The average worker summary might be something like:

I was working one day, starting to make progress on worker proposal X, but then I got fired the next day so I shifted my priorities and started working on something else, trying to earn a living you know?

Then a week later I got voted back in, so I thought, ok, well I'll give it another try and start working on this project again.

After two weeks passed I was really starting to make progress, but I was once again voted out, so I went back to looking for real work where I'm not hired and fired seemingly at random.

Then one day I noticed my worker was voted back in, but by then I was so tired of the uncertainty that I had just moved on to something else less stressful and uncertain.

Is this not a problem which needs to be addressed?  What developer wants to work in such conditions?

Would it not make more sense to be hired for a fixed term determined by the project scope?

I've sort of had a similar thought in regards to worker proposals. There needs to be a consistency.

Voters have to be voting to a certain degree of commitment the same as the commitment being given by the worker.

That said, there has to be greater consistent reporting by the worker as well.

I would like to see some kind of function in workers that had a reporting period required. Basically just a cmd that had to be executed with only a URL supplied to give a report on work and progress. If this isn't executed then within 48 hours the worker expiration is executes early and his worker ends. At that point he has to open a new worker and convince the shareholders to restart.

Generally if you don't show up to work for 2 days without any explanation or attempt to communicate, you would be replaced. In this instance I think a weekly, biweekly reporting period would be ideal and keep shareholders in the loop to know that progress is being made... if there is the commitment from the blockchain, then this level of reporting to maintain isn't unreasonable to be expected from the worker.

This however would require some additional work that would require a hardfork. I don't think we should hold back on making improvements to the worker proposal space in Bitshares.. it clearly can use improvements. If our tool for improvements to BTS is working well, it will help along all other improvements more efficiently.

Just my 2bts. :)

Yeah, I think having mutually reinforcing expectations of both shareholder / protocol, and worker would be really good.
As I attempted to illustrate above it's currently a pretty wishy-washy scenario.  I really like the suggestion of baking a solution right into the protocol.

I would support some kind of weekly reporting criteria.  I like the command idea, but in order to keep this from being gamed for the duration of the work period, perhaps this is an area for some limited oversight, override capacity from the committee.

Now that I got that out of my system, I think I'll buy some more BTS.   8)

All you naysayers are just pissing in the wind, while the others are building better ships.

It's been the same way for a long time now, a handful of visionary giants being dogged by a gaggle of myopic treasure hunters who should have never left shore, but simply invested in Apple stock and sucked down more diet coke while watching the 10 o'clock news and imagining themselves to be masters of their own destiny.

Ranting here about how you were victimized while backing a project on the bleeding edge of human imagination is just pathetic.

Some people build ships that cross oceans with their bare hands... and some passengers take masochistic delight in lamenting how their ship hasn't yet arrived in the promised land and that the ocean is vast and filled with terrifying mysteries, but the blame is never with them, always with some other hand controlling their fate, the captain, pirates, or the ocean itself.

Once upon a time the whole lot of you would be keel-hauled.  Nowadays you have the luxury of stinking up the decks with your own vomit.  Let's see where that gets you.

I can't say any more... Perhaps I've said too much already... you'll get there.  ;)  What season are you on Xeroc?

We need to form the League of Extraordinary Decentralized Applications... like a Hanseatic League for the 21st century.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanseatic_League

A community is the only real trust aggregator.  Multi-sig, apart from the power of social contract, is perhaps the best technology we have to safeguard against corruption.

I think what you're describing is a never before seen entity, part bank, part MAS, league, union, cooperative... on a blockchain.  It sounds a lot like BitShares 3.0  :P

For the record, there is this largely unused, but potentially very useful LinkedIn group, which I currently administer:
https://www.linkedin.com/groups/8267145

We are currently 59 members, strong but largely silent types, so far.  I'd be happy for any and all community participation in the group and consider it a BitShares community social media asset.

Also, consider that LinkedIn is a largely unexplored realm for reaching fresh eyes with the business potential of BitShares.

Example: Let's go search all posts on LinkedIn for any mentioning the word 'Blockchain' in the title.
Ok, There are 272 posts which fit this criteria in the last week.  Comment, share, post, repeat. :)

Also, who controls 'bitshares' on Instagram?  I'd like to contribute to our Instagram feed, and I would be good at creative bitshares / crypto related images and connecting with other people on Instagram.  Since my photo is already up there, maybe that qualifies me. ;)

General Discussion / Re: Mutual Aid Societies in the news

Great share Tuck!
Well produced video explains the topic very clearly... might have to borrow that format. ;)
I loved the historical element reminding us all that not so long ago there was a plurality of approaches for different communities which were more nuanced and responsive than the corporate healthcare monoculture we have today.

Great quote Jonathan!
And a great reminder.. Thanks.

Mutual aid societies could be the fabric which weaves society together... given the proper foundation for defining who's got that that 'steem, rep, cred, what have you... I wonder how we can do that...?  Then imagine a decentralized exchange providing a common ground between mutual aid societies... anybody know where we can find one?  Imagine if starting your own MAS was simple as launching an app, defining a mission, defining the parameters for achieving it, and adding members.  Just imagine... :)

Yes, my brain has been melting since April 1st...

this summer

Do I sense another exciting edition of "BitShares Summer Announcements" on the horizon? tbh those "Winter Storm Warnings" just weren't doing it for me...

 :P

I prefer we all go out and actively try to get people to join our little motley crew instead of asking when others will make it happen.

If anyone wants to know the "secret sauce" it literally comes down to us all doing as much as we can and trying to not lose focus of what WE can do to help (as opposed to getting upset about others' failures while they are throwing their hat in the ring.

Love you @btswildpig but seriously bro, has every single thing you have worked on worked out?  I assure you it hasn't.  Unfortunately for Stan, he is in the position where he has to show people the possibilities without  making promises because complete silence will be taken as "nothing is going on".  So I for one am very happy he comes on and gives us the updates of what could "potentially" be on the horizon.  I mean look how little the community knows about PLAY and MUSE these days...  And I assure you that silence has many in the community too concerned to buy in.  So which has been more valuable I guess is the question.  If silence was, then I'd imagine MUSE and PLAY would be higher substantially than BTS.

According to CFA guidelines which I have been reading lately , suggesting people what the price of a speculative/investment object will be by a person at a unique position constitutes potential misrepresentation .
You can predict price , he can't . There might be consequence someday if the space is more regulated .

schooled on regulation.  My oh my how it strangles the invigorating contest for freedom and innovation *sigh*.  I must certainly agree that these are potential issues...

We are all in unique positions.

General Discussion / Re: what`s Compumatrix/COMPUCEEDS?
« on: March 02, 2016, 10:10:47 pm »
lol!  :P I'm not involved with Compumatrix... and I don't know the first thing about them.  Though I did notice the name lovejoy floating around on one of their accounts and it made me raise an eyebrow, however that account has nothing to do with me.  Believe it or not there are quite a few Lovejoy's in the world.  One possibility to consider is Reverend Lovejoy from The Simpsons, there could be cartoons infiltrating the blockchain! ;)

All kidding aside, thanks for changing the title.  It's a tricky word, which in this context implies there's something to investigate... as in a crime, or some wrongdoing.  The word could also be used in a more light-hearted manner, such as: "Look!  A new sandwich shop opened up just down the street!  Let's investigate!"  But it's all a matter of context, and when "investigation" is used as part of a title, it looks pretty ominous.  I like the new version better.  It's less biased, more open ended.
