Title: wallet.bitshares.org should be syndicated to wallet.bitshares.p2p just in case..
Post by: kenCode on March 26, 2015, 06:28:41 pm
Can we get .p2p going? Who..?
At least getting it working, browser extensions and agreements with ICANN/IANA/IETF etc can come later.

Or, how about a TLD-less domain name system?
ie: if you type this into a web browser:
bts:kencode
by default, the browser would try to load my website via the Bitshares blockchain and maybe a Storj MetaDisk webhosting api.

I'm a bit worried that the web wallet could be shut down, either via an ISP proxy or a black hat.
If ISP's are told to clamp down on crypto and decentralization sites, all they have to do is filter you out. Click click done:

ie:
What do UK and Iran have in common? Both want to outlaw encrypted apps
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/01/12/iranuk_in_accord_as_pm_promises_to_block_encrypted_comms_after_election

There's no time like the present to get the decentralized dns running.
Our wallets are at stake now, not just the web itself.

There is no one that is reponsible for even starting .p2p, let alone finishing it--as far as I know.

If he could be funded, Zach Lym (http://www.indolering.com/) would probably be the best person to lead this.

I just saw this, looks promising  +5%

Russia (one of many countries to come) is going to start blocking crypto-related websites:
http://cointelegraph.com/news/113857/russias-bitcoin-ban-expected-in-august-expert-recommends-businesses-get-out

paging @indolering and @toast (but I think they're very busy with other projects)

Can we designate a "Domain Team"?
I'd love to see www.bitshares.dac and wallet.bitshares.p2p up and running before the end of 2015.

Possible? By whom?

You make a good point ken, i love the bitshares p2p idea.

I think we need to have one eye making sure the bitshares system can survive govt bans, regardless of whether thats in the US or elsewhere.

Yeah,  I guess there's like 4 or 5 countries that have banned crypto now and that number is expected to go up so unless we get in gear and get decentralized dns to the forefront, we could lose everything here.

Anyone? Anyone?

How about bringing the concern up with Bytemaster at the Mumble session?

thing is, how do we pay for it? should i setup a Poll?
what points should the Poll ask?
we need dedicated people for this, one or two Devs.

the technology already exists, just need to find a couple Devs who will take a 3% payrate (or Volunteer like me) to get it done for us.
all these neat market features are gonna be great, and i know 1.0 is on everyone's list cuz they want to get rich too, but man, I have a bad feeling about governments and "jade helm" and all the crap that's hitting the fan right now, we'd better get on DNS, and FAST.

at least a damn browser extension that communicates your btsid with the bts blockchain. data can be served up from the user's local webserver/node/bbb/raspi.
why do we even need TLD's to begin with?
if i type bts:kencode in my browser, the extension should try for a webpage first, an aboutme-style profile page second, the bts client next, and so on.
or.. bts:www.kencode (connect a www "child" account to a routeable webserver/node)

i would be more that happy to have a Hangout or skype about this. the mumble thing doesn't seem to work for me.

anyone? anyone? a Poll?

A poll has been created, which should end this thread:
