Our goal at Coinbase is to be the easiest place to buy and sell bitcoin. To that end, we’ve decided to give our referral program a serious shot in the arm. Coinbase users can now earn $25 of free bitcoin for every user they refer to Coinbase who buys $100 or more of bitcoin.
If you’re an online marketer (or just want to invite a few friends), we’d love to see what you can do with this.

Now that's quite an incentive program...

Well, depends on how you see it. Coinbase is good for a quick buck, while BitShares is better in the long run and seems better for businesses with a great user database I guess.

agreed! i don't plan on trying to make any money on the coinbase program, just happy to see any/all incentives to get more people into crypto. the more people who buy BTC will ultimately mean more capital flowing into BTS.

Good. Now they won't bitch about our referral program, as they'll be too busy insisting on how awesome this is for the Bitcoin glory. 8)

They could have been working on this way before us for sure, but it seems too much of a coincidence announcing it after our countless press releases regarding who is joining us and the mention of the referral program.
This only proves a company who got $75M in funding, has 2.400.000 users, 3.100.000 wallets, 40.000 merchants and 7.000 apps (according to this https://www.coinbase.com/about), and a volume of $ 4,529,640 as of time of this writing, sees our model as viable. Now think about it ;)

I doubt most of the coinbase people even have us on their radar.
We didnt invent the concept of referral programs. They are just using a time honored marketing strategy.
