Title: SMS Wallets
Post by: clout on June 09, 2014, 05:33:10 pm
Just started looking into Vericoin. Not sure where to get the best information on this project but there has been a lot of hype about many of its features including dynamic interest for pos and its sms wallet. I could care less about the dynamic interest feature as their pos model is less sophisticated than dpos but the potential for an sms wallet is a game changer. I'm curious if this can be implemented with bitshares

here is a demo of the sms wallet which is still in alpha testing:

Very interesting.

I also heard about https://www.37coins.com/ (https://www.37coins.com/) on a podcast, which enables bitcoin transactions by SMS.

There are many people with no internet connection and non-smartphones who could use this sort of thing.

I wonder whether or not this kind of functionality will be important for BitShares.

Edit:
By the way, clout, your first link to twitpic is being blocked by my Malwarebytes anti-malware: something about "download.adoboon.us"

This is STILL one of the most important topics I have seen come up.  If SMS can be used to trade, we are essentially opening this technology to the developing world--which is ripe and ready to use it.  This is how you get longterm value and carve a market niche...Look at Coke for christ's sake.  There is literally nowhere where you cannot find their advertisements in the "third world" countries.  When those countries become growth engines, and decentralization breaks the bonds that shackle them, we are going to see explosive adoption rates in tech like this.  I suppose it all comes down to who offers the service and markets it best to them.

The POS returns increase in relation to the total amount of people using the network.

The best way to implement this is to just request a signature over SMS, and charg a miniscule fee for processing the transaction.

i.e. have software on the phone generate the digital signature (I'm assuming most of these phones can still run some form of custom softwar, even if they have no Internet)

steps:

1. RECEIVE INVOICE TRANSACTION IN SMS TXT (INCLUDES TINY FEE FOR PROCESSOR)
2. COPY + PASTE INTO SOFTWARE
3. GENERATE SIGNATURE
4. COPY + PASTE BACK INTO SMS
5. PROCESSOR SUBMITS TO BITCOIN NETWORK
