Are there any other reasons to doubt Bitshares? Perhaps the model isn't fully proven yet? It requires liquidity to properly prove itself and test but it might not get the liquidity to prove itself.

We are in a critical moment. How can we make Bitshares a useful tool for institutional investors so it can get beyond the innovator phase it's in now? Institutional investors can raise liquidity and make Bitshares useful for everyone else.  Retail might not be so important right now.

This video is something the Bitshares developers should watch.
It seems the best way to improve the value of Bitshares is to make it the most trusted.

This means it needs to be able to comply with all regulations. It also needs to be trustworthy from the point of view of the users. I suggest looking into implementing Trezor connect.
