You could start by posting every question you have here in this thread  :) you'll have plenty of people helping you out. What do you want to know about buying BitShares? How to do it? What services to use?

-link your bank account or wire some money
-buy some bitcoin
-create a wallet through bitshares.org
-register through the faucet or by requesting someone to send you some BTS (just ask here and I'll send you some)

Well, not all day, it was down while we were tied up in Monday design meeting (bitshares client got confused and needed to be re-indexed), but it's back up now.

I've been waiting for quite some time for my bitshares client to sync with the network... how long should I expect to wait for this to happen? I don't think my registered account will be, well, usable until that happens so I can't convert BTC to BTS. Thanks everyone.

There was just an announcement today that you can buy bitUSD on CCEDK with a wire transfer.  The best bang for your buck would be to open up an account there.  Wire them USD. buy bitUSD.  Then sell the bitUSD on the bitshares exchange for bts.  I think you would stand to make 5-10% on your money right away.

You could try localbitcoins.com for starters if you want to stay off the grid, i.e. avoid having to register with an exchange and connect/link your bank account info.

Otherwise just go with coinbase or something, lots of BTC exchanges out there.

i think i need to wait until the process is way more simplified guys, this is just way to confusing to get my head around it. Been to ccedk.com opened a account but am still unsure what to do there. Tried buying bitusd and a few other things and i just get more confused.  Really do appreciate everyones help but i think i should wait.

Have you deposited any money into CCEDK?  You need to wire them money and then you can purchase BTS or BitUSD

We accept credit card orders for BitShares at BlockTrades (visit http://blocktrades.us to see our base rates). CC orders include a 3%  additional fee to cover our additional expense. Currently we manually process CC orders, so you would need to call us at 540-808-1110 to place your order. Because we're still manually processing CC orders, we've currently set a minimum purchase of $500 for credit card orders.
