Today we are going to implement Google AdSense into bitsharestalk.org.
These ads will help us cover server and maintenance cost.
We hope their presence will not cause any inconvenience.
-
We shouldn't be supporting them until they are accepting bitUSD! ;D
-
i recommend https://a-ads.com they pay per impression and pay out in btc
though i havent tested it for long
-
+5% Google adsense is way way way better to all ad networks.
-
considering adsense works only with clicking on them and many regular users on the forum it makes no sense at all!
how much do you expect to cover the costs? and what costs do you have?
-
@bittsapphire: you could prepare a proposal for bts just for running and maintaining the forum
-
maybe sell some banner ad space to community webistes and projects.
-
Agree with the worker proposal. maybe there's some room to pay mods a little bonus.
other than that, I'd disable my block script for bitmedia.io - at least they're a crypto related advertiser :)
-
Mind sending me a message with a break down on server expenses ?
Might be able to offer something better.
Regards

i'm not a friend of ads here on forum .. just said!
I would adivse to go with a worker proposal… my 2 cents

Has anyone here read the topic I posted regarding Bitteaser, it seems this is exactly what Bitteaser is offering that you are in fact looking for, and if you can make money in the same time, then why not instead of considering an expensive Google solution!!

Thanks for all the feedback guys!
This was definitely not an easy decision for us, we don't like ads and were looking for alternatives for quite some time. We spent over 5k USD on server/domain/ssl/anti-ddos/backups since we took over the forum (even though participation has fallen since the devs are working on their stuff, lurkers are plenty).
We pretty much need 500 USD/month to cover all or costs. We don't expect to make that with adsens, but it's at least something.

You could also ask for donations. Make a donation thread and bump it every now and then, and maybe give some updates how much you are spending and how much getting from ads and donations. Especially when the recurring payments are enabled on Bitshares, donors could use that instead of single donations.
