 25, 2014, 02:27:49 pm
Hi,

I'm not sure if it's too late to try to get votes or not. It seems like most people in the top 101 started a month or two ago but I thought I would try nonetheless.

I have been around the crypto currency community for a couple years and mostly hang out on bitcointalk. I have been supporting Bitshares and shutting down FUDsters over there... fighting the good fight. :)

I would appreciate your vote if you have some free time. I setup a digital ocean VPS running on Ubuntu at 75% pay rate, so it should be pretty low latency and stable.

Thanks for your time,

Whats a guy gotta do to get some votes around here?!  8)

Hopefully I don't have to resort to this level! (NSFW) http://youtu.be/P-hUV9yhqgY

In all seriousness, how did some people get something like 200 million plus votes?? I paid 25$ for this VPN so I want to try and make this work, any suggestions would be welcome on how to gain votes. I'll probably just cancel it in a month if I fail. Why only 101 delegates..? That kind of sucks. :(

Thanks for any help

Thank you for the advice. I have decent trust feedback on Bitcointalk if that counts for anything. I also maintain a thread for innovative crypto currencies that I have rated Bitshares pretty highly on. :)

I have also handled over 1000 Bitcoins in the past year and a half with Bitcoin ASIC group buys... I am pretty trustworthy IMO:

People also trusted me enough to buy over 4000 physical Litecoins that I assembled, this is my business (although I'm taking a break from it for a bit): cryptovest.com (http://cryptovest.com)

I might try and come up with a business plan similar to my Cryptovest business... like making physical Bitshares with the profits from the delegation.. that might work... you tell me. I'm already charging 75% less than most of the delegates.. so I guess that is kind of like a business plan.. more fees for you guys. ;D

Another strategy is to bring in some of your outside supporters. If you are trusted on another forum, bring some members from that other forum here, get them to download the BTSX wallet and get registered, and soon they can vote for you also.

Yeah, that could work. I do have a few people I could hit up. :)

I guess I'll think it over a bit more and come up with a plan. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for your support. I am dedicated to making Bitshares a success in helping out any way I can. Since I left the Litecoin community I've been looking for a place to call home, and I like what you guys are doing over here and want to help.

Thank you guys very much for voting for me... I made it in the top 100 !!! I guess someone threw a lot of votes behind me, I am thankful for that!! :)

I thought everything was running fine until I just realized that me having my accounts open on the windows client trading bitUSD/BTSX was stopping me from participating as a delegate on the VPN... I feel really stupid as I was at 0% participation <facepalm>. I will be more careful about this in the future, just a noob mistake. I think I need to delete my accounts from the windows wallet and only add back my non-delegate account. I just thought I'd explain why I'm at such low participation.. it should get better as I sleep and be more accurate in the morning. It is already up to 20% from 0% just after 5 minutes or so. Anyways.. thanks again everyone! I promise to pull my weight around here!

Cheers

Looks like you're up and running and you only missed 8 blocks so far, the percentage reliability may look bad atm but it will get better very quickly!

Welcome to the club :)

Yeah.. I totally spaced that me having my accounts open in two instances was messing it up. I'll delete the delegate account from my personal computer in the morning. Gotta start somewhere I guess, but I should of checked sooner.

Anyways.. thanks for the welcome!  :D

For some reason I am unable to search for you in delegates.

Not sure why..

It seems I was voted back out due to my error last night... that was short lived. I would appreciate some support to help me get back in the top 100.

Cheers

Well, I got voted back in happily the day after making my last post ITT. My reliability has increased a lot since making that hiccup my first day as a delegate. I am now at 95.5% reliability, and I expect it to further increase as time goes on as I have been keeping close watch of my delegate. I've also been performing all upgrades quickly, and keeping my price feeds up to date.

I have gone down like ~20 spots today though and I'm now sitting in the 101 slot. I would appreciate your votes to help keep me in. :)

In case you were not aware, I have revealed my identity for all to know if it makes you feel more comfortable about voting for me. Here is that info:

I would appreciate your votes. I have no problem revealing my identity. My participation is a bit low right now, but that is because I've only been a delegate for a couple days. I made a silly error on the first day and missed 8 blocks which gave me 0% participation <facepalm.jpg>. I fixed the problem and my participation has increased to above 90%.. it should get better as I am keeping a close eye on my VPN and updating price feeds regularly. I have good trust in the Bitcoin and  Litecoin community, and have been operating Bitcoin/Litecoin mining farms for about two years now so I am more than capable of operating a delegate. My pay rate is 75%, no charities or anything at the moment! but I am helping out in other ways around the forums as much as possible. Along with telling people about Bitshares on Bitcointalk on my main thread and defending it on others: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=225659.0

I have also been ttrying to help provide technical support to users that are having issues, and I am still defending Bitshares as always from FUDsters on Bitcointalk. :)

This was my latest conquest:

i'll take actual USD in my possession over BITUSD any day for a long long time.

I'm talking about actual physical cash (USD).

lol as if I didn't realize that banks operate on digital cash (USD).

There are obviously some advantages to having physical cash compared to bitUSD (Bitshare's digital USD version), but there are also some disadvantages. I think it is silly to write off the whole idea of decentralized market pegged assets due to their real life counterparts being "safer." Do you also not have a bank account, not use debit or credit cards, and never buy gift cards as presents? I would argue all of those things are not as safe as "physical cash in your possession." Furthermore, you could make the argument that Bitcoin/Litecoin are not as safe as physical cash in your possession.. I just don't get your point.

The advantages of having physical cash in your possession are pretty obvious, so I will highlight some of the disadvantages. Physical cash can be:
- Easily confiscated by the government [bitUSD- (if you secure it properly) could not confiscated]
- Easily taxed (no one can force taxes on transactions with a decentralized block chain)
- Limited transactions (you can't send it anywhere in the world on a whim)
- Someone can easily short change you without you noticing (cannot happen with cryptocurrencies)
- Someone can give you fake dollar bills as change or payment (cannot happen with cryptocurrencies)
- You cannot easily speculate on the price of the dollar with cash (with bitUSD you can conveniently go long or short)
- Etc.

There are uses for decentralized digital forms of FIAT and commodities, and that is what makes Bitsharesx valuable (and me a fan boy of them.)  ;D

That moment when you realize you lowered your pay rate to 1% while publishing your version... facepalm.jpg

I think I am going to create a new delegate and ask for people to vote my current one out, as I can't really afford to be paying for a VPS and I need the delegate pay to cover the expenses. Would everyone be OK with me doing this & still support me? It is kind of embarrassing to have to ask this, but I would appreciate ya'lls support! Sorry for the inconvenience, I will be more careful in the future as to not accidentally lower my pay rate. If not, I'm probably just going to ask everyone to vote me out as I can't really afford the VPS costs. Let me tell you a little bit about what I've been up to during the past month as part of my delegate campaign and why you should keep me on board. My delegate campaign is kind of random, but I have been trying to help out where I can. :)

Most of my time has probably been spent trying to convince people BitsharesX is awesome and they should buy some and join us. I think growing the community and user base is important, along with trying to convince Bitcoin PoW people that DPOS isn't evil! I have been doing this mostly on Bitcointalk, but my website gets decent traffic as well.. I am trying to work on the SEO so it gets more exposure.

I have been providing some tech support to users here when I have the time, and updated the wiki a few times with support related things.. I am planning to update the Delegate page with some tips and applicable commands that are missing. I am also on planning on updating my Windows wallet troubleshooting section soon.

I also started a marketing campaign to get BTSX/bitassets added to more exchanges and payment processors here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8384.0

Thanks for your support & let me know if you will support me in this delegate change to revert back to my old pay rate of 75%. If some people voice their support, then I will create a new delegate and request that everyone vote my old delegate account out. Thanks again guys, it's been a fun first month here in the Bitshares community and I am excited for more DACs to be released!
