Technical Support / Re: Block sync stuck at 2074788 on Mac wallet

Yes you are on a fork. Reindex doesn't work in this case.
You need to remove the chain folder and resync.

Try replace your checkpoints.json with the one in this post https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=15218.msg196858#msg196858 , then resync or reindex.

I did this, removed a chain server and reindexed and now I'm stuck at block 2073989. I seem to have regressed!

Fixed it. Resynced from wackou's chain server. Worked quite quickly.

Adding the checkpoints and re-indexing hasn't worked. If I am to start from scratch is it advisable to use a chain server? I was using one and ended up on a minority fork so...

General Discussion / Re: BitShares 0.6.2 Feedback

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I've just downloaded 0.6.2 for OSX. It can't seem to download past block 1138847. I remember having this issue before but it was due to the fact I didn't have the latest version. Any insights?

Not sure of the file structure on OSx however to get around this on Windows you can simply delete the "chain" folder located at /User/AppData/Roaming/BitShares.  This will cause the wallet to re-sync.  As a precaution when deleting anything, backup your wallet first!

I know how to do this on a mac and have a backup. Will try it now. Cheers.

Worked a treat thanks. Still downloading but has gotten past that dreaded block :)

General Discussion / Re: bitUSD marketcap
« on: October 30, 2014, 02:21:15 pm »
It has emerged Invictus is right in the firing line of a SEC investigation in crypto IPOs. People are putting their money in BitUSD in the expectation that this news will cause the price of BitsharesX to fall without crashing it completely.

Not only is this a lie (about the firing line of SEC investigation), but you have it all backwards.  Someone who would short hundreds of thousands of $ of bitUSD in existence is actually betting that BTSX will soon RISE in price, not fall.

Whoever shorted all of the bitUSD into existence, increasing the supply, is both a whale and is bullish on BTSX.

Time will tell it's not a lie. I wasn't referring to the shorting alluded to above. I was referring to people, like myself, who are shorting BTSX by buying BitUSD with a view to purchasing BTSX later. Going pretty well so far ;)

Where has this emerged?

Nowhere, he's making it up.

No. No I am not.

Yes, yes you are. Where do you see anything about Bitshares being in the "firing line"?

I agree this isn't great news, but for now I3 and Bitshares have not been targeted..

They're writing to a plethora of people behind crypto IPOs. It's common knowledge in crypto circles that BitsharesX is one of these. They advertised their token as a 'share' and call themselves a decentralised bank. You can be damn sure they're right at the front of the queue. Because it's decentralised and in the wild, it's not a major problem for the protocol long-term, but there may be consequences for some and short-term price instability.

Has anyone at Invictus taken a look at the mechanics of Safecoin? The blockchain approach is tried and tested whereas this is a totally new way. I find it hard to see how it can be transparent enough to maintain confidence in its incorruptibility.

General Discussion / Re: Is Anyone Still Holding Bitcoin?
« on: September 12, 2014, 10:26:24 am »
I'm torn on this subject. I am holding like 1/4 of my crypto in bitcoin and alts. Lately I've been thinking about cashing out to supplement my btsx, or maybe to invest a little extra in music.

I was also thinking about buying some PTS, and waiting until the next big snapshot announcement and selling off before the snapshot while the price is high.

but it's hard to leave all these alts, because I know from experience that a rising bitcoin tides carries all boats. All the main cryptos are going to bubble up the next big bitcoin snowball, and it's anybodies guess which will be the most profitable. Remember 25 dollar LTC?

It's also hard to leave bitcoin. I know it has a future, there's billions invested in it. There's an ETF in the works. The price is inevitably still going to rise.

so divided.

Stay divided (diversified). It's the smart play.

BTC, MSAFE, ETH, PTS, XAP & BitsharesX.

They all have a future. Why not own as many as possible? Choosing between coins is like picking between investing in Amazon or Altavista when the internet started. You're going to make money no matter what. Of course I have more money in ones that I believe have more potential but diversification is always healthy.
