Title: membership ranking
Post by: barwizi on November 17, 2013, 12:02:16 pm
at this rate we'll all be hero members, keep in ind that when a noob comes here and sees a "hero" they trust and get scammed. also, scammer tags would be awesome.

Maybe something like what the Bitcointalk forum does? It's a function of how many times you've posted in a 2-week period and number of posts. Since this is new, we could make it 2-day period perhaps?

I'd just get rid of any rankings. they mean nothing.

mods are needed, don't get me wrong :D

But ranks are no indicator for trust. I treat a newbie just like a "hero member".

Good points.  Ranks are what they are, a small indication of relative contributions to the ecosystem.  People will make of them what they will.  Sock puppets don't usually make noble contributions for the greater good.   :)

There are many components to a person's reputation.  Contributions to the community are just one component.  It is not for us to decide the weighting different individuals may choose to place on each component.

At any rate, we committed to such recognition before people began contributing so we won't change it now.

I think it will work the way it is, I just read a thread where Ninelives was insulted by a newbie and that triggered thoughts of rankings and how the bitcointalk operates and, ya, how I could become a hero member here, and a newbie may or may not care about my rank and treat me badly or expect me to be more knowledgeable or expect that I am trusted here by the community, I learned in bitcointalk that ranking has nothing to do with who is who or what they know, here if someone would like to interact with someone else they are able to view what that person has been commenting on, how others respond to their post's etc, etc... they can even ask others, if I stopped to listen to a ranking bitcointalk member I would never have had ended up here, but my research suggested that that member had a personal interest in bitshares not working, and so my advice would be do your homework,  and play safe if you have doubts.

Now go post your list of trusted forum members in my post! http://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=195.0
